Let me start by saying that this place is amazing is an understatement. I flew into Ireland from…read moreChicago, got off the plane with my friend and my luggage, and taxied to the area because our Airbnb was nearby. We had to waste an hour and were starving so we were going to check it out. It started to rain. So here we are with our luggage and exhausted, standing outside looking pathetic because it was packed and we couldn't sit on the patio. The manager guy sees us, comes and welcomes us and asks if we wanted a seat. He took our luggage somewhere safe and got us a table. And then the food came. We got the avocado toast. It was so good and so comforting that our entire trip started perfectly. 10/10 would go again if it wasn't a plane ride away.

I love good local restaurants and The Hungry Duck is no exception. I understand that this is not…read morethe first restaurant at this location and the previous ones didn't last. The Hungry Duck deserves to succeed. Three of us came for breakfast/brunch and had three very Train wreck dinner. For those of a certain generation it was reminiscent of Fawlty Towers presided over by possibly one of the rudest waiters ever to set foot in a restaurant. The whole place was subdued with an atmosphere that could be cut with a knife. People seemed genuinely afraid to speak out of turn. The meal, although adequate, was in no way memorable and was completely overshadowed by the astonishing service. Would I go back? Not on your nelly.

Ah the wonderful Irish anomaly of the Italian chipper. The rest of the world associates Italy with…read morepasta and ice-cream, and we associate Italy with a single and a batter burger! Borza, and this one prides itself on being the original Borza, is a classic Irish-Italian chipper, and certainly one of the best chippers in the city. This family business produces some of the best chips you will ever taste - they even stand up to sober scrutiny. The chips are always fresh as the staff generally cook to order (certainly I've never been given anything less than a fresh bag of chips from them), and the Borza vinegar is so special that you might find yourself buying a bottle of it to keep for your very own! Aside from chips Borza also serve a wide variety of other fast foods including burgers, southern fried chicken, fish and pizza. I quite like the various southern fried chicken boxes but have found myself wimping out and getting the 'Junior box' because the others are just too much! They're open daily from lunch time until late and pride themselves on only closing one day a year. Borza also acts as a place you might find essentials such as milk, bread, and chocolate (you know: the staples!) if you find yourself out of them at an awkward time. The downside to Borza is that if you're looking for something on the low-calorie side you're going to have to look elsewhere. These people have been known to deep fry mars bars!

I don't eat much fast-food so I wouldn't be the best person to compare places. but based on the…read morecouple of chippers ive been to, this is the best. its spotlessly clean, the staff are super nice and the menu is huge! and the chips are the perfect amount of unhealthy without actually tasting greasy or sickly.

Wine menu offers a good affordable and drinkable selection, available by the glass as well as the bottle, house wine is very palatable in my opinion, unlike the muck they serve in some places! Pastas are pretty standard, but I am not a big pasta fan to start off with! There is a good selection of pizza with some interesting topping choices. As a starter meatballs in tomato sauce are very tasty and the salmon is melt in the mouth.

Suppli to start which is a favourite of mine, served with garlic sauce and a salad, and a main of a creamy pasta dish which I devoured. My companion had a meatball started followed by pizza, and when he couldn't finish his main they wrapped it up for him to take away, something I really feel more places should offer. A total highlight was the cheap as chips wine! €4 for a glass of house white and it was damn tasty too! It would be a great place for groups with a split dining room, and is very suitable for families, there were quite a few there on my visit and all looked happy!
