I worked with Taxes by Terry this past tax season and had a frustrating experience…read more I began submitting my documents weeks in advance, but throughout the process there was limited clarity on what additional information was needed. Communication was inconsistent, with responses often coming very early in the morning or on weekends, which made the process harder to manage in my experience. As of April 13th, my return had still not been filed. On the 13th, I was asked about payment. I explained that I planned to pay once I received a completed draft of my return, especially since my invoice was not due until April 27th. This resulted in her getting very upset. During a phone call that followed, I was told that nothing was owed at that time. However, on April 15th at 11:52 PM, just minutes before the tax deadline, I was informed that I did owe money for my taxes. Then the following day, I was told the return had been adjusted to break even. This back and forth added confusion to the process.

She absolutely understands how important it is getting every possible penny back, and will make sure you are getting every cent due to you. Phil does our personal and business taxes. I've also gone to him for cash flow management…read moreconsulting. I am extremely pleased with the level of service provided by both Phil and his staff. Finances/accounting/ bookkeeping/taxes are my biggest weakness as a business owner. I appreciate that they never make me feel like an idiot or talk down to me. His staff is very courteous and helpful. I've had some big messes to clean up in my books and they took it in stride without ever being judgemental toward me. Phil is my third accountant as a business owner and I'm here to stay. I appreciate the things they automatically take care of, like filing extensions, because as I've said finances/accounting/taxes are not my forte. I need automation and a hand holder. Phil has always been very thorough with our returns. While I'm not super savvy with deductions and taxes, I know the basics. He's always made sure we are taking the most beneficial deductions and such. Phil runs a well-oiled machine. Very happy with the service we receive.

"Hard to believe I've just wasted 30 minutes explaining a ridiculously low partnership fee AND just wanting to provide you a copy of the return we prepared for almost free!   It never fails as the returns I prepare with a severely discounted fee always end up being the ones that cause me the most problems! Seems if I'm going to catch hell for preparing and e-filing a return for a client for a totally ridiculous fee charged, I might as well charge my average fee of $650 for the return.   Phil Manley, CPA"

As I'm about to do some International travel within the next few years, I found a great brokerage…read morefirm, notice I didn't say bank, but it's a bank, and it's not! Confusing huh?? I'll break it all down for you in this review. Description: Charles Schwab is an online bank. They have no ATM's which is why when you use their debit cards, they don't charge you. Which means any ATM that does charge you a fee, Schwab will return your fees at the end of the month. That's what I love! Rather you're in the US, or Southeast Asia, your international fees will also be reimbursed at the end of the month. Where to use: You can use the debit cards anywhere around the world without any international fees. Just make sure to call them before you travel or move abroad. If you plan on moving abroad like I do, call them so they will then set up an international account for you because they are also international in some countries. Doesn't matter where you move, you're covered! Pros: 1) No international nor local transaction fees. That's already a winner in my book. 2) You're given a brokerage account on the side where you can use it to buy stocks or bonds or just use it as a savings account. However if you decide to start investing, call them and they can do it for you if you don't know what you're doing, with a fee of course. 3) Return all transaction fees you were charged at the end of the month. 4) After you open your account online with at least a $1, they send you your debit card. After you deposit $100 or more, they will send you your check book. Cons: 1) No ATM machines 2) You have to make all of your deposits online, you can also fund your account with Apple Pay. 3) If you go to a branch, you can't deposit any money there as it has to be done online. Final thoughts: It's nice to find a bank or brokerage, whichever you want to call it with no transaction fees no matter where you go. You can also set up direct deposit for your account. There is no bank that I know of that will return your transaction fees let alone not charge you for using a different ATM. As I've stated earlier, the only reason they don't charge you is because they don't have ATM's in the first place. This place is a clear winner in my book! If you plan on traveling abroad, I highly suggest starting an account with them. They will save you so much money in the long run.
