I can't recommend Sunshine House Oakley enough. My son has been there since he was 2.5 and is now graduating into kindergarten, and throughout that entire time, the staff has consistently shown him so much love, patience, and care. They truly take the time to understand each child individually and support them through every stage--from the toddler years through becoming more expressive and independent. As a parent, I've always felt completely confident and at ease leaving my child in their care, which means everything. The kindness and support they've shown not only to my son but also to me as a parent has made a lasting impact. Sad that Sunshine House Oakley didn't work out for our son who is 2.5 years old and has a speech delay. I asked Ms. Meg if it was okay if I stayed there for a little bit to give my child some time to get comfortable around his surrounding. My son has a speech delay and can only point to stuff or use a little bit of sign language. Ms. Meg said no because she would have to let other parents do the same thing, which is understandable. The first day my son was dropped off, he was okay when I left after I signed in on the iPad and around 3 hours later, I get a phone call from Ms. Meg telling me that my son scratched and pinched her and he wanted to leave by going through the safety gate and he was expressing emotional distress. I came back to sunshine house and my son was outside with Ms. Erika eating cheerios. It was 80 degrees outside and I gave my son water and he drank the whole (small) bottle. The next day, I apologized to Ms.Meg for my son's behavior and was hoping for the best with my son being there but there was no improvement and he cried when I left. Around 1 hour later, I get a phone call again and had to pick him up. Ms. Meg was very honest and nice about letting me know that sunshine house might not be a good fit for my child because he wasn't ready for that type of environment and recommended I go to smaller daycare with less children in there. I appreciated Ms. Meg's advice. Everybody at Sunshine house was friendly and I saw that teachers were teaching children valuable learning lessons with their ABC's and 1-2-3's. Overall I think this is a wonderful school to put your child in but I wouldn't put them in there just yet until they are able to communicate and can follow simple rules. Sunshine house also has small toilet for potty trained kiddos and if they aren't potty trained yet; it's an additional $12. On my tour before enrolling in to sunshine house, I did receive a welcome gift which consist of a toddler sunshine house t-shirt, reuseable water bottle, and a heat/ice penguin pack. It was so nice of them to gift these items to parents who toured with them. It was $100 for registration fees, need a copy of child birth certificate, immunization records, and also a physician report form which can be turned in 30 days after registration forms are completed. And a small picture of your child for their cubby. They are open from 6:30am-6:00pm Drop off is usually 7:30am because circle time starts at 9. They do offer breakfast for kiddos in the morning. They bake everything in house. Pickup is usually 5:30, after 6pm there are additional fees. They also do half days, full days, and 4 hours of daycare/school. read more

I recently switched from another preschool in Brentwood to Sunshine House, Oakley initially because it was closer to home now that my work schedule had changed... and now I wish I had done it sooner! My son absolutely loves it there. We have never had a day of crying at drop-off, which never happened at our last preschool... (and that breaks my mama heart to think about now). He really enjoys all the teachers and is doing really well there. The staff is some of the most friendly/kind people I've ever met! Everyone greets you with a smile and big hello when you walk in, which was a far cry from our last preschool... they all seem to really enjoy their job, and that shows 1000%! The center is clean and smells nice, I love all the different learning stations - and the backyard is amazing! My son loves to play outside with all the toys, swings, sandbox, ride-along cars... it's just a preschooler's dream out there! The staff is always willing to answer my questions and give me updates about my sons day. They have fun activities, like family breakfast and PJ day! And they even offer "Pizza Nights" where you can sign up to bring your child from 6pm-9pm on a Friday night AND bring their sibling/s! I have a 6 year old son, and he enjoys going to pizza night as well and then Mom & Dad get to go out to dinner! ;) It's really been a great experience sending my son here...I could not be more happy with our decision! read more

