I took part in the PHP and IOP programs provided by Sutter Psychiatry in late 2025. I can not recommend these programs enough!! I was struggling and this was the perfect place to learn healthier habits and help push me on the path I wanted to be on. Every single staff member was empathetic and helpful. The food was tasty and the routine/activities were engaging. I have been participating in the PHP and IOP for about a month now and it has been life changing in the best possible way. I was really struggling with life and my doctor recommended these programs. For PHP my therapist was Stella, an incredibly warm and reliable trauma-informed therapist who helps you understand your brain and physiology, and who places an emphasis on autonomy and self compassion. My psychiatrist is Dr. Truong who focuses on the ACT modality. He cares deeply about his patients and is passionate about what he teaches. Both PHP and IOP are held in the same location/office but at different times. The office is very nice but can be a bit chilly (which I love but I've heard others struggle with it). After attending these programs you will have acquired a support network and coping skills that you can take back into life to empower you to more effectively navigate difficult life circumstances. I can't say enough good things about these programs and the staff that support them. read more

The fact that they enrolled me into this program under the guise that they understood, were flexible and would help me knowing I have literally NO SUPPORT, NO FAMILY and NO HELP and kick me out because my daughters newly hired caregivers didnt show up. No warning just too bad, so sad. And the person on the phone was curt with me and lacked care/empathy. Mind you I was enrolled for caregiver burnout, bipolar, major depression, anxiety and suicidal ideation. This has now put me in an even worse position missing work, they didnt even complete my FMLA paperwork so now I am financially struggling do to lack of pay and my job is on the line. Silly of me to have faith or hope. Silly of me to think I could actually receive help from a safe place. Definitely NOT a safe place and I should've learned a long time ago no one and no place is safe. Faith, hope and optimism are luxuries not afforded in my life. The worst place you can go for a psychological issue. For one the doctor are very helpful towards you. They did not give medication help you and give meds to hurt. The nurses staff were less than mediocre in taking care of you and will not stink up for in anyway My doctor that took care of me was completely racist and gave me bad medications. that gave me a total psychosis for the rest of my life. Friendly staff and nurses, but very poorly run and disrespectful doctors. Waited for two hours for an appt and witnessed multiple other patients rearrange schedules or have to cancel their appointments because they were SO behind. Total disrespect for the time of their patients and support persons. And the worst part? They're behind because Dr. Alami spent an hour on a personal call in the parking lot. Then he put grossly inaccurate information in the clinical notes. So disappointing and disrespectful. Their "survey" is a QR code posted on the inside of their ECT recovery rooms. I have been here 3 times in the pediatric unit. Overall, this place is nice. The cafeteria is clean, and the food isn't awful. The staff are for the most part respectful- although Nathan, the female psychiatrist, and asian lady with a bob were all disrespectful and dehumanizing to me. I loved Nosa, Leo, Angel, and most of the other staff. They showed their compassion and care for pt's in every way possible. If needed, I suggest this inpaitent psych more than others in the area if reccomended. read more

This clinic couldnt be more unprofessional. They literally just blow you off and don't return phone calls. Why are you initiating patient care and then ceasing all communication? It's bizarre. Canceled appointments, made appointments without my knowledge and then after being promised they would call me with a new appointment time nobody ever called and they ignored THREE voicemails. I was here around, February of 2026, being my third time in a place like this I didn't expect any less, the only difference was u could look out the windows, close your doors, etc but honestly I feel like that is such a safety hazard, being a "Center of psychiatry," starting off the second I got there they asked me all my personal questions in the day room where all the adolescents we're including me, making me feel uncomfortable, since the start I feel almost all of the staff had an attitude only like 2 staff where respectful and actually cared for the patients well being, the rest I felt are just there for the money. and yet they all still complained IN FRONT of the patients about their pay, even addressing it to me and some of the other adolescents. rarely any of the staff we're responsible nobody would pay attention, and I could prove it by saying at one point it was good that all of the adolescences we're either in group or in their rooms at this time because , the staff we're to busy yapping about their own problems and making a idiotic mistake by letting in an adult into the adolescents unit. after awhile things started to settle down, and then obviously me being there I had a reason just like everyone else they would call me out and make me either put a sweater on or foam covers on my wrists or "open wounds" when in reality they we're just scars, I would get it if the patients felt triggered but not one patient said that it was triggering, the staff we're just assholes, not to even begin with the psychiatrists at first I met up with a guy psychiatrists who was a complete asshole and would call me a druggie and " I have no excuse for what I do," making me feel completely shut down I felt judged everytime I opened my mouth, they would change doctors like they change underwear, there is no excuse for how they treat patients, all their rules in the unit would not be broken by the adolescents but the staff which is so irresponsible, I went through a certain part that I would like to share, I was going through a break down and I just wanted to let out some steam by talking to someone but the second I opened my mouth they right away judged and started to not only skin check me but every other patient on the unit, searching through all the rooms they find some screws missing in my room that we're already missing when I first arrived, and of course the first person to blame was me, even when I had a roommate and they only invested time to blame me, I had nothing on me and there was no proof I hadn't done anything wrong, they had me help them search the whole unit, even though I didn't do anything at this point they found nothing and they still had the blame on me and they admittedly put me on a 1 on 1 for absolutely nothing, not only that they had me separate from certain people I was close to in the unit, making me spiral I ofcourse called my other which they didn't even want to allow me to intill I told them I knew my rights and unless they wanted to be sued they should let me call my mom, and they did making matters worse i had bearly raised my voice making the staff angry because I was spitting facts they angrily called security on me saying I was being "aggresive" and started to tell me I have 30 seconds to hang up or I will be satiated, overall I would TOTALLY NOTTTT recommend if I could give a no rating I would, This place is ass don't go here. read more

