We usually stay at this hotel every summer when we travel to Defiance. I have ALWAYS used a credit card to check in and paid cash on my way out until today. When I checked out I was told that hotel policy is that you cannot use cash - I know this is not true because my sister who arrived later was ASKED if she wanted to pay with cash or a credit card. There was a girl named Kristina (I think) working the desk who VERY RUDELY told me that people were not allowed to pay for their rooms in cash upon checking out. When and where is this "policy" posted? It's most certainly on the website for this hotel...Listed under "Policies" on their website it says the check-in and check-out times and that the hotel is smoke free...NOTHING about not accepting cash payments upon checkout... I asked to speak to the manager and of course she said he wasn't there and that she had NO WAY to call or get in contact with him. I've NEVER had a job where I couldn't get in touch with my manager! This whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth and any future visits to Defiance definitely won't be to this hotel. I WILL be following this up with a letter and a phone call to Corporate on Monday.

I was a little confused with a couple things though: -Why was the coffee maker in the bathroom? -The bed decor: some huge rug thing that wasn't really cute or soft Also, when we walked down the hallway there seemed to be a fan/ A/C unit? So we figured it was to keep the hall cool (since it was a little warm)? Then when we walked down to the pool I stepped in a wet spot right in front if the fans and realized it was there to dry the spot.. I didn't inspect where it came from, just proceeded a little weirded out. But it was still wet and being dried the next morning. We went to swim at about 9:30pm and the pool chooses at 10:00. The front desk personnel came in to the pool area and basically kicked us out AT 10:00... Buzzkill.. They didn't even have a Jacuzzi, just the pool. To be fair the pool was a perfect temperature. I just think they should keep it open a little later. They did have a continental breakfast in the morning, eggs weren't too good. Waffle machine was acting up.. There weren't any meat options. No sausage or bacon. Just eggs and biscuits. Juice wasn't stocked. Overall the value isn't bad, it was under 100 bucks. And to get free breakfast and a pool isn't too bad of a deal. The staff seemed to be pretty friendly and helpful.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quick check in, the cleanliness of the hotel lobby area and my room. The fitness room was small but well equipped so I could get a good workout in after a day of driving. I had a quiet room that overlooked fields in the back. I felt safe and comfortable and I got a decent nights sleep. Breakfast in the morning was decent too. The only drawback for this hotel is that if you want dinner, you're going to have to drive a bit down into Montpelier or Bryan as the options directly around the hotel are limited. I was not inclined to go out again, so I ended up eating the snacks I brought for dinner.

This area doesn't have a lot of hotels but there's a Quality Inn, a motel, and this hotel all within a block or two. I have the IHG credit card so I chose this hotel. I booked a room with 2 queen beds since it was cheaper than 1 king; upon check-in, I asked if they had any kings, hoping maybe I would get a free upgrade since I have silver status with them, but unfortunately they said a room with a king bed would be $30 more, so I kept my original room. Pros: -spacious room, and the bed was comfortable -only three floors and you're never far from the elevator -has both a minifridge and a microwave. The minifridge was rather tall actually and when I tried to open the fridge it kept moving a little bit -free breakfast and some of the reviews on here were complaining about it, whereas others called it a continental breakfast. It was a typical of IHG breakfasts I have experienced lately and it actually had quite a lot of hot options too -The Wi-Fi was fast and mostly reliable, however it would not work for my Nintendo Switch. I had no issues for my iPad and phones though. Cons: -rooms are definitely a bit dated. However, my room was very clean. -No restaurant on site but that is typical of Holiday Inn Express hotels that I have stayed at. There's a restaurant attached to Quality Inn called JJ Winns that I did takeout from, which was good. -The minifridge was actually too cold; I put a bottle of water in the side door so I would have it for pills for the morning and it was actually mostly ice in the morning unfortunately. I'm sure this can be adjusted but I didn't think to do so. Overall I would stay here again, it was an adequate stay and the price wasn't too bad either (about $122 for the night, before taxes, comparable to the other hotels in the area).

I was being recruited for a position in a company in the area and I was interviewing/checking out the company/checking out the area. I stayed in a room with a king sized bed. I ultimately took the job. I had to immediately book the hotel again. I therefore stayed here again from Jan 10 2020 for over a month while waiting to first get possession of the home I bought and during the time my floors were getting redone. Stayed in a suite, with two queen beds and a living rook that had a fold out sofa bed. Hard living with two other people in such a small enclosed space. The hotel does offer suites with kitchen, alas they are few and hard to come by. I spent the time in one without one and had to eat out all the time. My stats were pleasant, considering all the above. The hotel breakfast room is large and comfortable. The hotel has an indoor heated pool which is a big plus! The staff also is the friendliest hotel staff I have ever dealt with. I would talk to them all the time. We would ask how we were all doing, where we were in our move. These are genuinely warm people and the best part of staying at this hotel. There are some weaknesses. The breakfast is unappetizing, and I usually avoided it.. even though it was included in my stay. It didn't taste bad... just didn't have taste... it was bland. The coffee is weak. The suites can also definitely be a little larger and they need updating. Some of the furniture seems to have seen much better days. Still, I did enjoy my stay here and was thankful that I was able to find a hotel for such a long stay in such short notice.

There was still the previous guests washcloth slung over the shower curtain, someone else's hair clinging to the shower wall, what appears to be mold on the yellow wallpaper, and the cherry on top of the room disgrace? Pubic hairs left on the toilet seat. While I'm absolutely positive the reason for this horrendous room will inevitably be blamed on Covid, it strikes me as odd that I should be charged full price for their lack of staff or care. If you can, roll on to the next town for a place to sleep.

TV, mini fridge, wi-fi, and nuke in good working order; picnic tables under real trees on real grass out front for anyone so inclined with a little bit time which should be me but rarely ever is... woke up a little too early for anything then got up too late for breakfast so your guess is as good as mine, but yeah, I'm okay with OK.
