Yes it was a busy Sunday brunch time, but the next table were seated after us, got their food, ate it, paid and left before there was any sign of our food. Somebody clearly had lost our order, whether it was the server or the kitchen. The net result was an extremely negative experience for us. We won't be back. read more

We had the omelettes here over the weekend. I had mushroom and onions with Brie and orange raisin toast, my husband had mushroom,spinach and onion with cheddar and potato toast. Both the versions of omelets were very flavorful. The orange raisin toast was outstanding and went very well with their raspberry jam. Unfortunately, we didn't have good experience in Kiwi cafe. This place was disgusting in any possible way. The tables were dirty, the staff was unprofessional and didn't care much. The food was okay but not for the price we payed. Avocado toast was a big mistake. We payed 17 for something that didn't look fresh, had weird cheese in it and avocado that was almost all brown. I had to go to the register to order a tea while our waiter was standing a few steps away chatting with someone who was making my tea not paying any attention on me or what's happening. We found this little gem after catching sunrise at Peggy's Cove. The food was excellent. I had an omelet with spinach, mushrooms, and goat cheese. From the warm and inviting staff to the local patrons who frequent the establishment, you will fall in love, just as we have, with this place. The Kiwi has a charming atmosphere with consistently delicious food. The staff is attentive and are always happy to accommodate. They also have a wonderful pantry for grab and go fresh and frozen meals, fresh baked goods, as well as house wares, supporting local artisans. Some of my favourites include the fish cakes, eggs benny, and if you are lucky enough to be there on a day they are featuring Huevos rancheros, you will not be disappointed! What a great little cafe/restaurant! We stopped here after working at a wedding in Oak Island, we both ordered a wrap and coffee and the service, food and price was perfect! I had the Thai wrap which was the right amount of spicy, also the salad served with it was also delish. A bit plain with nothing on it but the dressing was enough! Let, me tell u a story....... My close friend had a birthday. We drove from the city, to the Kiwi Cafe in Chester which was recommended to us. Was there about 9am on Sunday morning and yes it was busy. That was ok...for a time ..... There were pple in back and infront of us, who were waiting to be seated. No employees acknowledged us. Finally, after 20min of waiting, the elderly couple near the door asked us to seat with them. And we did. Couple was finished their meal, and I had to tap, server on the shoulder to ask for a cup of coffee. The couple left and my friend and I were still sitting there an hour, after we ordered. Waiting for our birthday brunch. People coming and going, eating and leaving . My friend ask the server how much longer brunch would be. And I quote she said, DONT U SEE HOW BUSY I AM!!!! Though I was going to blow a gasket!!!! My friend went outside I stood inline 20min to pay for 2 coffee. The server went outside, grabbed my friend and said "ARENT U GOING TO HAVE UR BRUNCH?" I reluctantly agreed to sit, we both had 3 bites of French Toast and it was cold, the barry compote, was like strawberry jam. Then, the server asked if we wanted the rest boxed up???? No apologies or nothing for our wait. We were there at 9am, now its 1140am. Payed the bill and left very disappointed. I had never ever went to an establishment and be treated with such ignorance!!!!! To the STAFF and OWNER of the THE KIWI CAFE: CUSTOMER SERVICE 101! It doesn't seem like a great set up in terms of allowing people to distance for COVID, so I empathize that it must be a bit of a stressful working environment right now, but it was still really disappointing to be treated unkindly. This was my first and last visit to kiwi cafe. I ordered the Greek chicken wrap and had asked for a side salad. The individual on the phone asked whether I meant the house salad and I said yes I was expecting a wrap with chunks of chicken, maybe seasoned with some Greek marinade or spices. The wrap instead contained thinly sliced deli chicken, similar to lunch meat. The salad consisted of mainly pieces of cut up romaine lettuce. That was it. Not sure how that can constitute a salad. I wrote the business on Facebook and was simply told that their menu states that sandwiches are accompanied by a mixed greens salad. I would be embarrassed to serve that and call it a salad/side The only satisfying part of the meal Was the salad dressing. The Kiwi Cafe is located in downtown Chester. It is a small restaurant with great appeal. When you walk in you will be taken back with the bright colors of green and orange and blue. