My wife and I began training at Supremacy Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu nearly three months ago, and we've have had an overwhelmingly positive experience. I've found the academy to be a positive environment that promotes safety and respect, as well as the mindset of personal/team growth. Professor Rodrigo Grenno is a world-class instructor who works to understand and meet the needs of his students. He provides personal attention to students as they practice techniques, and actively observes/coaches during live drills and sparring. It is clear that each class has a planned objective that scaffolds learning from week-to-week, allowing students to develop a technical game-plan from each position. As a blue-belt, I've found that the advanced classes offer a place for students to meet a variety of goals ranging from fitness and self-defense to competition. As a middle school teacher I would wholeheartedly recommend this academy to my students and their families. The kids classes and white-belt fundamentals classes have been purposefully designed to help beginners safely ease into training a martial art while building confidence, self-esteem, and respect for others. White-belt class instructor Bobby Fratone is a highly technical purple belt who goes above and beyond to set an example that promotes the art and sport of BJJ with his detailed instruction, positivity, and inspirational attitude. If your like me, a 30 something that's not in top shape but enjoys the exercise and the experience of BJJ, this is just as much for you. Our head professor (Marcio Cruz's first Black Belt) is a brilliant instructor that teaches 95% of advanced classes (two stripe white belt and up). Master Grenno from Rio DeJaneiro, Brazil(a Gracie lineage black belt via Marcio Cruz Tampa)is the best martial arts instructor I have ever had. There is no sales pitch needed here. His level of training and ability to instruct even the greenest beginner speaks for itself. You will not be pressured to join like you are buying a used car( like a lot of other schools around here). A super family friendly environment and the best Brazilian Jiu-jitsu around. Myself , my wife and both of my sons all have been training here and we all love it. I started doing Yoga on and off in my 30s to stay flexible, but found it boring. I just couldn't build enough enthusiasm to get to the gym even once a week. Now in my 40s and dealing with health issues, I needed to do something or just accept being out of shape and out of breath was my future. Coach Bobby teaches the beginner adult classes and is a great guy. He is always smiling and welcoming to all who step on the mat. I cannot say enough good things about this gym! I started training here 4 years ago when I was 15 years old. I was a little stand off-ish at first but after taking my first class I fell in love with it, the gym is very clean is a great family environment. My father passed away on Saturday May 2 and I had not been on the mats since Wednesday April 30th. I searched Google for jiu jitsu schools in St. Pete and called Supremacy on Sunday. I've been a student here for about 3 years now and I love the culture here. Bad attitudes don't last long. Everyone is friendly and willing to help you train or perfect a technique.
