Let me just put it out there - Kate's an excellent photographer and we loved her. So now that we got the most important stuff out in the open, let me add a little more meat to this review. My better half had found Kate on Instagram and liked what she saw. She showed me and I genuinely liked some of the pictures. The pictures were...better. Had more of a real feel to them. Not that "here we are, oh so happy, rainbows and sparkles" type stuff you see almost everywhere. It seemed like *gasp* folks were actually having a good time. So she convinced me to line up a date for a one hour shoot, to look semi-presentable (coastal mountain town chic?) and then work got in the way. Kate was contacted and immediately rolled with the punches. We rescheduled and on the second try we met her. Kate is definitely someone who is engaging, sincere, makes you feel comfortable, knows how to capture the candid and staged moments, and has an innate understanding of how the whole session needs to flow. At one point our baby son decided he'd had enough of all the action and needed to be breastfed. Right then and there. So we plopped down, freed the nipple, and he was fed. Kate took some cool pics of that too and you know what? It was so natural and sweet...we'll cherish that moment for life. Time flew by and within a little over an hour we were done. She'd managed to take wonderful pictures of us as a family, including our four-legged beast, and individual ones of us each with our son. To say that I'm a tough one to convince to spend free time getting pictures taken would likely be an understatement but I'm now firmly onboard with Kate's methodology and would do it again. We loved working with Kate! I hired her to do an in-home shoot to commemorate my daughter's first birthday. I had a few ideas of what I wanted her to capture (ie blowing out candles, etc which she did), but she also has a great eye and wasn't afraid to experiment on the fly. At one point, we had a baby meltdown but this didn't phase Kate -- which helped with my anxiety to create the "perfect" family moment. Some of my favorite photos are the ones were we are just being "us" where my daughter is in her diaper (glad I bought those expensive outfits, ha!) and we're enjoying playing together. My fear was that it would be difficult as animals and children aren't always the most cooperative. However, Kate made it so fun for us. It's not that I consider myself a difficult person, but I am self aware enough to know that when I have a vision of what I want - I'm willing to do whatever it takes to execute that vision. For our maternity photos, that meant hiring Kate. After scouring instagram for Colorado photographers I found her page and was blown away by her maternity + newborn shoots. Both my husband and I take photos and don't love being in front of the camera, so I knew we would have to work with someone we trusted to capture our ideal images while also keeping it light and fun and making us comfortable. It was apparent that Kate could do that. She was in constant communication with me leading up to the shoot and despite the COVID-19 pandemic, assured me that we would still be able to successfully shoot with social distancing precautions in place. She was very understanding of my fears and concerns and went above and beyond to alleviate any worries I had. When it came to location scouting and even outfits, she listened to every single suggestion and thought I had and sent multiple ideas - for different locations around Colorado as well as different dresses and outfits I could change into that would really achieve the look I was going for. On the day of our shoot, she even came prepared with two back up dresses for me in case the one I brought didn't meet my expectations! She went above and beyond leading up to the shoot, kept us cracking up during, and was so receptive to any ideas or concerns I had and knew how to incorporate them while still keeping her own artistic vision in mind. I would be lying to you if I told you that I hadn't spent all day today looking through all our photos, sending them to my friends & family, while also posting them on social media. The biggest problem I have now is figuring out which ones I will frame for the nursery as there are SO MANY great ones to choose from!! SO grateful that I went with my gut and we hired Kate and that she will also be doing our babe photos once our son is here. It is not always easy to find someone who is so willing to work with you and go back and forth with you on every single detail to ensure you achieve what you want, but thankfully, we found that in Kate! This is a very belated but incredibly deserved review. Kate was an absolute delight to work with, and her photographs are outstanding. She did a family session with my extended family (parents, siblings and babies) who were meeting in the Bay Area from 3 corners of the US. I'm pretty sure this is the first time family photographs haven't ended in tears!
