I kind of liked heading up the stairs - it added to the "I'm heading for a new experience" feel. Also liked the "left to the Beauty Parlour" or "right to Barber Ha" landing I arrived at. The narrow shop is nicely and newly appointed with three comfy-looking barber chairs at the front, and a seating area in the back where you can watch TV or read a magazine while you wait. The barber, Noel (formerly of Tidory's downtown, I think), was super friendly and instantly understood the (admittedly simple) cut I was seeking. The cut was excellent, and I appreciated the attention to detail as he finished the cut with a straight razor around the hairline. Also the building he's located in also flooded recently and he had to close down then as well until the landlord cleaned it up. But at least then he was remaining open at a nearby female hair salon. Really the only negative is he doesn't accept credit cards, cash or debit only, but this is in large part why he can keep his prices so cheap. Otherwise he'd be over $20 like most other barber shops. Personally I give him a $20 and let him keep the change as a tip, because he deserves it and could use it too.
