We were greeted promptly at the door by the owner, Mr. Wing and told that they were slightly backed up and could we have a seat in the small waiting area - sure no problem. Well it turned out that this was just their ploy for trying to increase the sale of alcohol as the restaurant was only half full. Three different people stopped by during our short wait asking if we'd like to order a drink. We were shown to our table, a nice table in the corner. The restaurant offers lots of privacy as there are booth-like dividers between many of the tables. All the employees were Chinese and the wait staff all wear white gloves. The service itself was crisp, formal and efficient. They have a vast menu and we sampled 3 different items. Alas, I wish the quality and taste of the food measured up to the service. For my taste the food was bland and rather uninteresting. Not at all what we had expected when we were told this was the "best Cantonese Cuisine in Manchester."

Cant remember exactly what but they were both fantastic. I had salt and pepper ribs, and i have never seen ribs like them before! they were massive, very weel seasoned and melt in your mouth. For main course we have sweet and sour chicken, and prawn in ok sauce. both with rice and both were fantastic. We were seated in a corner with decent views of the goings-on, and set about conquering the menu - the group was almost military in its tactics, dividing the menu's sections between ourselves to make sure we got to sample lots of different dishes. Three of us ordered a bottle of their house red (a Merlot) which was actually quite good - a bit on the peppery side but I really liked it. The food started to arrive after a bit of a wait, but we'd had some prawn crackers to whet our appetite. The sashimi platter that I ordered for us all to share was a bit disappointing (usual price £28 for 15 pieces). I can't think of anything else that was particularly underwhelming; the combo of orders was all rather good - but the highlights for me were the Taiwanese buns which you could have with shredded duck or pork belly (we ordered both). These were absolutely heavenly, for want of a better word. Service was friendly, if not a tad haphazard at times; it's definitely somewhere to consider for date night. That being said, you'd have to be happy 'flashing the cash' as I don't think it's worth the full price they'd ordinarily be charging diners.

The sweet potato fries were sensational and I am looking forward to my next visit for those alone. The menu in general is very appealing with lots of choice, from pizza (including build your own) and burgers to a whole host of interesting specials, including sea bass curry and falafel with ratatouille. I had a quarter roasted chicken which was very well cooked. I could have done with a bit more of the delicious tomato sauce but overall it was very good. Walked toward the desk to announce ourselves and was surprised to see 1. no view of the river (or even windows that I could see) and 2. the restaurant was virtually empty! Why all the fuss of me striving for two days to get a table?? Ridiculous! It was still half empty when we left. The next disappointment was the menu. Not only very limited - but if (like Mrs G) you are allergic to mushrooms, blue cheese and shrimp etc., plus trying stay low in salt there is VERY little to choose from. we went ahead with a steak for me and a salad from Mrs G from the bar menu. We ordered some "mixed breads" which unfortunately the server touched with his fingers right in front of us - no thank you! I should have learned my lesson before - my own black peppercorn sauce is wwaaayyy better than anything any ordinary chef can manage and this was again the case. Not bad but nothing special at all. We got seated next to the window and I was happy about that as got a nice view. I had a haddock fish cake with sweet potato for starter it was so tasty. For main.I orders chicken supreme with couscous tomato and feta it was delicious I enjoyed every bit I would definitely reccomend. I had a peach belini that was lovely too. Overall I would definitely reccomend this resturant for a special occasion. The staff were lovely and everything was served to a high standard.
