I just wanted to comment on the professionalism Susan's Exterminating exhibited when dealing with a surprisingly combative referral. My former neighbor is an elderly sickly lady living in her Overbrook row home with a number of cats, between 10 - 15. My former neighbor called me in a panic and said her home was infested with mice and asked if I could find an exterminator. I immediately went to Yelp to find a reputable exterminator to help her. Susan's Exterminating was highly rated, so I called her first. She answered the phone and said although the residence was outside of the area she usually does business, she would help. Imagine my surprise when Susan called me back to tell me regrettably she would not be able to assist my former neighbor because she was very combative, her demands were irrational and she suspected there may be other issues that needed to be addressed. I was so embarrassed. I called my former neighbor and heard first hand what Susan must have encountered. I cannot speak highly enough about the service we received from Susan's recently when we suddenly had what felt like an army of mice living in the walls of our row home - it was terrifying (despite none of them actually showing their faces outside of the walls until the morning of our appointment). She would have given us a same-day appointment when I called if we were able to make it work but we had too much going on and scheduled it for the next afternoon. Maggie was our technician and did an amazing job. She walked me through exactly what was going to happen after she left (when the mice would start becoming more visible, how they'd react to the bait, etc) and I was still skeptical because there just sounded like there were so many. Well, every single word she said was spot on and after 2 weeks, we stopped hearing all sounds of them and after 4 weeks, Maggie came back for a follow up visit and all signs of life are gone! I was intrigued by a female run Extermination company. I checked her out on YELP and decided to give her a try. I wasn't home for the visit, but hubby said that she showed up early. And was friendly and seem knowledgeable. Now, he sprayed before she came, so it was hard to gauge how effective her visit actually was. We pulled EVERYTHING out of the closet so we ended up sleeping on the couch. Unfortunately, I was awoken in the middle of the night by roaches crawling on my face!! NOT GOOD. When the cold weather hit, we started seeing mice in our home in the NE of Philly. After trail and error with some of the 'leading' pest control companies, I was happy to find Susan's! I needed a termite inspection because my home inspector didn't do PA termite inspections. My realtor recommended Susan's Exterminating Company. I was really happy with the job they did. Susan and her partner Tom are located in Northeast Philly and they're able to come out on short notice. I was impressed by their friendly attitude and thorough inspection (they even found a dry-rotted joist that was hidden in the back of the basement), plus they were very punctual. I had a very BAD experience with this company, and I hate to trash small businesses, but even small businesses can improve. Just used SE yesterday for a mouse sighting. Bruce, who came out was a very nice guy, but a bit blundering, and when he pulled out my oven, he broke the plastic casing around the oven's outlet. Not a big deal, but he kept trying to jam the plug with the broken plastic casing back into the outlet. At one point, he yelled "Yikes" because he sparked himself. That's when he burnt out the outlet, which then shut off the power to my unit, and then, I was stuck with a mouse and no lights or electricity at all yesterday. I paid my $85 without complaint because I was not certain what happened. But when the electrician came today, he explained how Bruce shorted my outlet. Then I paid $195 to the electrician to replace my outlet. When I called Susan to tell her what the electrician told me, she was so sleazy. She kept saying over and over how we're lucky Bruce didn't die in my apt. from electrocution!! Really?!? That's when I decided I didn't want to deal with her guilt-tripping me about possibly killing Bruce yesterday. FOLLOW-UP Susan just called me after reading this review, haranguing me to give her the name and phone numbers of my Condo Assn. as well as the electrician I used--NOT because she is concerned with finding out what happened, it seems--but because she is pissed that I wrote my review and wants to drag this exchange into some prolonged battle. Big fan of Susan right here. I was in a frantic state, thinking I had bedbugs, but she talked me down of the ledge. At no financial gain to her, she recommended I do a more thorough investigation and advised me on what to look for. I even sent her an image of what I did find, which she confirmed were simply carpet beetles, and were not nearly as problematic. So I cant speak to her actual procedures, because I didn't end up needing them, but the whole experience was great - much like just talking to a relative that happened to know a lot about pests. read more

Super fast professional service as in was here the next day.The day I called Susan sent me an email explaining the step by step of what to do when getting a room ready, treating any clothing to kill the things so they wouldn't spread. I moved into my house two years ago and have had several different bugs (silverfish, centipedes, some kind of beetle, ants), but the house had been empty for months. I had to check my bathtub in the mornings for silverfish. I can pick up a snake, but bugs of ANY kind gross me out. I will freak out if a moth flies into me. I sprayed on the outside and still had smaller problems. I came home from work one day last year to a massive mound of tiny ants on my front patio, and they eventually made it into my living room. (nest was in the garden right under my front window). I used Terro and that worked, but I noticed them coming back this year. My husband did not want to get an exterminator. Well, I work up a few mornings this past week to flying black ants all over my bed. I was totally grossed out, Husband still did not want an exterminator. The straw that broke the camel's back was the morning I woke up and the window was covered in them and many ON MY BED. I couldn't even sleep in my bed. I told my husband we ARE getting an exterminator. I looked for exterminators in my zip code and Susan's came up. I read all the positive reviews and called. She gave me a quote right on the phone and sent someone out that same day. The price was fair with no contract. The tech put granules outside the whole house in the dirt, sprayed the perimeter of the house, sprayed the window where the ants were coming in, and then sprayed the inside of the entire house, even my attic. Susan did recommend having an exterminator three times a year, change of season different bugs. The tech told my husband what she did would take care of all the bugs I find. Susan was responsive however the problem was never solved. In fact, despite putting out traps, only 1 or 2 mice were caught over almost a 3 month period. We closed up holes, we moved the trashcan and we dried up the area under the sink. We followed all of the recommendations but no end to the problem. We recommend trying someone else. read more
