I'm updating my review as I did receive my payoff notice on my auto loan. Sunwest is saying I never called or emailed. The calls would never get answered and a recorded message would say computers down, no way to leave a message or record of my calls. As far as emails, I sent secure messages in my SunWest email box. They are there as sent but never answered. I'm good for now. Just disappointed in lack of communication. read more

Their staff is lazy and generally unhelpful when I would go into a branch. I don't know what leadership was doing but it looked like all of the employee's souls were dying. Despite their former downtown location being consistently busy and I had to wait in extremely long lines went I went into that branch they decided to close it. The moble app and the website has a terrible UI. They changed it again and it won't accept anyone's ID's or passwords. Then I went to call them but the woman on the phone kept trying to get me to buy a voucher worth $100, for $5. I kept asking for support or management, and she said that she would be the only person to assist me. I informed her that I was calling the number on the footer of the website offering for assistance. She interrupted me every time I spoke, then she yelled at me that "no one else is going to assist you," declined from getting a manager, then she hung up on me. I called again and have been on hold for for 15 minutes, and there is a recording that is offering me a loan and trying to get the person on hold to do breathing exercises, then it tells me "if you need a human, that's what we are here for." It is ridiculous! So much of my credit history is tied to you so I am afraid to go elsewhere, I would literally pay money to be able to take my history elsewhere. You are the 2nd biggest financial let down of my life. I have to drive 40 minutes to get to a branch. read more

Avoid this credit union at all cost. Ive been fighting for a month now to have funds that were electronically deposited into an account that's no longer mine and deposited into my account. SunWest was AMAZING up until 2024 when they did a mass firing of senior representatives and location closures. read more

Customer service is awful, you walk in no greeting, stand in line no eye contact, it's as if you are a nuisance. Paid off an auto loan in February 2024 and here we are in late March, March 26th to be exact and I had to call and inquire about the lien release????? I was told it was human error and it wasn't processed! Yes that's what you want to hear from an institution that deals with your finances! You only find out about this AFTER your account is open and you're denied access to services because you're not the "right" kind of customer. Online Banking | SunWest Credit Union (mysunwest.com) I'd read this webpage before opening my account. They have mobile deposit. However what it doesn't tell you is that you have to have a checking account (only available to those that are worthy) and have a direct deposit of $400 (I work as a landscaper so that should tip you off as to my ethnicity, and the fact I'm never going to have direct deposit). Besides that, if I had access to direct deposit, it wouldn't be so ticked that I'm excluded from using mobile deposit because I would really benefit from being able to deposit my pay through the phone. I called and complained about the way SunWest's criteria adversely affects Mexican landscapers, but they didn't much care. I was also told, "no bank lets you do mobile deposit into a savings account." That was a lie. I now have an account at Vantage West, and they let you do mobile deposit to a savings account. All customers should have access to mobile deposit regardless of product mix until the customer does something to demonstrate that their actions pose a risk of loss to the CU. Had things been fully disclosed on the webpage, I'd have never set foot in the building. read more

For the worst customer service, look no further than SUNWEST Federal Credit Union. I have been a member for over 25 years, but my last banking experience was the worst. After looking at the transaction for over an hour I still can not figure out what on earth they did. I walked in with a check to pay off my car loan, great right! After she looked at the check for 10 minutes she decided to run it through, now mind you it says right on the check to pay for my car loan. She looks up now and says what do I want to do with the money. I stated it was to pay off my car loan. Now after waiting another 15 minutes, I am on my way. Unknown to me she put a 2 day hold on the check, then she cleared out my checking account leaving me a 0.00 balance, than took the remaining balance for my car loan out of my savings account. I believe even Einstein would have an issue with this math she performed. She never said a word to me about how she completed this mind blowing transaction. She let me leave the bank with a 0.00 balance, and I had plenty in my savings account. But wait, the story continues when I call the bank in the morning, for I imagine an hour long conversation...trying to figure this out. All she would, could, should say was there is a 2 day hold on this check. Duh read more

The customer service at this credit union and branch is amazing. We went to this credit union for a car loan. The process was quick, easy and painless. Long story short , Larry H Miller Toyota screwed us and we had to return the brand new vehicle and get our check back, have a new check written for a different car dealer. Our representatives at SunWest took care of everything for us with no hassles! I would definitely recommend banking here ! I would also recommend never using Larry Miller Toyota in Peoria. They are shady and not trustworthy, use the Toyota dealer in Surprise- excellent customer service. read more