We left our previous daycare due to relocating to Oakley and needed a new daycare. Our daughter was doing very well in her previous daycare and we were trying to find something similar close to home. When we found sunshine House we were hopeful that we found a daycare/preschool program that would allow our child to continue to flourish. After spending some time at this daycare center, I am a bit confused by the five star ratings. Most of them are over a few years ago and I am thinking staff changes due to the pandemic may have affected this location? Despite my daughter expressing excitement to see her teachers and seemed to enjoy her time at Sunshine House, she would often come home with bruises and cuts. These bruises and cuts were not observed by any of the staff "present." My daughter eventually told me a friend was hitting her at daycare. I brought this to the attention of the staff several times. I also complained that communication is crummy with parents and that it is concerning to find bruises or cuts with no explanation. Kiddos are going to get bumps and scrapes but it's nice to know why your kiddo has a bruise that spans their entire forehead. After complaining three times we started to get a few "ouchie reports." We eventually had to pull my daughter from the program. We were paying $410 per week for full time to discover our daughter was not even enrolled in the preschool program only daycare services. They charge $100 to apply sunscreen from May to October and you cannot provide your own. If you do not pay this fee they will not apply sunblock. They charge $12/day to change diapers. You can provide your own but they will still charge $12/day. For such an expensive tuition it would be appreciated to know why your child is coming home with bruises and that if the children are playing too rough with each other it is addressed. There were also a few times I found my daughter eating plastic confetti. I brought it to the attention of the staff and they brushed it off saying to my daughter, "don't eat plastic, it's yucky." They advised me that they cannot monitor children playing at their sensory bins. When I asked my daughter why she was eating plastic, she explained she was hungry. Apparently, they would ask the children if they wanted to eat a snack while they are playing rather than directing them to snack/water breaks. When having the conversation as to why we needed to terminate services I was advised that my daughters bruises and cuts were due to her "not being ready for daycare." She has been in daycare since she was 11 months old and every ouchie was documented and bullying immediately addressed. We were disappointed we needed to terminate services as my daughter did enjoy playing with the toys provided and using the swing set in the backyard but could no longer send my daughter to place where her peers were causing injury with what seemed to be little to no supervision. read more

If you are looking for preschool you want to check out sunshine house! I cannot speak highly enough of Sunshine House. We have been with them since December 2019. First at a Brentwood location and here in Oakley since July 2023. The teachers are great! Very communicative, friendly, and caring. Almost daily I receive photos of my son playing and having a great time. He is very into art and his teacher encourage him to do what he enjoys. My youngest son was a COVID baby so he didn't get a ton of socialization outside of the house as a toddler so he was really shy. Since starting sunshine house he has come out of his shell. 28+ years ago I started my educational journey at Sunshine House in Oakley. I have the fondest memories of going to pre-school there, and still remember so many songs, activities and fun days we celebrated together. When I had children of my own, and moved back to the Bay Area, the ONLY option for me when considering pre-schools for my son was Sunshine House. We currently live in Brentwood and drive over to Oakley 3x a week just for my son to experience this school and its great teacher team. Our favorite things currently that we look forward to every week: texted photo updates, weekly emails and music class! The teachers send picture updates every week via text so my partner and I get insights into our son's activities and what activities he's having fun with this week. Definitely comes in handy when he comes home and we ask, "what did you do at school today?" --We can avoid the "Uh, I don't remember..." conversation altogether! Sunshine House sends out weekly curriculums so we can prepare our son for next week's activities and points of learning. And when he comes home raving about a book they read at Circle Time, I can easily find the title of the book they read listed in the curriculum and we can pick the book up at the library to read again at home. And while the school does incorporate a lot of music, art and movement into their regular curriculum, they do often provide opportunities for EXTRA art, music, and physical activities for you to sign your children up for. Our son looks forward to Thursdays, especially, for music class! The school is very clean, they provide healthy breakfast & snacks, they conduct emotional & educational milestone check-ins, and we can confidently say our son is set up for success for Kindergarten next Fall! (Even though I'm personally not mentally prepared for that...) We can't wait for our daughter to be ready to start at Sunshine House