A fine dining bistro with comfortable seating and exquisite décor located in the lovely town of…read moreMaynooth. Came here during my Sunday walk of Royal Canal Way, but the lunch seating was full at around 2:00 pm so the staff told me to come back at around 5-6 pm for dinner. Came back at around 5:20 pm and was instantly offered a table. Service was friendly and attentive. Starter: foie gras. Came with two slices of intact foie gras with berry sauce, veggies, and sliced apples. Rich, gamey, savory flavor of goose liver, no foul taste at all, literally melting in the mouth, perfect to be enjoyed both stand-alone and with the crispy bread. The berry sauce and the sliced apples helped offset the fattiness of the foie gras and added succulent refreshing and fruity taste to the dish. One of the best foie gras dishes I've ever had. Entrée: 10 oz dry-aged rib eye steak, medium, with mash potato, green beans, and a bit of house green sauce. Steak came with beautiful grill marks, temperature was spot-on, packed with beefy flavor, and the beef fat part were kept intact to add more flavor and texture to the steak. The house green sauce had pleasant spiciness and rich grassy flavor, a great companion for both the rich flavor of the steak and the creamy mash. This steak dish was probably better than many of the steakhouses out there. Drink: I am more of a whiskey guy, but I asked the staff to recommend a house red wine to go with my steak. A bit less sweet than I had desired, but very complex flavor of toasted oak, leather, pepper, pear, orange peel, and a bit of subtle sweetness of ripe red grapes or grape juice. Very nice. Dessert: house tiramisu. A bit on the sweet side, but the texture was silky smooth, and the melted black chocolate on plate provided yet another layer of appetizing flavor. Overall 5 stars. Worth every cent of the money, and the high rating on Yelp is well deserved.

Wow. What a meal…read more Just two weeks old, and already a well-oiled (and extremely tasty) machine. Usually when you visit a restaurant that's so new, there are lots of chinks that need ironing out, processes that need tweaking, menus that aren't quuuite spot on yet. Not so in Canteen. You could be forgiven to assume it had been there for years. The staff and management have clearly taken the best bits from their old Blackrock haunt, and added to them for the new Celbridge abode. From beginning to end, everything about the meal was perfect. - The piping hot just out of the oven bread and soft butter landed on the table as soon as we came in - The exquisite amuse bouche that followed straight after - The menu which strikes the perfect balance between modern Irish & French cuisine - not too fussy and not too plain. In fact we had a few fussy eaters on our table, and everyone without exception demolished everything put in front of them. A testiment indeed to the fresh ingrediants and clever combinations. - The decadent truffles that completed the experience! Now, a special mention to the star of the show. The Crème brûlée. Mother. Of. Deserts. Hands down the best crème brûlée I've ever had. The richest, most dense & velvetty caramel. Wow. I'm still thinking about it. The interior is slick - painted in a grey and blue pallet, with massive floor to ceiling windows, minimalist lighting and contemporary art, it's got a serene feel, and manages to thread the line successfully between sophistication and quirkiness. The staff were on point - friendly, efficient and knowledgable. Then there's the price. If you count the bread, amuse bouche, three courses and the truffles at the end, you're essentially getting a five course meal for 38 euro. Incredible value. With wine, 55 euro. Worth every cent. This is the type of place that Celbridge has been crying out for. They're going to do exceptionally well. More power to them.

It's hard to know where to start when something is just so damn good…read more.... Contemporary , bright and welcoming decor this family run restaurant is exactly what celbridge needs! Oh and have I mentioned it's finished off with complementary choc truffles. And even better..... The price..... My entire meal including 3 glasses of wine plus tip was only 55 euro! When I think of beef stew, I think of my mom's homemade version. So one of the things I was most…read morelooking forward to in Ireland was trying authentic Irish stew. Our first meal in Dublin was at The Old Mill Restaurant, right in the heart of Temple Bar. It's been serving traditional Irish fare since the 1980s and has become a favorite stop for both locals and visitors looking for classic comfort food. After about a 20-minute wait, we were seated in the warm, inviting dining room. Susan ordered the mussels, one of her favorites, while I went with the Traditional Irish Stew and my daughter chose the Braised Beef & Guinness Stew. Both were exactly what we hoped for: hearty, flavorful, and perfect after a day of sightseeing. I finally understood why the Guinness stew had such a rich, dark color, and I have to admit, I came home a big fan of Irish stew. We finished with the Homemade Bread & Butter Pudding topped with fresh cream and custard, a comforting dessert that was the perfect ending to the meal. Service, atmosphere, value, and food were all five out of five. We also enjoyed chatting with the floor manager, whose pride in the restaurant and his team was obvious. That kind of hospitality made a great meal even more memorable.

The mash was too thick and chunky, the bangers were bit overcooked. The mussels was disappointing, seafood chowder was ok. The restaurant is located on the second floor. We made a reservation, but was asked to wait while they cleaned up the table. Unfortunately, the table they wanted to seat us, the folks decided to have a long after dinner conversation, thus we ended up waiting longer than expected. Then they seated us at a larger table after waiting 15 minutes or so. The service was decent... wasn't fan of tipping request, EU needs to stop adopting USA's stupid system :)
