Besides teaching martial arts, they also place a focus on being a kind and respectful person; being supportive of others and bringing people up rather than putting them down. The star system has allowed us to carry over those same skills at home and motivates the kids to be their best selves.

It has been teaching me so much about how to defend myself so well. I love all the exercises we do like running and stretching. I love the new things I'm learning as a yellow belt. My favorite thing in Taekwondo is the exercise. Everything that is exercise I like. I love how the teachers are funny like Master Zach. I think the star system is great, like how you get all those trophies and medals when you not only do well in class, but do well at home too. Master Ron tells us what to do and what not to do and recovery and he's funny. I think the belt tests are great like how you break the board or the masters showing their moves and sparring. My favorite thing about the white belt is the Taekwondo Pledge. I also like Zachs son. He's funny and kind and I love the tiger in the window.

We came here from another school a little over a year ago, the difference has been night and day. You are pushed hard and expected to work but...and this is so important, they give you the tools you need and the confidence to do it. Instructors are up to date on current standards of the sport, they take the time to make sure your technique is good and that you are really mastering what you learn. They really take time with each student, will go out of their way to make sure you have what you need to do well, and that investment shows. It's a great space, and they've been awesome about observing safety protocols over this past pandemic season. You will be in great hands here!

He's even begun excelling at school. AND he thoroughly enjoys the sport! This place is run by a very personable family and you won't find black belts and instructors on ego trips. Every student is trained well and receives personal attention. The instructors make sure students test for their next belt only when ready and make sure students do not forget past knowledge and forms as they go up in rank. (Recently students have come to this school from another taekwondo school in the area where that was not required and they've had to do some relearning.) The instructors are caring and kind while still demanding attention to detail, focus, and excellence from the students. I have every confidence that my son will be fully prepared by the time he is ready for black belt testing, which is a big event that only happens twice a year in conjunction with other taekwondo schools around the state. In addition to regular classes, this school also has weapons classes, fitness classes, competition classes, and full contact sparring. As students move up in rank, there are also opportunities to assist with lower level classes, which is excellent for developing confidence and leadership skills. There are many opportunities to participate in seminars and competitions every year as well. The space is large, and also has locker rooms as well as comfy areas for family members to wait or watch (and free wifi!) The prices are reasonable and there are discounts for multiple family members. Recently my youngest daughter also started at this school and she is enjoying it and beginning to move up the ranks. This place has a diverse mix of students and caters to all ages. The people are warm, friendly, and accepting of everyone regardless of ability, race, gender, religion, orientation, etc. I highly recommend this school!

My son (6 years old) is in the Warrior Jr. Program (for 6-7 y.o.'s). He joined about 3 months ago and it has been everything we hoped for. We wanted him to learn how to protect himself and general self respect. We also were hoping it would help to instill life lessons/conversations that we have at home but, of course, helps to hear from someone other than mom and dad. This program does all of that and more! Teacher Randall has been an amazing addition to my sons life. He is the definition of a mentor/sensei. The way he connects with all the kids, is truly invested in helping them learn and grow, and seamlessly can run a class with all levels of focus from all different types of kids is amazing. The class assistant teachers are great too. It's cool to see them grow, as well. Dezmond is now a yellow belt (level 3). He's gotten more focused in class and at home. Also, he's gotten a lot better at speaking to his emotions through this. It's almost like the class is bringing him a lot of clarity on "life." Dezmond also gets to assistant teach the Little Warrior group - which he absolutely loves. I HIGHLY recommended Aim High.

Or you can do MTWTH if you're able. The teacher seems skilled in martial arts and is good at commanding respect from the kids. He should hire a receptionist though, because sometimes he can't teach the class (which is already short at 45 minutes) because he's hung up with talking to a parent who has a question or needs to pay for something. Before you sign up, be sure to ask what all these additional fees will be. It's not just $165 a month. Each belt test costs more money, there's more than one weapon to buy, sparring gear which is about $400, and a new blue uniform you're forced to get after the white one has only been worn a few months. And if you want to cancel, you have to notify three months in advance, and I guess still continue to pay for those three months whether your child attends or not. Another complaint I have is that it seems like the kids are advanced to the next belt levels too quickly. The tests to go to the next level are too easy. Some kids fail at something (like board breaking for instance) multiple times in a row, and are still allowed to get their next belt. This issue is likely true of not just this place, but all American martial arts places, which care more about protecting children's self-esteem than actually ensuring they have mastered the skills. In my opinion, it would be better if the kids had to stay at a belt level for a year each, rather than being rushed to black belt in 3-4 years just so the kids can brag "I'm a black belt!" without being able to win a fight. Two belt levels later, the kids have forgotten the forms and moves they learned two belt levels ago. Review of old moves would be nice. Does a black belt only know black belt moves? Do they still remember what they learned as a white belt, yellow belt, orange belt, etc.? The kids are also expected to memorize several words and phrases in Korean, which is difficult to do when the kids are all shouting out their possibly incorrect pronunciations at once. I think it would help them learn if the words were written out on a black/white board or displayed permanently on a wall poster, written both with the correct spelling and the phonetic spelling (because some of these words are not spelled the way they sound), so kids can see what they're saying instead of just imitating the kid next to them. Each individual kid should have to say the words so the teacher can hear their mistakes and correct them. It's impossible to hear who is saying what when they all shout at the same time.

The student-to-instructor ratio feels closer to 20-to-1, making it nearly impossible for kids who need extra help to get any meaningful attention. The classes move so fast that if your child doesn't immediately catch on, they're left behind. On the first day, there was very little instruction students were expected to just follow along. My child has been in the program for four months and still doesn't know the forms or the counting. For what we're paying, I expected actual teaching, guidance, and progress. Instead, it feels like they're focused on cramming more students into the class rather than making sure the children already enrolled are learning. If your child is not a quick learner, they can easily fall through the cracks. For $200 a month, it's simply not worth it.
