    Pine Street Carpenters

We chose Pine Street for a full house remodel (replacing electric, plumbing, major structural…read morerevisions) of an historical home in the West Chester borough. Our primary objective was the highest quality work that would preserve the historical aspect of the home, but fully modernized and at the lowest reasonable cost. Nearly three years since we engaged them and we continue to feel like that was the best decision we could have possibly made. The essential things that made this experience wonderful for us, particularly as first-time home renovators, were the detailed planning and rigorous project management, the quality of craftsmanship and expert network, and the incredibly warm professionalism and care of the team. In sum, they delivered below our initial cost projections and ahead of time -- nearly the opposite of all the horror stories we've heard about some of the other crews. In the beginning, it was a very difficult decision to choose Pine Street. Their cost projections were higher than their competitors by A LOT. I nearly dismissed them because of it. But the level of detail and thoughtfulness in the bid really won me over. When I questioned competitors about some of the detail included in the PS bid, they would always respond that if that happened, they would need to increase costs, etc. It really made me worry about what final costs would eventually be and I ultimately chose PS for their transparency and integrity. Perhaps the best element of the entire project was the onsite project manager. This is a person who will be your main point of contact throughout, who will have all of the answers and will ultimately know your home better than you do. This is an enormous gift and a real relief in what would otherwise be a stressful time. Ours would call us proactively, make great suggestions and recommendations (things that you just don't know as you begin, but that are revealed as you get started). For example, he had a piece of reclaimed barn wood in his garage that he used as an accent piece in a stairwell or, in another case, was able to use parts of the existing rafters as trim in the bedroom. These little things feel brilliant when you're trying to preserve the feel of the home and keep costs low -- and these are simply things we never could have anticipated in the planning stage. This role in your remodel can really magnify the experience as a client. Another aspect to consider is that Pine Street has cultivated a network of people they trust over years of experience and working together. Every single person who came through our house was knowledgeable, respectful and responsive. The team would not have allowed it to be any other way. Further, at the end of the project, they gave us a portfolio of contact information for each person that had worked on the house, so if anything goes wrong or we need some additional work, we have a network of folks that know the house and that we know we can trust (and who, by the way, will be very quick to respond out of respect for their relationship with Pine Street). Finally, the part that is hardest to articulate, is the warm professionalism that the team brings. You'll feel it first with Brendon when you call with your first inquiry, but you'll leave feeling nearly astonished that the entire team carries it forward: problems will be addressed and solved before you even hear about them; the site will be clean at the end of every day without fail; the team will stop what they're doing when you enter to make sure you can see and understand the steps that are being taken (and they never got impatient with our very frequent visits). Again, all things we didn't know before we started but ended up defining the quality of our experience. It is an important decision to choose the right partner in these efforts. I can get easily stressed out by the volume of decisions that need to be made and was vigilant about costs and timing. The Pine Street team exceeded most of our expectations and left us knowing we made absolutely the right decision.

We had a very large scale renovation done by Pine Street that took about four months. They were…read morealways professional, provided great design advice along the way, and for the most part communicated well. This was a big project organizing lots of materials, people--including us, the clients and juggling unexpected structural issues, so of course there were a few minor hiccups along with way and the project took a bit longer than initially expected, but this was in part because of change orders we made. All in all, a great experience. This was our first renovation and it was as painless as you can get. We've been recommending Pine Street for the high quality, good design suggestions and smooth process.

The cost went up slightly but still beat competitors' pricing. They provided a time convenient to me and were able to get bulk yard waste removed, trim back some hedges and repair bug screens in an afternoon. I would use them again for similar work. They do all sorts of handyman work in and outside the house.

