They are so close to the ocean, I was convinced it would be much fresher than anything we'd eaten in the deserts of New Mexico. On our tour of the Sandeman port wine cellars, we ran into a group that highly recommended Kanpai from a prior visit. Kanpai has a wonderful view of the Douro River. It was a 20-minute Uber ride from Sandeman. We ordered 2 porto tonicas (13 euros each), which came in generous glasses and tasted super refreshing. We ordered two of the salmon and shrimp Furai (6.90 euros each) and the sakura sashimi, a combination of 20 slices for 21 euros. The Furai Temaki wraps tasted delicious and they were generous with the salmon. Sashimi slices were large and thick, but they weren't as fresh as I expected. Service was fast, at least the wraps and drinks came out fast. Sashimi took about 15 minutes, but that's expected if they aren't pre-cut slices, which they should never be. A great view of the river, fast service, good prices, but I am subtracting one star because the sashimi didn't taste super fresh. Maybe just visited here on an off day?
