And for dessert I had a piece of pear & almond tart - vegan and gluten free. It was all very good. My friend had a chickpea tajine that was a little spicy and served with couscous. I only had a taste but it certainly left me wanting more. I really like that this place exists and is so close to my house. I do wish they were open for evenings and weekends though. It's more of a cafeteria than a restaurant but that's ok. But the food is after all just nice and nothing one couldn't make at home. It might deserve four stars for veggie-deprived France but for more vegetarian-friendly countries (i.e. anywhere but France) it's a bit disappointing, it misses the twist and some innovation. The prices range from around ten Euros for a big salad to nineteen for a set menu that includes starter, main and dessert, which I find a bit steep for what you get. So like my star dilemma, not sure if I'll go back despite everything that it has going for it.

Service could be improved due to other Michelin restaurant I never had to refill my glass with water which hurt them. The restaurant was well decorated, cozy and inviting. With the exception of another couple and their dog, our family of four were seated in area separate from the main dining room, next to the bathroom, isolated from the open kitchen and other diners. A note to future diners: make sure and request a table in the main dining room. Food-4: with the exception of the pigeon, the fish , vegetable, and dessert courses were well presented with delicate flavors that leaned toward the floral and fruity. Meal and wine pairings were good but not revelatory. We expected more from a Michelin starred restaurant. Service-3: uneven, one of our junior sommeliers was excellent and she really made our experience better whereas the head waiter provided perfunctory service. Overall-3: Without the actual "immersive" experience and "unique setting", the food and service alone was not enough for this dinner to be memorable.

Portions come in a bowl with a heating candle beneath. My wife was very satisfied with her portion of sea food curry. Rice is not included (!) so add 2 more euros to the price of 16/18 eur of curries. All in all - good but quite expensive place. They have increased prices for everything for 1.5-2 eurs since we had an "english" menu as well as in French - an ugly bunch of A4 papers and hand written prices lower than in original menu. Apparently they only offer a set menu in the evening and nothing à la carte, which was a disappointment. Upon enquiry they were happy to prepare either green vegetably curry or fried vegetables for the main dish, both OK options but unfortunally they couldn't suggest any vegetarian starter, which would have left me paying almost 25 Euros for a plate of vegetables and a dessert... thanks but no thanks... Service was friendly though and the food smelled good.

After…read moreseeing a fellow veg rave about this place online, I realized it was just down the street from my house and decided to give it a shot. I went in for lunch on a weekday with the baby (and the stroller) and asked the friendly waiter if they had a vegetarian plate (because I wasn't 100% convinced.) He assured me that yes, they did, and would I like to sit at a table outside? Why yes, thank you. I sat. After almost no time at all (which was good, because the wee one was getting a bit fussy), the waiter brought me a carafe of water and the vegetarian plat du jour. I was blown away. (See the picture I posted.) Marinated cucumber and onion, fresh greens in a light dressing, roasted eggplant (cold), grated carrots, lentil salad, some sort of vegetable mini frittata, and a vegetable tart. It was all fresh and flavourful. My only complaint was the vegetable tart had a cheese on it that was a bit too stinky for my silly American taste. Not a big deal - I ate it anyway. And the whole thing only cost me 10 euros! A steal. Oh, a word of advice. If you're going to sit outside, make sure to sit under the awning because one of the upstairs neighbors got a little over-zealous while watering his/her plants and it poured down all over me, the stroller, and the baby. (Totally not the cafe's fault. Just a tip!)

It's in Guillotiere, right over the bridge, so also convenient if you've been running (or strolling, if you're me) along the Rhone beforehand and want a quick pick-me-up. They have an unassuming but decent selection of snacks and beer, as well as board games that you can play at your table. (I flattened my opponent in checkers, but wasn't so lucky with chess...) Worth a visit.

Never mind Les Halles de Paul Bocuse…read more This is THE great gourmet market in Lyon. It is a massive massive street market on the banks of the Saone. Being on the river, it is as scenic as can possibly be imagined. The market goes on and on and on and on and on. Every kind of meat, every kind of fish, every kind of shellfish, every kind of vegetable, every kind of fruit, every kind of cheese, every kind of bread, every kind of pastry, every kind of spice, every kind of charcuterie, every kind of artisanal prepared food, Any thing you can think of in French cuisine: It's all here at the Marche Saint-Antoine. And they have it at multiple stalls - so you can pick and choose which vendor you like. Want to make pigeon stuffed with quince? They have the pigeon. They have the quince. Do you want fromage blanc made on the Savoyard model rather than following the Lyonnaise model? You have that option and six other choices as well. Have a French cookbook you read but can't use, since you can't find about a third of the ingredients? All those ingredients are at the Marche Saint-Antoine. The prices are very very reasonable. (The contrast with Les Halles de Paul Bocuse is particularly striking on the price issue.) If I lived in Lyon, I would set my cooking days to be the market days at the Marche Saint-Antoine ... Even if there was a perfectly good smaller market in my neighborhood.
