While everyone has a different experience , I would like to say that thankful my daughter and her friends had a BLAST. I booked my daughter's party only within a WEEKS notice , and DURING A HOLIDAY. From start to finish , Alice was in contact with me , I asked a plethora of questions , ALL of which were answered in a timely manner. Alice , and her HUSBAND were so helpful literally from start to finish ! Alice was a little spicy , BUT you just have to give it back that's all. I think that's just her personality honestly because she was the BOMB ! Sassy , and all. The kids enjoyed her spirit. Her husband entertained the kids the whole time , they were quick and efficient with EVERYTHING. I'm bringing my sisters back for a ladies night paint and sip , or paint and pottery ! I will admit that after I read the reviews I was a little skeptical because of all the negative reviews BUT after this party ! My sister and I came in to paint some pottery on a rainy day! Alice and Alan were super friendly and gave us great tips to make sure our pottery comes out perfect. I will say that the price of the pieces were a little more than I expected (~$40 average price), but it ended up being well worth it. read more

My family found Sunshine Pottery in 2017 or so and came several times in the years leading up to the pandemic. We always had a great time. Well, fast forward to today, my now 14 year old daughter and I went there to get out of the heat, and the place is just as cute and fun as it was in 2020...and Alice remembered us from our prior visits! We painted a couple a pieces and had a really nice time. This is a great place to spend a couple of hours of quality time with your family crafting and listening to retro music! I wish I read reviews here.. before even considered to come to this place Very unprofessional personal and I would never recommend anyone to stop by this place. Manager yelled at me at the phone and actually after 2 mins conversation hanged up on the phone call. We were departing NJ as we don't live in states and I was trying to figure out on how we can get our paid items before departure, few days earlier. My daughter in-law and her visiting mother and I went there and did our projects and ask the very nice lady that was there if at all possible if we could have them before 5th of June. This place is operated and owned by a husband and wife team. I would be hard pressed to find a more unpleasant and nasty couple. They rushed us, in a practically empty studio, and were so rude to my kids we left before actually painting anything. This pottery shop is absolutely adorable! The shop is clean organized and super cute. The first time we came to the store my 4 year old daughters eyes lit up! They have a nice paint and pottery selection and they make it super easy for the kids to get creative with no fuss. They have always been so accommodating and sweet. "Give us a call when you come to pick up and if you have the kids with you we will run it out to your car" thats amazing hospitality! They now offer at home delivery so you can order pieces to paint and have a fun craft day in the comfort of your own home with the kiddos. I am so surprised to see all the negative reviews honesty - my husband and I had a really lovely experience and I fee it's important to share that with others. We brought our two girls today aged 2 and 4 to Sunshine and we had such a great time. They were already closed for the day but the owner let us come and paint anyway! Alice was very sweet to our girls and got them chatting with her right away. I really appreciated that because I would have been asking them what colors they wanted for another hour and she just figured it out with them quickly and painlessly :) Alice explained the whole process to us from painting to baking etc. and showed up the kiln! DO NOT GO HERE! I don't even want to give this place one star. I have been looking forward to using my groupon for weeks and I finally went with my sister today. We went in and I told the owner, Alice, I had a groupon. She stared at me blankly so I said, "....I want to use it." She got very annoyed and went on to explain that we should have called first, because "people with groupons need to call" She was very condesencding and we felt she looked down on us for using a groupon. She even went as far to say that the reason we need to call is because "she doesn't make any money from the groupons" (then why are you putting your business on there?). I told her we would be leaving because I didn't like how she was talking to my sister and I and that I would be leaving a bad review (here it is!). We started walking out and she followed us to my car (yes, you read that right) continuing to say that we should have called and can't we see how busy she is? (there were four people there). Our experience here was absolutely horrible. Made reservations for six kids and when we arrived the owner, the wife was rude, most likely racist. No instructions were given and she had the nerves to correct the girls on how to paint correctly in such an abrupt way. We were not acknowledged and felt completely out of place. If you are looking for a place to relax and enjoy painting your pottery STAY AWAY!! I took my nephew to Sunshine Pottery for a spur-of-the-moment afternoon, and had a nice time making a mosaic glass project. Alice, the owner, was super helpful in giving guidance and making me and my nephew, who has autism, feel welcome. The variety of art projects that can be worked on at the shop - paint-your-own pottery, canvas & black light painting, clay, beads, etc - means we'll be back. One thing to note, the entrance to the shop is at the back of the building, facing the parking lot, and not one of the street-facing shops. Which is fine, as you have even better access to parking than on Grand Avenue! read more