They don't send you home with aftercare paperwork, lab work results or lists of medications that were prescribed. Terrible care given and no one is able to help you. I've made over 50 calls to get my questions answered. I got put on hold and the phone was disconnected. Supervisor said he couldn't help me. Got the number of Dan Peterson who is the director and I've called him several times (calling after hours) and his phone is always busy and you can't leave him a message. read more

I went to this hospital late September of 2019 through October, I was experiencing really rough post partom at 14. the staff was so amazing and friendly and I think about the experience everyday. the staff then, treated their patients like family and I felt super content there after I was better. favorite staff member there was Ulysses (Aqua man) and a few other kind staff I don't remember the names of. Overall while it is probably better than most "mental health" hospitals, it shouldn't be the standard. The meals were cold, maybe even frozen, had to ask several times for a spoon, tooth paste, they did not give all the belongings (underwear) t-shirts! Staff were not doing rounds as they ended up having a death the first day. They have a routine schedule 7 days a week and 1/2 are skipped. Drs, Social workers, front desk security guards, check in nurse and job shadowers were the best in doing their job, everyone else should get training. Super sad that most people going there are voluntarily admits and all people should be treated like a humans... mental health isn't talked about as much as it should be.. super sad read more

I've been here 6 times at various points of my life, all as an adolescent. Now at 20 years old, I can relate a huge handful of my trauma to the treatment I recieved at SCP. The first time I went, things seemed to be pretty normal and the staff actually really cared about the patients and helped us through our stay. The psychiatrists on the other hand seemed very keen on convincing my parents to send me to a long term care facility (residential) which my parents declined multiple times. I was threatened with a longer stay if I didn't abide by all of the rules, some of which involved waking up time and taking care of myself, something I was obviously struggling with as a depressed teenager. Discipline is the tactic used to scare people out of there. Once I arrived home I often felt worse than I did before going considering most of my time spent in there was being terrified of how long they would keep me. I went to the hospital again during the start of Covid in 2020. More than half the staff was sick or just didn't want to come into work, so we were severely understaffed and they were at maximum capacity. There were only 2 psychiatrists for about 14+ kids. The only word I have to describe the psychiatrist I was assigned is pure evil. He wanted to transfer me to a residential facility, just like others in the past, and he convinced my parents that I was misbehaving in the facility. Misbehaving in his eyes was me socializing with other patients. Specifically, he didn't like that I made friends with a male patient. He assumed I was trying to flirt or get a boyfriend despite me telling this professional that I was a lesbian time and time again. He decided I needed to be punished for this. The punishment was to take away my clothing and make me wear a hospital gown, take away my bed sheets and pillow case, and basically everything else I had in there, even hygiene products. On top of this a staff member was assigned to watch my every move. I was watched while I went to the bathroom, showered, and just sat in my room. I wasn't allowed to have a roommate, I wasn't allowed to socialize with any other patients, and the staff member who was glued to my side, wasn't even allowed to talk to me. I felt like a ghost. I was in complete isolation and as an already struggling teenager this pushed me to a breaking point that i'd never known before. I was pushed into a psychotic break. For the love of all things you care about, please from the bottom of my heart never ever send your kids to one of these facilities. Sutter is considered a nice facility compared to others, which boggles my mind. If your child is a danger to themselves or others, please please find any other way to support them. The things they will be exposed to in this place or others alike will traumatize them for the rest of their lives. read more