with our son next year! 100/10 We do recommend Sunshine House Oakley for others. I would highly recommend Sunshine House Oakley!! My son started going when we was about 3.5 years old and is now 5 years old. He absolutely loves going to school everyday. All the teachers are amazing and have seen my son grow tremendously because of them. With a crazy 2020 Covid year we were going to have to say goodbye, but sunshine was right there to help us still feel welcome with the distance learning that has happened. I'm so happy that my son is still able to attend and have some-what of a normal school day. What I like is they really care about the well-being of the children. I love that if their happens to be an accident/injury they always call and let you know that they are okay or what they are doing to help them feel better. Or will send home little notes about the day they had. And when it comes to assessments they will always let you know what your child needs to work on! Our son went to Sunshine House in Oakley about 6 or 7 years ago and we absolutely loved it there. When it was time for me to go back to work and have our daughter attend preschool/daycare we immediately thought of Sunshine House. She has some speech/comprehension delays, so we wanted to make sure she was in the best place possible. We toured about 3 other daycares and knew for sure that Sunshine House was the best place for her. The teachers are so friendly, and the environment is clean and organized. She's happy everytime I drop her off and pick her. They communicate very well through phone calls and texting, which is nice while I'm at work. My almost 4 year old son has been going to Sunshine House Oakley since June. He loves it here and has learned so much. Randomly he breaks out in song and dance or recognizes letters or numbers I had no idea he even knew yet. He loves his friends and we all love the teachers. My son has food allergies and we worried about him being around foods he can't have. The teachers make sure he and others with allergies are not at risk and the processes they have in place for those with allergies put us at ease. The school is so organized, clean, and has a great staff of teachers that are loving and caring. The school does an exceptional job of keeping parents informed and involved. I was already very impressed with how clean Sunshine House Oakley was before the pandemic, but the protocols and steps they have taken during the pandemic have been amazing! You would think that with a large number of little ones it would be nearly impossible to make the kids social distance, keep sanitary, and follow COVID19 protocols but i've been proven wrong. The staff have set up a great routine to keep the kids as safe and clean as possible and make drop off safe and clean as well! Sunshine House is the type of preschool you only think you can hope to find. The staff are dedicated and loving. They take the time to get to know the whole family right off the bat when you set up a tour. My family and I could not be more impressed with the growth that we have seen in our son. He started off right when he turned two. He knew the basics but Sunshine House has him reciting the alphabet, counting to 40, recognizing letters, numbers, colors, and shapes. He sings songs, has made friends, and has learned many other new skills in the 9 short months he has been there. As as a mother and an educator I value safety, security, and stability for son. I am a very picky mom who wouldn't feel comfortable leaving my son with just anyone. I can truly say that I can't imagine my son in safer hands. Those may seem like just kind words but my son was recently diagnosed with juvenile diabetes and I have to place a huge amount faith and trust in someone to leave him with them and more so now. I can only say that my son will never be in a more loving, safe, or supportive preschool than at Sunshine House Oakley. Check out this preschool, you will not regret it. read more

My daughter went to Sunshine House in Brentwood and I couldn't wait until my son turned two so he could be enrolled. He has been at the Oakley location for almost two years now and I can't say enough great things about the school. The teachers are very caring, the activities are fun, and they are always having special events for the families. We were really lucky to have my daughter in an excellent school prior to Sunshine House, but the one thing I felt it lacked was a certain responsiveness to the parents. Absolutely hands down the best preschool in the area! Our time at Sunshine House is coming to an end, and we are sad to leave. We cannot be more grateful for knowledgeable, patient and caring teachers. Love to see the photo updates on Facebook. Our son loved it here from day 1 and learned so much! He is very well prepared for kindergarten. The staff at this school takes children's health seriously. They always clean and sanitize, especially during the cold season. It's the only place I visited that has a full size sanitizer for toys and props. If there's ever a case of infectious disease, they inform parents