I stumbled upon this little gem after finding it on the Fun New Jersey website the other night. Went to check it out today with my friend for her birthday. I'd consider myself to be a little more artistically gifted than the average person, creating and crafting is a hobby of mine. However my friend is the total opposite, we call it artistically challenged lol. We met with Alice, the owner, and she was extremely helpful in getting us started. I decided to do a free-hand canvas painting (pictured) and my friend made a ceramic dog. We had such a nice time. Throughout the 2 hours we were there, Alice would come check on us, offer her artistic opinion, as well as compliments on our work. I really liked the fact that you can just walk in and make any project you desire. Most places in my area of bergen county only offer one service (painting, ceramics, etc.) with an appointment and a minimum amount of people that all have to do the same thing. Here the atmosphere is very casual and you can choose from painting, ceramics, glass painting, and pottery, (I'm sure even more that I'm not aware of) and everyone can do a project that they want to do. Sometimes you just need a day to be a kid! And that's what I got to do at Sunshine Pottery. I took my boyfriend for his birthday to do some canvas painting and I got to do some mosaic art and it was such a lovely experience. The owner is fantastic and helped with everything we needed. She even allowed us to stay a couple minutes past closing so we could finish up. I can't wait to pick up our pieces. And considering everything in Bergen county is so overpriced, it was refreshing to not be ripped off for a change! Everything was so reasonable and I was shocked at how affordable my total was. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE! There are plenty of other great pottery places to go to in Teaneck or Ridegwood. I came two weeks ago and painted a menorah and dreidels with my kids. I was told it would be ready in 10 days. I've now gone 4 times to pickup and each time they were closed when I went during their advertised hours. I then went again tonight (14 days later) to pickup and it's not done??! !! What made everything worse was the owners lack of care. I asked if it would be done tomorrow at least since we are now half way through Hanukkah and even that she cannot do. So now, Hanukkah is half way over, I just spent $68 on 2 dreidels and a menorah which I will not even now have for the holiday. This is completely unprofessional and unacceptable. If I had known items that were being made specifically for a holiday could not be done in the timeframe as promised I never would have gone in the first place. All of this made worse by the owners total lack of care for my disappointment. read more

POTTERY FUN FOR BIG KIDS TOO!! Our 2 married children and their spouses wanted to get together with us last Sunday for an indoor group activity that was a little different. It was our daughter-in-laws birthday and she loves arts and craft projects. Typically, the 6 of us would meet for brunch or dinner, but we thought it might be fun to find something centrally located where we could all meet and hang-out and do something relaxing and creative. After researching a bit on the internet we found the Sunshine Pottery in Engelwood NJ. It was everything we were hoping it would be! It was clean, inviting and FUN. The owner Alice was the perfect host. She helped us pick out our project, choose the paint colors and even offered some creative ways to make our pottery more decorative. We spent about 2 hours together sitting at the same table, catching up and sharing stories. It was true quality time that was uninterrupted. A nice bonus was that no one was on their phone checking texts or emails! For less than we would have spent going out to eat, we had the perfect day together. We're now talking to some of our friends to see when we can have an "Adult Pottery Party". We couldn't recommend The Sunshine Pottery place higher (unless there was a way to tap 6 STARS!!) Like so many others, I struggled with getting in contact with anyone at the store to schedule. The store hours are impossible for anyone with a 9-5. When I finally did get there to use my Groupon, I waited in the parking lot for over and hour with another car full of women and children who had scheduled a visit only to find the store wasn't open yet because the owner had a headache. After getting in the store, I was yelled at for suggesting I didn't get a call back and accused of leaving a garbly message with all the dogs in the background (I don't have dogs). She also told us one price before painting, and then changed her mind when we got to the register. She even tried to make us feel bad for her financial situation and literally held her hand out expecting cash because she didn't want to pay the credit card processing fees. The owner was rude to the clients, but so happy to see her family come in to get some pieces to paint at home. The contrast in behavior was striking and only served to reinforce how terribly she was treating clients. She actually took a piece out of one of my party's hands and wiped the paint off. If you are an adult with a flexible schedule and thick skin, go at your own risk. But DO NOT BRING YOUR KIDS. read more