Left Summit unit last week and the ( main ) issue I had during my last stay here ( summer '18 ) has been resolved. My social worker, Evan, was fantastic, and the staff was always really nice ( minus one star for one med nurse in particular ). Spent 2 weeks here in the adolescent unit the first week was awful, I was held down by 2 male staff for no reason at all. The second week was decent they put me on a 1:1. Every 1:1 I had was great and super supportive. I kinda recommend this facility if you need help. read more

This place is probably great for a person who is a true danger to themselves and others but not good for someone who is needing help/therapy. Our 12 year old daughter mentioned suicide and our therapist recommended admitting to this center as a precaution. We were completely shocked about her feelings and thought this was the safest approach to get immediate treatment. After spending 24-hours in the ER to get "referred" to the center, she was admitted. We signed some paperwork but really didn't know what would happen next and when we would hear anything back. It's a black box. We heard from a doctor (resident) the next day who started asking if we were opposed to medication. We were very opposed to medication - she doesn't seem to have any lingering depression but will say she's depressed - a concept we think she picked up online. The doctor said she was exhibiting deep depression symptoms and medication was typically prescribed. The doctor wouldn't give any feedback on "therapy" processes, timelines, indicators of success, etc. The doctor was on a timeline and had to get off the phone so we really felt in the dark. Went for visiting hours that night and were told they started at 6:30 instead of the published 6:00. Frustrated, my wife called the nurse's station and they said that the visiting hours were, in fact, 6:00-7:00. We had already missed 30 minutes of what we thought would be a precious hour. Our daughter was significantly distant and was acting strangely. She wanted me to leave (only one parent can visit per day) and it was alarming. Apparently most of the other children were playing and she didn't want to miss play time. Her attitude made me concerned about how this program was headed. The next day, we called to see if we could talk to a doctor and the nurse said she'd have him call us. Later in the day, a social worker called to discuss our daughter. He gave very few details about any "assessment" but said she was still mentioning she had suicidal thoughts. We pressed to get some details of this assessment but really got nothing. He said she should stay several more days. We asked about outpatient care to see if we could get follow-up care recommendations and he mentioned an out-patient program. That night my wife visited my daughter and she seemed like herself. She mentioned she had one friend and he had asked her to be his girlfriend. We don't really know anything about the interaction, but our daughter said he was aggressive. This was probably not a big deal, but all the interactions were concerning to us. She (in our opinion) has mild issues but she was surrounded by many people with severe issues. We ended up pulling her out against doctors orders the next day. The staff were fairly rude to us after this - with the exception of the nurse who walked her out. I had to sign some forms and asked about the follow-up outpatient programs. The nurse realized he hadn't given me the "after visit summary" forms so he got those. It mentioned the outpatient care and he said we should call on Monday. I called today and the outpatient receptionist was very nice but said we needed to get a referral from the inpatient center and we should call the social worker back. The social worker wasn't helpful in that he said he couldn't help us since we pulled her out early. I think this center has a secretive process for treatment and if you don't give your child 100% up for the process, they get upset and won't help further. He mentioned we could come back and have her "assessed". read more

This center was recommended by my insurance because they are in network, and I verified the doctor that we were using while being treated at this location was in network, so to my surprise after the treatments I started receiving out of network doctors bills and why would a provider use out of network doctors and not tell the patients . I contacted Sutter and was shocked that they switched doctors without notifying that this happened and Sutter said that it was still my responsibility to make sure I verified the doctors. There is no way I could verify the doctors because I was never told that there was a change. Very disappointed in there responds and they were no help. Be very careful if you use this center!!! Having never dealt with anything mental health related before, I thought the staff did a good job introducing techniques, concepts, and tools to help folks learn about and live with a few mental health issues. Staff was responsive to needs and the space felt authentic enough to let a some long-standing guards down. The place almost got a 4 star because of #1 interior decoration #2 snack and lunch food #3 lack of green space #4) lack of using tech to facilitate discussions - yo, do better. read more

