I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience with this hotel -- specifically with the…read moremanager, Nick Lavender -- was upsetting and unacceptable. I left two very expensive items in my room after checkout: a pair of AirPods and a white noise machine. When I realized this, I called the hotel the next day hoping to retrieve them. Instead of showing any concern or willingness to help, Nick was immediately dismissive and defensive. I asked if he could investigate with his housekeeping staff, and he outright refused, saying he "trusts his staff" and doesn't know me, so I must be lying. I explained that I had only been at the hotel and my brother's house -- there was no other possible location where the items could have gone missing -- but he insisted he didn't believe me and made no effort to even pretend to look into it in an investigative manner. When I asked for the owner's contact information to escalate the issue, he refused again and said he wouldn't allow me to "bug him." The complete lack of empathy, accountability, or basic customer service was honestly shocking. I understand that things get left behind sometimes, but the unwillingness to investigate or even acknowledge the possibility of wrongdoing by staff is deeply troubling. I feel violated and disrespected. If you value your belongings and want to be treated with decency, I strongly recommend staying elsewhere.

They have s nice big fridge in the room, no microwave. Stains all over the furniture, again the furniture is ancient and they obviously don't clean it. On the plus side, they probably have the very best location and views in Sitka and the best restaurant, compliments to the Chef. The staff are very friendly and accommodating and there's a very homey atmosphere.

The Sitka hotel has the charm and quaintness you would want and expect when visiting Alaska. Our…read moreroom had a small kitchenette which was nice to have. The location was perfect. We enjoyed how close it was to restaurants, shops, marina, parks and the beach. I would recommend staying here!

Ok so if you read my reviews you probably know I hate giving a bad review but this one just…read morecouldn't be helped. Came up to Sitka for a fishing trip. Trip was excellent but our flights were cancelled due to bad weather. So we had to get a hotel and wanted near downtown so we could get a bite to eat. We chose the Sitka Hotel. Price was expensive but on par with other hotels in the area. A double bed room was almost 300 bucks. It was clean but had an old chair in it to sit in and a desk, tv on the dresser and a mini fridge with a super cheap little coffee maker on top. Bed only had a single pillow per side but the sheets were very nice. That's where it ends though. In a state where the sun doesn't go down hardly at all you probably would want blackout blinds or curtain in the room. This room had a single curtain but the rod only went halfway across the window. There were mini blinds behind it but they didn't block a damn thing and they were broken to hell and had a section missing. The bathroom had some cheesy countertop, old fixtures and a plastic tub shower combo you'd find at a motel 6. Hot water was medium hot when it worked but my shower felt like I was competing with another room for hot water. It would get hot then cold then hit then cold etc etc. Like all motels these days there's no soap or shampoo it's just the dispensers bolted to the shower wall. The shampoo reminded me of the cheapest shampoo you could buy. Left your hair super dried out and stringy. The conditioner wasn't much better and barely evened things out. Body wash was either empty of didn't dispense. There were no directions on how to get the tv to work and from what I can tell either the cable was out or they didn't pay their bill because no matter what I tried I couldn't get to channels to watch. I would not stay here unless you absolutely had to. It's not worth it when right down the street there's a new hotel that has better amenities and probably not beat down like this place is.

I visit Sitka on a regular basis, this place is like a breath of fresh air, nice roomy VERY clean…read morerooms with a full kitchen, the entire hotel is clean and fresh. I just have so many mixed feelings here…read more.. The good: Staff are friendly and accommodating! Location is incredible, walk to everything! Prices are fantastic. The not-so-good: - Room service is only once a week. This isn't really a huge deal for me, but this place is just not setup and organized around this idea. For example: I was staying for 9 days but I only got 3 pouches of coffee? So I had to go down to the counter and ask for more every 3 days? You should have supplies for your entire stay. - You get to choose which day room service will come. I chose Monday and then...Monday came and went and...they didn't come. I told the front desk, and they came on Tuesday and did a great job, but this was right before I left so I didn't get to bask in the pristineness of it all. - Pillows are horrible. They are WAY WAY WAY too plump. See my photos. They are almost like cubes of pillow. Just as fat as they are wide as they are long. They hurt my neck so bad that I slept without a pillow most nights. No, I am not exaggerating. I asked the front desk about this and they were eager to give me different or more pillows, but this doesn't solve the problem as all the pillows in the whole facility are the same chonker-shaped plumpboiz. (that sentence ain't gonna age well...) They need to get some slimmer/flatter pillows! All pillows in in the whole dang facility are carbon copies of each other, so this issue is unfixable. - Parking is overrun. If you're lucky there will be one spot left. If you're not, you're going to have to use street parking somewhere. - There was a steak in my fridge from the previous guest. - Wi-Fi is slow and constantly boots you off. It's the type that has a pop-up window that makes you type the password, rather than saving the password in your Wi-Fi settings. I sometimes had to reboot my computer multiple times to trick this pop-up window into coming up so that I could re-type the exact same password I had typed dozens of times before. If you need to get work done, go to the library. The Wi-Fi here is too spotty and obnoxious. If you like thick, springy, plump pillows, I can recommend this place without uh...reservation. If you don't, bring your own pillow. Seriously.

This hostel has many positives: - friendly staff…read more- fantastic prices (mixed dorm is about 10 TIMES cheaper than a 2-star hotel in town) - solid WiFi - welcoming environment However, a few things keep it from 5-stars: - The hostel is closed from 10am-6pm. This makes logistics very cumbersome if you're traveling with heavy bags. You have to plan your whole day around what you wan to have access to. - The hostel is closed for the night at 11pm. Want to go for a night hike, get into town, and have a burger and a beer? Good luck. I had to run to get back to the hostel before the 11pm lockout. - Getting a reservation is more difficult than it should be. You can't do it on the web. You either have to do it via email or phone. I HIGHLY recommend doing it on the phone. - no real "common area": there's not really a central location to hang out with fellow hostelers. Yep, there are a lot of hoops to jump through if you want to stay here, I'd say they are largely worth jumping through, though.

Sitka was absolutely beautiful and being able to stay at this hostel was such a bonus. It's located…read moreacross from the Sheldon Jackson Campus and was the school's infirmary at one time. The beds are comfortable, the place is clean and the best place to "get your feet wet" at a hostel if you've never stayed in one before. I tried others around Alaska and they were okay but this one was by far the best. Walking to the downtown area is a short distance. The hostel has wireless but if you don't have a computer the library will let you use theirs for up to an hour. Washer and dryers are available as well as a kitchen and breakfast room. Fortunately, I met people from around the world and we all became fast friends. There were some college age hostelers and many over 50. It was a great mix of people and backgrounds. This hostel does not allow drinking or smoking. There is a curfew of 11pm with a lockout during the day and you'll sign up for one chore. No big deal, it just helps them keep the cost down and the cleanliness level up. They are open year round. It was cleaner than the hotel I stayed in over in Ketchikan for a fraction of the price. If you're going to Alaska I highly suggest you make it a point to visit Sitka. If you wish to take the economy route, like I did, this hostel was a great "first" for me! I hope I'll be able to return again in the years ahead.
