So wonderful to have such a great restaurant right in Chester, which has some great venues but nothing quite on this end of the fine dining spectrum.
The "room", as expected, is sunny and bright, tasteful decorated to reflect a beachy, ocean breeze vibe. The patio is enveloped by a row of umbrellas, making it an intimate space and extending its usability in Nova Scotia's unpredictable weather.
Prices are on the higher end for the area but reasonable for fine dining. That of course, assumes the food is worthy of the prices. And here the Sunroom definitely delivers!
We started by sharing the flatbread and carpaccio. Both nice servings and delicious. Our table had the halibut, scallops, and lobster pappardelle as mains. My halibut was beautifully presented, perfectly cooked fish with summer vegetables an a small patty of sweet rice. The lobster was also delicious but I think the star of the night was the scallops. Perfectly seared to a golden brown, I watch several orders go by, sadly making me regret my order just a little.
And a big thumps up for offering so many gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan options. It's nice to see restaurants thinking about those with restricted diets and in many cases it has no impact on the dish. I finished with the vegan pavlova, which was a tad over cooked but quite nice.
Service is very friendly and attentive, but not quite up to the level of knowledge and awareness of experienced 5-star wait staff. The industry is struggling to find people, the venue is new, and Chester isn't exactly urban-central, so I'll cut them some slack here. However, it will come, as will the five star ratings.
A must for Chester visitors looking for a fine dining experience. read more