I found this place to have the best staff, nicest amenities, and covered all the bases including expert consultations and groups as well as ample outdoor time and freedom. The only downside was the Psychiatrist misdiagnosed me as I have taken the MMPI before and was trying to have me stay there for longer for an antipsychotic shot when the pilll equivalent made me depressed. I was happier before he messed with my meds. And please tell the grey haired angry woman that when you play a sport in socks you will slip. Yelling at them and threatening them does not change physics. I was demonstrating much more control barefooted as the feet have pores and ridges which create rip plus the muscles can engage with the friction from the epidermis. But then then again I wouldn't expect her to understand. Also, I had just had a mild heart attack and that witch made me play in a mask. she nearly killed me. Also, we were all tested prior to entry so masks don't make sense, especially outside where UV rays kill COVID. And if the gym is sanitized as they said it was then making us exercise in masks which have little breathability is a poor cost-benefit analysis. You may not lose your job but you would be sued. I almost lost consciousness and she didn't even notice except to threaten me because I didn't have my mask on. Doesn't seem very intelligent. Oh and they could use better kitchen staff who understands allergies and can follow directions. Tilapia is a poor choice...it lives off waste. The low fat diet is not good for brain health. Salmon or fish oil supplements would help a lot of people. Dairy free yogurt would've been nice, studies show a good microbiome promotes mental health. But I do understand my weird allergies are annoying. Maybe probiotics? The nurses were wonderful but some of the other staff just do not want to help. Thankfully they are just a few. Most of the time the people are fun, friendly, compassionate, and the kind of people you'd gladly be friends with on the "outside." I do wish they allowed me stronger pain meds. Tylenol doesn't help my chronic pain. And they allowed me Ambien but not Lunesta, even though lunesta is far milder. Plus they mistakenly gave me only 5mg of Ambien. In Europe the standard is 20mg. The FDA is going off of studies with clear conflict of interests and many studies that question this logic. Plus the US barely studies women compared to men. They're decades behind in many areas. But I digresss. I was there because of a loophole in the system that allows abusers to escape prosecution so I hope Sutter and the police reads this and asks themselves some serious questions. Because it happened before. I "fell" backwards about 4 feet a cut my head open. They treated me like it was a suicide attempt. I was also given no pain medication. However it was better than Kaiser by far. Kaiser ER is downright negligent and dangerous. read more

I don't normally write reviews anymore but I feel like this could actually help someone. As far as psych hospitals go in the Sacramento area, this is the better one. For context, I've been to heritage oaks and Sierra vista, both are godawful. Psych hospitals suck in general, but this one is not as terrible as the others. Pros; 1.the food. It tastes a little better than regular hospital food. Still hospital food, but they actually try. They even have a salad bar. Go figure. 2. The facility. It still is a locked facility, but it doesn't look or feel quite like a hospital, let alone a psychiatric one. It helps with the anxiety and feels more like a weird hotel than it does a lockdown facility meant to prevent you from hurting yourself or others. A+ for aesthetics, if that matters to you. 3. The staff(kinda). my social worker Kim and my nurse Kathy were gems, as were several other staff including Dr. Uddin. They treated me like a person and not a nuisance, which is a rarity (or so I've found) in the psychiatric realm. They listened to me and they supported me when I felt ready for discharge; they didn't keep me for the sake of collecting my insurance. I appreciated that. Cons; 1. The meds staff. After standing in line for 20 minutes to receive our prescribed mind-altering psychotropic medications, we were then asked "do you need anything else??" Meaning, do you want more pills? I said I couldnt sleep and they offered me an ambien when I suggested a melatonin, saying that "melatonin wasn't in my orders". Okay, but AMBIEN was?! Do you know how addictive that shit is, especially when compared to melatonin? And when they said I couldn't have melatonin and I refused the ambien, they gave me an Ativan against my better judgement. Alrighty so I get that it's a hospital and that pills are sort of their thing, but seriously, hardcore sleep aids and anti-anxiety meds were handed out like candy and it was ENCOURAGED by staff. I found this to be highly irresponsible considering how addictive ambien and chlonopin and Ativan and other benzos can be, ESPECIALLY amongst the mentally ill population who are more receptacle to addictive behaviors. I was incredibly disappointed by this and honestly, it made me feel sick to my stomach. People like myself who suffer from mental illness don't necessarily need to be fed pills to get better. Any good psychiatrist would tell you that the fewer hardcore psych pills that you're on, the better. Not okay. 2. The charge nurses. I woke up in the middle of the night to my roommate yelling slurs towards gay people in her sleep. I requested to change rooms or at least sleep in a different place that night. The nurse at the front was fine with it, but when I woke up the charge nurse (who I initially found to be kindhearted) basically chewed me out and said that we couldn't just switch rooms like that. I explained to her that I'm not straight and would really prefer not to hear the word "fa**ot" being yelled out while I'm trying to sleep. Who the hell would?? I explained this over and over and over again and she expressed no compassion or empathy towards the situation. Eventually, I would up being moved around 3 different times. It wasn't a huge deal, but I'm a little peeved that there wasn't any sensitivity towards the weird sleep-homophobia situation. Accommodate us queers, okay? Anyways, if you feel the urge to not die, Sutter psych is the better way to go if you had to choose between them and the other main ones in the area. But be weary of drug-pushing and belittling staff. Best of luck to you. read more

