Super fun class and great way to get into surfing.The teacher was great and helped me understand how to do everything and was very patient.

Edison is a fantastic, laid back, easy going guy, who makes learning surfing fun and low stress. He took us to an area that was beginner friendly but also allowed us to try catching bigger waves. He helped paddle us out when our arms were getting tired and set us up for success for each wave we caught. We felt so safe and enjoyed every second! Not to mention the sheer beauty of the beach, mountains, and sunrise. A true highlight of our trip. My son, Gavin (14 years old), and I just had the time of our life doing two days of surfing with Edison on the North Shore. We both had multiple all-time best waves... all captured on video. Surfing with Edison was an absolute blast! We were all beginners and all of us were able to stand up and ride at least one wave. Surfing the North Shore at 7am under a beautiful rainbow was a picturesque experience. I was looking for an older teacher who could handle my medical limitations and meet me at whatever spot had the right waves for my skills since I surfed a bunch before. At first I was disappointed that the owner, Edison, was busy with another group. Imagine my surprise when he paired me with Brazilian world champ surf pro Leco Salazar!!! We had a great session at Turtle Beach with only 2 other surfers in the line up. Edison offered me more coaching and tips after the session, all at the same or a lower price than other North Shore private lessons. Edison is a great guy who surrounds himself with top notch talent. I visited from West Virginia and am a beginner surfer who just started shakily standing up on the board last year. When speaking to Edison prior to our trip, his kindness and enthusiasm made our decision easy. He started us at the right beach for our level and provided everything we needed (even a rash guard to anyone who needed to borrow); he encouraged me and I quickly gained confidence on the waves. After three lessons, I'm now far beyond just standing up: I'm more confident in choosing and catching waves and maneuvering much better on the board. The highest compliment I can pay Edison and Surf Hawaii is this: any google search will tell you that Edison is beyond an expert surfer in his own right; but what is rare and wonderful about him is the genuine joy he shows on any average day out in the waves. My sister and I recently took a surf lesson from Edison. It was terrible. Although he did seem to know what he was doing, he was unable to answer any questions we had. His instruction sounded like a recording, like he didn't actually care or didn't understand when we had a concern. When I asked him how to turn the board to avoid hitting another surfer, he said :paddle hard keep your head up." He said the same thing to my sister when she asked how to avoid stepping on her leash. However, the icing on the cake was when Edison got in an argument with another instructor. She asked my sister to paddle in the channel (we don't know what this means, but we get the idea that we should have). Although her tone of voice was neutral, Edison began screaming at her. "Don't tell me what to do! You can't tell me what to do!" He kept yelling. While we don't know exactly what they were arguing about, Edison seemed way out of line. The woman instructor seemed shocked and said she was just trying to keep everyone safe and having fun. She and her student paddled to another part of the beach. There were a number of other beginners taking surf lessons, from a number of other schools, and every instructor had a smile on their face....except Edison. They were laughing and seemed to be having a good time. My sister and I felt like we had chosen a bully to teach us how to surf. read more

Lying Crooks - No Teaching - Find Another School. I booked 5-days private lessons. When I arrived first day, there were 2 other people in the group. I called Edison and told him he lied about the private lessons and threatened to cancel. He promised me an extra lesson if I don't cancel. Advertised as 3-hr lessons, never was 3-hrs even if u included prep time, hit a record low of 1.5 hrs for one of the lessons. Teaching is non-existent. Your just tossed in the water with a baby-sitter, they don't teach you how to paddle, how to turn, or anything. Another instructor teaching a kid saw how horrible I was paddling out, she gave me tips on how to paddle back out, while my paid instructor was chatting with other people and didn't know I existed. When Day 5 came, Edison said he won't honor the extra lesson he promised me, because he got in the water, and he thinks if he gets in the water, he is worth two lessons. This company is just a bunch of crooks operating from a Van, intended to rip off tourists from foreign countries. read more