immediately. They make you feel comfortable leaving your kids with them! We even get notes home sometimes from some teachers commenting about how sweat of a daughter we have, and our daughter loves when she gets stuff in the mail unexpectedly from them. My daughter currently attends Sunshine House in Oakley. She started there (full-time) at 2.5 and will be going into kindergarten this year. We will be sad to leave. What I love most about Sunshine House is that everything feels very safe and the school is immaculate. The teachers communicate constantly through their headsets and are on top of everything that is going on with every single child. They are all on the same page and I really appreciate that. Also, there is not a huge amount of turnaround, the majority of teachers have been there for a really long time which says a lot about the school in general. I would be extremely uncomfortable with my daughter having to get to know and deal with new teachers constantly. My daughter has learned so much, especially this last year. I continue to be surprised and impressed by everything she understands and can explain to me. The teachers are very intuitive to the kids needs and often times will be found holding hands with several kids, or giving an extra cuddle just because they noticed it was needed. If I had any issues or concerns (nothing serious) I felt like they were taken seriously and addressed appropriately and professionally. As a parent this is very comforting to me. Our favorite things are the many activities they do that involve family. I work full-time so it can be hard trying to make it to everything, but I love the family involvement and knowing that something fun is always coming up! We love receiving notes from the teachers describing her day. And there is nothing better than when you get a text message from Sunshine House with an adorable picture of your child having fun! I have no doubt that my daughter will enter kindergarten prepared and confident because of her experience here at Sunshine House Oakley. read more

Since my last review of 8/27/14, I thought I would update and let all those who are looking for a fun, safe, and learning experience for their child. SUNSHINE HOUSE is AMAZING!!!!! Through the months that my son has attended, we have noticed how much he has learned and grown. He really enjoys going to school and is excited everyday to learn something different. He truly does love it and it makes me happy that he is happy! Sunshine House teachers are so friendly, sweet, professional, and beyond amazing! They truly do care for each child and are always on top of things making sure all are taken care of and that the facility is safe and clean at all times. That said, I'd like to take a moment to thank the Sunshine House for continuing to deliver experiences that exceed our expectations with my grandson, Logan. From the caregivers to the administrators, everyone involved in the Sunshine House is helping shape his childhood experience. There are plenty of facilities with nice teachers and stimulating toys. Unfortunately, these things are only 2 elements that make a center high quality. To me, working with my grandson is a privilidge. It is an opportunity to make a difference in his life. My daughter has attended Sunshine House for over 3 1/2 years. It is her second home. In addition to being a great learning environment, my daughter feels comfortable and loves attending Sunshine House. My daughter loves Sunshine House so much that there have been many times she would prefer I leave her a bit longer there - eventually, she agrees to come home only after I promise her that she will be back. The teachers are all loving, friendly, and patient. My daughter always talks about her teachers. Each teacher brings something special to Sunshine House. Ms. Kathy is always welcoming in the morning when I drop my daughter off. Ms. Connie is always full of energy and always has a smile on her face. Ms. Jackie is patient and has a warm maternal side to her. Ms. Angela stays on top of things when it comes to keeping my daughter safe. Ms. Maria is very hard working and stays focused on my daughter's needs. Ms. Kelly is very attentive and listens to my daughter's needs, wants, and to every story my daughter has to tell her. Every teacher is excellent. My daughter is always eager to tell us about her day at Sunshine House. One of the activities she enjoys the most is circle time. She is always singing and dancing at home. She has lots of friends at Sunshine House, some a little younger and some a little older than her. She loves to help out her younger peers. My daughter has recently entered Sunshine House's Pre-K Program and she has learned so much in such a short while. She recently showed me how she learned to cut out shapes. At Sunshine House, your child will never be bored. They have a schedule they follow so you know what your child is learning everyday. They provide a variety of activities throughout the day. The best part about Sunshine House is the feeling of ease and comfort by simply knowing my child is safe.