What a horrible facility. Unless you are truly out of your mind, Sutter Center for Psychiatry is the LAST place you want to be. The staff was rude, and the psychiatrists only see you for a few minutes per day, and are in a big rush. The food was okay, but not filling. They put me in a room with a VERY heavy snorer, so my sleep was awful. The place was way too warm, so I guess they turn the A/C up to save on money. The drier didn't dry properly, so your clothes were still damp. If you feel bad before you go to this madhouse, you'll feel better when you finally leave. read more

I was having a tough time and sent here. This concerns the "Summit" Unit, specifically. The medication nurses have zero sense of urgency so you can literally stand in line for 40 minutes waiting for medication. Especially the older, short, heavier white lady. There was also a shorter, middle-aged white lady nurse who had dark crimson hair who was actually the *opposite* of empathetic, and would make snarky remarks and display an unprofessional attitude. A RN literally offered Scotch Tape to secure a bandage. Then when told that's not medical tape for skin, they produced a roll of PACKING TAPE. As in the fat roll of clear tape on the red dispenser!! That is the level of care you will receive there. Zero RNs knew how to change a bandage on a finger, nor how to apply a splint to one. They also do not acknowledge patients who come to the nurse's station until you literally grunt or loudly ask for help. Even the RN assigned to me would do it. There were only 2 RNs there that seemed to know what they were doing clinically. Dr. Catapano would loudly discuss patient health information in the common areas, and he did so without obtaining permission. How do I know? I was sitting on the sofa next to the person whose lab results and screenings he was announcing. The same doctor also squeezed the shit out of my wife's broken finger and asked "Does that hurt?" to see if she was being truthful. Turned out she had a comminuted fracture and her fingertip was broken into 3 pieces. He denied remembering my wife, and when told about what he did to her (cause extreme and lasting pain) he tried to deny he hurt her. After denying remembering her. There is a horrid lack of environmental services as well. From air-conditioning not working in 2/3 of the building during my stay, to a repulsive amount of detritus and dust underneath furniture. There was literally over an inch of dust accumulated the entire time I was there. I had even told the manager whose office is next to the Social Workers about it, she acknowledged what I said by thanking me for bringing it to her attention and it was still there 6 weeks later when I visited a family member! Bruce was cool. The guy deserves a raise. I did not see a doctor over a course of 3 days when the standard is to be seen daily during the week and once over weekends. (Fri-Sun didn't see anyone, discharged Monday and he only came by for 4 minutes to spring a diagnosis on me then left).This facility is literally only ok for keeping you from killing yourself, but even then it would not be very hard to do so in the facility due to the lack of nursing observation. In my opinion, you would be better served staying with a very close friend or family member than you would here. I guarantee it. The only reason I gave it two stars is because they've got a fridge stocked with a small amount of snacks (string cheese, OJ, milk, etc) that are available 24/7, and I like my fat snacks. read more

I've had really severe bipolar disorder for 8 years. I had mixed states, extreme anxiety and depression. I stayed in the inpatient unit for 2 weeks. The staff was wonderful. The psychiatrist assigned to me was a kind, competent doctor. My depression got so bad I signed up for the ECT treatment program. When I first entered the treatment room, there was Dr. Goodman, the head of the ECT program, smiling and greeting me. He is a kind, compassionate man, and a great doctor. After my second treatment, It felt a switch flip in my head. Within a few days I realized my depression was gone! Not reduced, gone! My old energy came back. I am enthusiastic. It's been so long since I felt enthusiastic, I almost didn't remember what it felt like. Thank you Dr. Goodman. After about 4 1/2 months the depression is starting to creep back in. It's not nearly as bad as it was. I read 50% of people that are helped with ECT, the depression comes back. 11.10.19 After about six months now, I'm feeling good. I was premature with my last update. I still have a ton of energy. That is fantastic! I love being enthusiastic! read more

