They didn't seem busy and the host said I should have a reservation, but sat me anyways. I was able to sit at the bar and talk to the bar tender. The cocktail menu was extensive and creative. He did a great job providing suggestions and guiding me through the food and drink menu. There card machine was down that eveing, so it was cash only. I didn't learn this until the end of the meal. I had the crispy duck bar bun, and another dish with fried beef and sweet potatoes. It was all cooked well and delicious, with great aesthetic presentation.

There were definitely alot of options of fish that were super fishy tasting, which even as an avid sashimi lover, I felt a little sick afterwards. I think I maybe just ate too much.

It was about 10-15 minutes walk from the Mariensplatz station. If we weren't walking fast for our dinner reservation, I would have took time for photo shooting as walk here was nice. They have staff speaks Japanese. Very authentic food here and Japanese people there at my table agreed how good the food was. They have sake and Japanese beer here. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of the food. Highly unlikely of me as a Yelper, but I assure you the food presentation was nice too. If you are looking for an authentic Japanese food in Munich, I highly recommend trying here. Be sure to make a reservation as they are busy on weekday night too.

We were a little bit early and the conveyor was pretty empty and, I did not see the point of having the "all you can eat" offer which, on Sundays is €18.90 plus drinks. I chose to oder from the a la carte menu. I ordered a sushi plate which had two rolls (salmon and tuna) and 6 nigiri (tuna, salmon, scallop, prawn, cuttle fish and kingfish). The miso soup was great and packed with flavour. The sushi arrived and looked well presented. However the very first one I had smelled a tiny bit and thought it was odd. I then proceeded to eat the rest and a few others also smelt a bit. The sushi was rolled poorly and packed with way too much rice that was far too sticky. It became immediately obvious that the chefs were better at thai than sushi. Needless to say I was quite disappointed. I would not come back here again for sushi. I have not been served raw fish that smells ever, and considering I ordered off the menu rather than the buffet, imagine what the running sushi is like ;-)

When I tasted one price of tuna, it was slightly rancid. I spit it out right away. I didn't complain because when they brought out the beef udon, there was no beef - I complained and she proceeds to tell me that there is beef when I dug in and searched for any sign of meat but saw none and showed her, she still insists that it was gyu udon... I'm like ok, no point complaining. Then the bill came and it was the wrong bill. I pointed it out and she immediately said this was my bill without even looking at the bill. My husband had to take over and point out everything we did not order and that's when she looked and said oh ya, it's for the wrong table. Seriously?! Because we have had such a terrible experience I had to fight for the vegetable udon and not beef udon that was given to us. She rolled her eyes at me!!! But in the end took 3 euros off. The sushi chef sensed the tension and offered my kids four lollipops which we did not take with us. Worst ever sushi experience. They were not Japanese. I can forgive the service if the food were good but it wasn't. I have myself to blame though because I broke my own rule of ordering raw fish at a restaurant that I can't trust. We were with a party of three and ordered different 'fixed plates' and all of them came with miso soup. The gyoza was nice, the dough was not too thick, slightly translucent even. I'm used to thicker dough and slightly crispy, but I think this 'thin dough' version is actually nicer. I have hardly ever been to a restaurant where the photos shown in the menu were actually good, and never where the food that was served really looked like what was shown in the picture. This was the first time that the photos looked good AND the food looked like the photos. We ordered an average of slightly more than 2 dishes each (miso soup not included) and I felt full after diner. I would say that the portion size of the fixed plates is good enough. As far as taste is concerned no complaints either. Of the three Shoya's I've been to, this would be the one worth a return visit. If you have read my review for one of the all you can eat sushi places in Amsterdam, you might know that a sushi/Japanese restaurant will score major points if the nori (the dried seaweed that goes around the rolls) is ultra fresh and crispy. Unfortunately this was not the case with the nori in our dishes today. Nori absorbs moisture like a sponge even by just being exposed to air, so you can imagine what happens when wrapping it around other foodstuffs.