Wow! This has to be the worst customer service I have ever received! I didn't even get to paint any pottery because the owner was very rude and condescending. If she would have politely told me I needed a reservation, I would have had no problem leaving and scheduling a better time. BUT instead she was nasty and made me feel like poor trash for having a Groupon. She followed my sister and I to the car, shouting how we were wrong and she was right! If you read this Alice, I found a Groupon on "how to talk to people" if you want it...unless you're too good for that! Get a clue! read more

I found this place online and sooo glad I did. I took my niece there for our monthly outing and what a great place! The owner is soo nice and welcoming. This is the first time I ever did any pottery project and not really the artistic type but with the help of Alice I made a great piece. She is very lovely and helped us with our art. We were there for about 2 hours enjoyed some good music and a relaxed environment. Everything about the place is wonderful. I even saw her set up for a birthday party and it looked great. After nearly 2 weeks someone FINALLY returned my call and this was because i had to go public and left a comment on Facebook about how many times i called and how disappointed i was of the service overall .. otherwise i absolutely sure i would've never received a call. On top of that the lady who called had such horrible attitude, i tried to ignore it but it was very obvious she was upset about my comment.. i finally asked and told her i was noticing some kind of attitude on her tone and she basically exploded screaming at me complaining about my comment on fb...i was not looking for anything else but the service i paid for..yet i lost my money because i would never dare to visit a store where they discriminate.. yes, discrimination...she was so frustrated she even said i have such a heavy accent she could not understand my message and rudely asked me if i was aware of that.. she never apologized about me having to wait for a call or the way she treated me...I can see this store is highly disorganized and are in desperate need of a long proper customer service courses ...i wish i can give 0 rating ...unlike other ppl, my experience with this store was absolutely the worst read more

No idea whats up with the bad reviews. I originally came for pottery painting from a Groupon, I had a wonderful time and the owner, Alice, was really friendly and sat down and helped guide me. I came back for a canvas painting class, I don';t have any artistic skills really, but I left with a canvas I'm not embarrassed to hang up haha! The woman is running the place by herself and doesn't even live near it, so maybe people arent happy with the treatment they are getting from a professional angle, but the place is right by my house with it's own parking lot (rare thing in englewood) and alice's services are fun and friendly and neighborly. I plan on going back and would recommend it to anybody looking to do something a little different with one of their nights. read more

Today, my company had the pleasure to have our annual holiday party at Sunshine. The location was very convenient for us. We were a group of eleven. Overall, the event was a great success, as everyone had a wonderful time. Alice (the owner) was terrific, as she was very pleasant and attentive to our needs. Some of us needed more guidance than others which was really based on individual preferences. We were able to select from a wide selection of pottery. Great place to bring my girls. They love painting their ceramic fairies, plates, bowls, animals etc. We have a huge collection at home on display. We go to make gifts for grandparents and I have a dessert plate that my daughter made once that we use all the time. Alice also restores broken ceramic pieces and fixed something that I had broken. Horrible customer service. This is only the second negative review I've taken my time to write, but I was so disgusted with my experience I felt I had to. I was there 15 minutes after the store hours stated it should have been open. It was not. My daughter and I waited another 15 minutes and just as we were about to leave, the owner showed up. She was somewhat terse when I mentioned we had been there waiting for 1/2 an hour. We paid full price and sat down to paint. Moments later a couple of ladies with their kids showed up with Groupons. The owner was the only one there and complained about being extremely busy and that they needed to call first to set up an appointment...really? We were the only ones there. She continued to treat them with utter disregard and zero respect. This lady was beyond unbelievable. Rude, classless, clueless and should be out of business shortly. Why? I have never seen someone handle customers in such a destructive manner to their own interests and future reputation. It amazes me how people running a business can think their behavior will go unnoticed in a social world. Shame on you. read more