I never write reviews, but I feel like this one is worth writing. I'm surprised to see all of the negative reviews people have been writing honestly. But everyone's experiences are different. However, I have been hospitalized several times due to Major Depressive Disorder, PTSD, and suicidal thoughts/attempts at a couple of different facilities. And I have to say Sutter by far is the best one that I've been to. Whenever I get into a situation that requires me to be hospitalized, I always hope and pray that Sutter is the one I have to go to. The food is pretty good and the groups can be helpful, though sometimes they feel a little superficial and the stuff they say feels kind of obvious. I feel like this place is mostly just to keep you safe, but if you really want to work through your issues, going to therapy would probably be your best bet. But anyway I would have to say the best part about this place is the staff. Most of the nurses are so compassionate and empathetic. They really care. Jenny (J I think? Lol. There are a lot of Jenny's so I don't know for sure if that was the one) was my favorite. She is funny and very sweet. Bruce is great. He makes groups fun. The psychiatrists I've had were great. Love Dr. Uddin. He's pretty goofy, but he's also a good listener and he's very kind and cool. Dr. Goodman does my ECT and is also great. He's very nice. And the nurses in the recovery room for ECT are also very nice. Betty is my favorite. She's so sweet and she's hilarious. And you can see how much she cares. Jen is also awesome. Anyway, if you are considering checking yourself into a hospital because you're feeling unsafe, I definitely feel like this is the one to do it at. (: read more

I was involuntarily hospitalized after going to the er to get stitches for a self inflicted cut. it wasn't a suicide attempt, and it couldnt have been accidentally fatal. ended up in this shithole for 3 days. being a teenager, i was put in the adolescent ward. i started crying after being shown to my room, so they dumped me in the seclusion room for like an hour. i wasnt hurting myself, others, or even damaging property. i was simply crying. there were no attempts to communicate with me, no patience, they just immediately locked me in there. they essentially punished me for,,, having emotions..? this led me to biting myself in order to suppress my tears, in order to avoid punishment. my hands are severely scarred now. the medical attention they gave to my wounds was laughable. the nurses couldnt tell the difference between cuts and scars, and literally rubbed neosporin up my entire uninjured arm. they also didnt care for my bites at all, which is quite dangerous given how infection prone bites are. especially since my mouth was probably extra dirty, as they took my toothbrush and toothpaste. dont come here for help with a self harm problem, you will probably just end up with an infection. also, dont come here if you have sensory issues related to sound. i have both autism and misophonia, and as a result i am very sensitive to sound. it was so loud. the building is designed in a way that causes every single little sound to be echoed and amplified. even a person without sensory issues would dislike it, but for someone like me, it was torture. i had to wear earplugs 24/7, and as a result, could not communicate with the other patients. communicating through writing was not allowed, so i was completely isolated. place was pretty filthy. garbage, dirt, debris on the floor, etc. showers flooded, they barely cleaned rooms between patients. one time in group, staff member was giving instructions on covid safety, he decided to given an example of what not to do. dude literally pulls his mask down, and begins talking loudly into the kid next to hims face, saying stuff like "doing this is NOT allowed." glad to know they take covid safety seriously! the extent of help i got was a psychiatrist pointed at the bite marks on my hands, saying "have you considered not doing that? its self injury." group therapy was just an instant anxiety attack for me, so i avoided it, but the times i did go i learned many important and helpful things. we watched a video on meth addiction, and i found it very helpful in recovering from my non-existent meth addiction. staff were either condescending and dismissive, or extremely rude. a member of the staff yelled at me until i left my room to go to group, where he then insulted me and made an example of me in front of the other patients. i was called a baby for sleeping too much. he then proceeded to take out his phone and play the song dont worry be happy. my depression was immediately cured. due to my anxiety, i cant pee when i am uncomfortable or anxious. i was here for 3 days. i peed twice. i begged the nurses to give me something to help me relax, or even give me a catheter if that didnt work. they just told me about the dangers of utis, as if i was intentionally holding it. i was not. they also forced me to drink extra water. this resulted in pretty severe pain, and heightened anxiety. i feared for my health. this was the most scared, sad, and frustrated ive ever been in my life. i felt dehumanized. my worldview and self esteem have gotten more negative. my self harm has gotten worse. my nightmares have gotten worse. i will no longer go to the er for medical attention regarding my self harm because of this. my therapist believes it was traumatic. please, try anything else before coming here. food was decent tho. read more