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. It is a great place to sit and have a coffee with one of the best brownies we have tasted. We like to hot chocolate as well. All the food is homemade with daily specials. There is an outside patio for the summer. Take a gander at the board where you will find different events they hold at the restaurant. Came here for a late lunch and were the only people there. Not usually a good sign, but it was mid-afternoon so maybe we just missed the lunch crowd. I ordered the lobster roll. Lots of delicious lobster, but a bit pricy for what it is. The decor is great, but we had a strange experience with our server. When delivering the bills she said "you guys probably think of from New Zealand right?", completely unprompted. I replied that no, we did not in fact think she was from NZ, then she started going on about how she's from South Africa and how it's so much better than Chester. She made it clear she was not a fan of Chester. For a place that relies on tourism to keep its doors open, I don't know why they would have a person working there who trashes the very place the cafe is located in. And since she went of the way to mention it herself (we didn't ask or quite frankly care where she was from) she probably tells this to a lot of customers. Very odd. We also had a lemon square and a coconut brownie. The food and dessert were so good, we will definitely do the drive again. This is a south shore gem! First off, it's in a really cool town, Chester, and the community is great. The cafe has a very warm vibe, with friendly staff. Next, they really know their coffee. I ordered a macchiato (which I was introduced to by an Italian waiter at la Gondola in Halifax). I hate to sound like a coffee snob, but the Kiwi make it just the way I like--a big surprise. I spend a bit of time in Chester, but until last weekend I'd never had a chance to check out The Kiwi Cafe. And was I ever missing out! I had two delightful experiences. On Saturday I sampled a few baked goods, and their squares and brownies were to die for. But the Sunday brunch was what made me a true fan. My pear, arugula and brie sandwich was absolutely to die for. The orange raising bread it was on was fresh and delicious, and it had just the right amount of pear and brie to fill me up without falling apart and being impossible to eat. The menu offered a lot of tasty-sounding options, and there's a lovely outdoor eating area that I can't wait to enjoy. Inside, the atmosphere is bright, cheery and kid-friendly. Based on all the good reviews in Yelp, we stopped here for lunch on a sunny afternoon in Chester. My friends ordered the fish cakes, the veggie burger and the grilled veggie panini. All the meals came with balsamic vinagrette leaf salad on the side. I ordered the pear, brie and arugula grilled sandwich on orange raisin bread, and honestly, it was to die for. It was, seriously, the best sandwich I have eaten in a restaurant, in a long, long time! I really liked the Kiwi Cafe, a cheerful spot with brightly painted walls. We were on vacation from the States and stopped off at the Kiwi for lunch... or so we thought. We waited and watched as locals were greeted and waited on and brought waters within a minute of arriving. Our family, was never greeted, waited on, asked for drinks or anything. After 15/min of waiting and looking around, we voted with our wallets and left... having the best meal of our trip at the tavern across the street (to which the service was amazing). With friendly service, great food, and a really nice atmosphere, it would be a mistake not to visit when in the area. I got myself a breakfast sandwich, with home-fries and a mango smoothie. (All day breakfast, what up!) The sandwich was on an english muffin with bacon, egg, and cheddar. The egg was cooked perfect, the bacon was real and crispy, and the cheddar was delightfully melted. Home fries were also wonderful, lightly seasoned. Mango smoothie was tasty as well! A very happy breakfast for me. They also have a small grocery section selling jams and other such items that I unfortunately, did not take the time to check out! However, there will always be next time. My wife and I stopped here on our bike tour of the South Shore. The food was excellent, and although there was a mix-up with our order, it was handled very well. ((Atmosphere)): Fun café feel. When we were there, there was a large sunny patio, filled with the well-to-do locals. ((Food)): The Quesadilla I had was superb, filled with a generous portion of of creamy shrimp, bits of fruits and peppers, with subtle Mexican seasoning. I'd definitely recommend the brownies as well. The Americano I had certainly passed. ((Service)): There was some sort of a mix-up, and we ended up waiting a long time for our food; however, the owner immediately came over to us (even though they were extremely busy) and told us that our lunch was on the house. After the meal we got coffee and brownies, and offered to pay for those at least - but they insisted on giving those to us for free as well. Fantastic brunch spot! I loved the terrace and the food. The service was initially quite poor with one of the waitresses seating us on two rocky, dirty tables though there were clearly other unused tables that would have been better for us and was quite rude whenever we spoke to her. We ended up moving ourselves and had a much more pleasant waitress taking care of us. I ordered the Lobster Eggs Benedict which was phenomenal. Fresh, good mix of flavours and a large portion of home fries. Their iced coffee is also amazing. They also have bakery fresh bread.. Yum! Restaurant is cute. The food on the menu sounded good. However I wouldn't know what it tasted like considering we sat there for 20 minutes without ANY one coming to get our food order. The serving staff is severely understaffed and you can't catch their eye to save your life. The sign on the door said take a seat indicating you order at the table. But instead hoards of people keep streaming in and ordering from the register. They should make it a little more clear. read more

If I could give it zero stars I would. They have the worst wait staff I have ever experienced. They say to seat yourself and they will come to your table. The only issue is they never come to your table! We even hunted down a waitress and she wouldn't even help us. She told us to go sit back down! So rude.
