My kid had a very bad incident at this daycare while teachers were distracted changing another child's diaper on a changing table. During this time, my child was unsupervised. The director Afton later called me and fabricated an incident report. Thankfully, a teacher reached out to me privately after hearing the false story and told me what actually happened, confirming the director's account was untrue. This facility is extremely understaffed, poorly supervised, and dishonest when serious incidents occur. While some of the teachers genuinely care, the director is a liar, and that alone makes this place unsafe. If you want your child in a safe, well-supervised environment, rethink enrolling them here

Ms. Tiffany is a principal that truly cares for every child that walks in the door and knows how to run a school for the well-being of children. She is frequently in the various classrooms helping where she can, setting a visible standard for all teachers and can aid in tantrum/boundaries like a pro. It is obvious she is knowledgeable in childhood development and knows that doing HER job of supporting the teachers, will allow them to be the best they can be for our kids. This then leads me to say that the teachers at this school are also outstanding! If you want your toddler to be able learn age-appropriate boundaries but still have an environment where adults show grace, teach coping skills and allow kids to explore, then this is your daycare. My daughter comes home covered in dirt and paint but has also learned to wait her turn, say "excuse me" to adults, share with peers and now has the social emotional skills to calm herself down in a tantrum. I owe it all to the LOVE, the PATIENCE and the EVIDENCE-BASED educational skills this school enforces!

The teachers call parents monthly to address any concerns or questions we may have. Each month, photos of my child are uploaded to a private Snapfish account. They're cloth diaper friendly! Your child brings their own lunch each day, or you can opt to order lunch (menus and order forms are available from the school). Right now, my sons options for ordering lunch are Mac and Cheese from McAlisters Deli one on day, or Grilled Chicken from Applebee's on another day. Refrigerators and microwaves are available in the classroom, so my son generally takes leftovers for lunch. Also, the school is completely nut free! Okay...but what about academics?? Each week has a theme. Let's take the week they learned about dental health as an example. It included making tooth artwork, reading books about teeth, a visit from a dentist and learning the Spanish word for teeth (diente). In the short time my son has been in attendance, he's made so much progress. Their program truly is Kindergarten Prep. I can't wait until my younger son begins school here in the fall.

Inside of the Play Garden they have all sorts of cool things for the kiddies to do; from playing on slides, playing with toys, to crafts such as painting. The staff here is awesome. They were very nice and I salute them for their patience with 50 screaming kids running around. We look forward to using Play Garden again soon when we need that last minute sitter.

Lana liked it so much she still introduces herself as a "dolphin"! that was her class. The school is big, well equipped inside and outdoors, full of extra curriculum classes (you pay extra about $35-$45 per month) and overall the atmosphere is buzzing with a positive energy. Lana had young teachers. All very knowledgeable and great with kids. One downside they changed 3 times while she was there. You get reports every day. You can see the kids art creations posted on the walls next to each class. The school has lots of events and field trips (one every other week). One big plus for me was the fact the school cooks fresh, quality and nutritious food every day. They will accommodate health special needs. There was great deal of involvement from parents who are expected and highly encouraged to participate. We were meeting at least once a month (great chance to get out too and make new connections) to discuss activities for kids and ways to help the teachers. About tuition payments: The school is relatively expensive for South Carolina, close to $900 a month for 4-6 years old, but is well worth it. DI is one of the few NAEYC accredited schools in the state. The tuition needs to be paid 2 weeks in advance every other week. When you enroll you're also asked to pay for the last 2 weeks of the calendar year (i.e. you pay this year for June 2009) Bottom line Daniel Island Academy is an excellent pre-shool choice.