I saw this service off of Yelp, and decided to try them out for requesting an estimate. When I…read morefirst made an appointment, the person was going to be late and my schedule was jam packed. I ended up deciding to cancel that appointment and made another one. On my second request, I initially said "any time on a particular Friday." They gave me a range of 9-11 AM on a Sat and I asked if they could come in at 9 AM and they said yes. They ended up coming in right before 11 AM. So, I can understand that I needed to try to pick a time interval to be available rather than a time, okay. I gave them some stars for working with me and being professional for the in-person estimate itself. I was then told that I would receive an estimate over the phone in the same day some hours later. I requested by e-mail instead and was told that this was fine. During a time period of two weeks and two days after that, I had made three phone calls. I left voice mails twice and got through one time, the 2nd time I believe. I was told that the estimate was mixed up with something else and that it would be coming out. I'm not sure if they want to work with me or not, but at least it would be nice to let me know that instead of running me around. For potentially big jobs, my reasonable concern of not being able to receive an estimate by e-mail (or snail mail physical copy) makes me feel like there would be a he-said-she-said dynamic if I went for this. For smaller jobs, it isn't such a big loss and they seem like they do good work from the other reviews and my interaction with the attendant during the estimate. They may not be the most pronounced with their words, but I was willing to consider them with the other good reviews and them being local to me. With the lack of an estimate by e-mail, it made me wonder if the company or someone in the company has a PA license number. I would like to presume yes, but I couldn't find one personally based on company name. I know the search engine isn't the best if you don't have the actual license number to look up. If there are any updates/changes to this review or if it's proper for me to write another review as I can't update this one after about a month, then I will do so. I've strongly considered and tried to rate my experience as fairly as possible, and I really feel that Sunny's services could've done much better with their interactions in working with me after the estimate was completed.

From my husband: As a resident of Delaware County PA and someone whom both enjoys my communities "Nextdoor" site and uses it for several enjoyable things. On March 26, 2018 after a discussion with my wife I reached out to "SHAWN THE HANDYMAN" whom is a local contractor in our area (License# PA 135378). My wife & I wished to update/refresh our 2nd bedroom. Remove wall paper, replace window with new one, repair walls and freshly paint them as well as paint a small closet.  Install new door knobs (2), install 2 inset lights and new switches as well as remove and replace an existing ceiling fan. It was to be an entire room "refresh". We were upon our intial meeting given a competitive quote and selected SHAWN ROBERTS to do the job. The job started 3/17/18.  On this date he was given his first check 1/3 after two days (approx 4-5 hours worked in total) I was asked for the next 1/3 ( yes smh shame on me). On 4/7/18 Shawn  Roberts asked me upon arriving to help him by giving him another $300 (part of his to be final payment) I felt badly for his story and I suppose being terminally ill am not as sharp or possibly a softer more distracted person currently. Geez as I write this, I'm indeed a dummy smh what has happened to me?? I gave him $200 (didn't want to do the $300 he asked). Anyway, since that date Mr. SHAWN ROBERTS the Handyman has not been seen. I have received one text of being ill on April 8th by his wife stating that he was ill and hospitalized (no hospital in DE county has record). On 4/11upon texting we we're texted he would be back at the house on 4/12 at 10 am. 10 AM no SHAWN ROBERTS! 10:55 told he would be there "shortly" 4pm NO SHAWN ROBERTS (yes using capitalization and full name repeatedly as it is my sincere hope to burn the name into my fellow neighbors minds so as to possibly and potentially protect them from this person) SHAWN ROBERTS the Handyman. We, my wife and I have repeatedly reached out to this so called professional. (75+ texts in total since meeting this person!!). So now my wife and I will contact another contractor and sincerely hope we have learned a valuable lesson and hope our neighbor's are forewarned that "SHAWN the HANDYMAN" aka SHAWN ROBERTS LIC # PA 135378 should be AVOIDED!!! So as I'm aware now life is short and a lesson has indeed been learned. Please be aware (SHAWN ROBERTS) neighbors and God bless. Oh! it just occurred to me that he maybe smiling/smirking as he reads this. I Sir, not only have our complete text message chain; I also have pictures if your vehicle and license plate number! Maybe I'm not totally slowed down due to my illness after all. Anyway, you should be aware that you can expect a court appearance in the near future Sir. I hope not responding to me and doing what you did was worry it to you! Enjoy your night!