I have just received the best customer service ever from Serina S. at SunWest. She was attentive and listened to my situation then clarified what I was asking then proceeded to address each one patiently and with sincere empathy. At the end of that process, she asked so nicely if I knew about some products that could maximize my earnings. She then explained in understandable language, all the options. She was able to make fixes in realtime, and ask each time had all my concerns been addressed and fixed. All the issues had been, and more that I had been needing to look into. She is so knowledgeable about SW products and service, but more importantly she is kind and sincere. That just is not the norm now a days. Sunwest has been my bank of choice for the last 15 years! I was so happy for this new location to open and I'm even more pleased with the new renovations made to the building. The staff here is by far one of the most genuine, kind groups of people I have ever come across in a business. I have yet to visit this location and have a bad experience. The tellers are always smiling and greet me with a friendly hello (which we all know on certain days can be the highlight of our day) The Branch manager here Loree is an all-star! She used to be at the main location (Black Canyon Freeway and Cactus) but is now working at this new location on Bell. Loree is always willing to go above and beyond to help out customers (even staying a few minutes past closing hours when I annoyingly stroll in five minuets before they close... Sorry Loree :] ) She is extremely knowledgeable and trustworthy (obviously this is extremely important when it comes to people who are dealing with my money). I've followed her to this location because I know I can always count on her to answer all my questions. Ed the older gentleman that works here is a hoot! I absolutely love his personality! He always brightens up my day by cracking a funny joke or just simply putting a warm smile on his face! The other tellers here are just as wonderful and always are in good moods which always makes for an enjoyable environment. This credit union has low rates for personal loans around 7.90% which in comparison to other personal loans is extremely low so for this I do thank you! Sunwest is also insured by the National Credit Union Association which helps once again ease my mind. They have 7 locations around the state and also do shared branching which makes it easier for me and I'm sure other customers to deposit money regardless of what area of town you are in . I also like that you have several different options when it comes to managing your accounts. You can choose to have money transfers automatically take place monthly without having to set yourself a reminder, they have direct deposit available which for me is extremely helpful. This credit union also has overdraft protection fees which we all know is important. Another great selling point about this company is that they also have notary public services available at all of the seven branches, and ding-ding-ding these services are at no charge to members. So if you are sick of people you don't trust messing around with your money, if you're sick of outrageous interest rates and rude bank tellers make the switch to Sunwest and I'm sure you will be the happiest you have ever been with a Bank/Credit union!! Oh and I did forget to mention that if you suggest Sunwest to a friend or family member and they do go open an account I believe that Sunwest gives you 10 ( I'm not positive on the amount, but who cares its free money). Very difficult to deal with this credit union upon opening a new account. It holds checks issued by other banks for up to two weeks, though they are the same as certified checks. And it doesn't remember your home computer for online banking so you must answer security questions all the time. Plus when you call to fix a problem you'll be on hold between ten and fifteen minutes, or even more. Frustrating. read more

I just wanted to deposit a check, the teller said the check was 8 months old (from Wells Fargo) and she wouldn't do it. I asked why, she said Wells would not honor that old of a check, and that she would charge me $20. Also, Sunwest policy was checks were only good for 6months anyway so no deposit for me. Well, I called Wells Fargo and they have No Age Restrictions At All on their checks. I also called Sunwest main office who said their policy is 1 year on checks. Thanks for not being honest about your own policy, but another banks too. I quit this mess, and Won't miss the 1960's building and decor. read more

I came in as soon as the doors opened at the McDowell and 3ard St location. I was greeted by the tellers, but as my transaction began it took a turn for the worst. My teller Mario was rude and didnt know his job. I had been through the same issue before and the teller handled it perfect. I was laughed at by Mario and the teller next to him when I explained my issue of needing to add money to my account before the transaction finished processing. I asked could he call the accounting department and have the funds released before it bounced. He had the nerves to laugh along with the teller next to him. I told him to speak to his manager and she would give instructions on how to do it. He looked at me as if I didnt know what I was talking about only to be told by her what I had already told him. He called and the account specialist told him it was not processed and I would be fine and no NSF fee would be added to my account because I brought it current before it processed. His face looked really dumb and the teller next to him too. I've been a member for over 7 plus years and have never received horrible service. I will make sure that I never go to those two tellers windows again. read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would. My family has banked with Sun West for 40+ years and after always hearing how pleased my parents were with Sun West's services, I decided to attempt banking with them as well. My first poor experience occurred in May 2017 when I sold my vehicle privately and attempted to open an account at this branch to deposit the cash into after the transaction was complete. You'd think this would be a simple request, but apparently not. The woman whom I spoke to (I didn't catch her name, but she had medium length, blonde hair) was extremely condescending, repeatedly asked whether I had an appointment and couldn't seem to process what I was asking. Again, I purely wanted to open an account and place cash into it. I finally settled with placing the cash into my mother's account rather than opening my own. The teller with whom I completed this with, I believe her name is Shiela, was again, very condescending and curt in her responses. Overall, both team members were less than friendly and they didn't gain a new customer as a result. I decided to give this location another shot in July 2017 because like I said, my family has always had great interactions with Sun West. I went into the branch to get pre-approved for a car loan and the same teller as before, Shiela, helped me on this date. I have never applied for a car loan before (which I had told her), so you would think Shiela would try to be informative with a first-time applicant. That was not the case. She was again very curt and condescending when I asked questions. Yes, I am inexperienced in applying for a car loan and also young in age, but I am not an idiot and should be treated with a little more respect than was given. I work in public education and Shiela was very rude stating that I am "unemployed" currently and cannot "prove income", even though I stated I had a current, signed contract with the same district I've worked with for 4 years. Upon finishing the pre-approval form, Shiela asked, "Do you want to wait or do you want to know?" Which to me is an odd way to phrase whether I'd like to submit my application. Anyways, I never received a call though I was told I would) to know whether my application was approved or not - as if I would EVER do business with this credit union after how they acted towards me. I could go on trying to prove my point, but the gist is, this branch is staffed with rude employees who would benefit from a lesson in customer service or a change in careers (with the exception of the manager, Charlita, who is a very nice person). I do not recommend this branch of Sun West and would strongly consider doing business elsewhere, unless you're into belittlement. read more

We went to apply for a car loan five days ago. It was a Monday and it was very busy -- they were extremely short staffed due to two employees not showing up. The teller encouraged us to apply online or by telephone. So we went home and did just that. What a fantastic service! We were approved within minutes. They said they would hold our loan approval for sixty days and to go in to the branch when we could and they would do the paperwork. So we went in this morning (Saturday) and Sheila took very good care of us. Thank you for the fantastic service! read more