If you're reading this, you're probably not in a great place mentally or emotionally right now. Our experience here is just beginning but I can already tell that these people care. I feel that my daughter is in good hands and she'll be getting more help than I can provide. We all need help sometimes and this place is providing what we need without treating any of us like we're idiots or we've done something wrong. Nearly everyone at the Center (inpatient facility) was helpful, kind and caring. There is one nurse in the adolescent unit that could use an attitude adjustment and that's been brought to the attention of the management. I don't know that it's possible to have a "good" experience at a place like this but the staff did make it a less scary time than it could have been. read more

My daughter was voluntarily admitted for a 72 hour hold which began at the ER. Just about every person we talked with at Sutter was very helpful, professional and pleasant to deal with. The facility was clean and seemed well organized. My daughter never had any prior incidents but a 72 hour hold was recommended by the ER. Being new to this we were concerned that maybe they would keep her longer because they had the power to do so. There was another review that sort of accused the facility of doing things like that. One day before the end of the 72 hour period I got a call from my daughters therapist at Sutter (Jessica) who basically said "She's ready to go and there's no value in keeping her here until tomorrow". Dr. Goodman and his staff are wonderful - My son has dealt with depression and anxiety for about 10 years. He has seen several counselors, psychiatrists, mental health nurse practitioners and been on nine different medications. Nothing seemed to be working for him. We finally found Dr. Goodman at Sutter - This has been a life changer for my son and for our family. Dr. Goodman works with the ECT patients. This was a big step, but has given my son back his life. Dr. Goodman is extremely knowledgeable. He correctly diagnosed my son and is treating him accordingly - He is kind and compassionate. He makes certain all our questions are answered. He is thorough. Worst facility. Receptionist is rude. She acts as if everyone is a burden to her. We're here to visit a family member in need and her attitude doesn't help whatsoever. She's not helpful AT ALL. read more

My son received good care, but I have not received records requested 10 weeks ago. Phone number for records is either busy or rings endlessly without being answered. There does not seem to be a voicemail option. Others have reported identical problems to me. Posting this in hope someone from SCP will respond. read more

I'm not sure what others experiences are here but I can tell you from experiences that this is by far and away the best mental health facility that Sacramento has to offer. Sierra Vista and Heritage Oaks DONT have a leg to stand on. Don't even consider the county options unless you are going to be able to smoke while getting treatment. Those are totally a waste of time. I am one of the many unlucky ones in the world that suffer from Bipolar Disorder and I have been to this facility over ten times. As you can tell I'm not someone who ignorant people think is "crazy". Social stigmas's are simply that of others who don't have ANY KNOWLEDGE at all. Anyway, the staff here does an excellent job except for the graveyard receptionist. If they could find someone else who is forced to work that shift they would become a much finer institution. The director is awesome and she works her butt off. An elderly women who does the best she can with the resources she has available. I don't normally mention names in these kind of reviews but Sutter Psych should seriously be thinking about giving Bruce a raise. If not, Sierra Vista and Heritage Oaks should snatch him up real quick. You will NOT find a better employee in the State of California! I've hired hundreds of people in my life and I have NEVER hired anyone like him. Caring is a major under statement when it comes to him. BAD SIDE: I don't usually edit my reviews but I just looked at another reviewers note and I have to add. DR GOODMAN IS A JOKE! The "Dr" diagnosed my condition without even meeting me. We spoke for 5 minutes and he came up with the craziest thing. I've suffered from Bipolar Disorder since I was born. This joker came up with me having an Opiod-Induced Disorder. Is that even a real thing or is the Dr playing with opiates himself. Pretty sure he was part of the crew that developed DSM-5. WOW!!! read more

I was a mess when I checked myself in this place. They made me feel welcomed and at home. Most everyone was top notch, food was great. My dr was Dr Arif and he helped me with medications and they worked great. After a week in the facility I went home. Did the 6 week outpatient program afterwards afterward learned what I need to deal with problems. If you need help mentally, this is the place. read more

The best psych facility in the Sacramento area hands down.

My partner was placed there on a 51/50 that got extended, which is what he needed. He has Bipolar I with psychotic features and schitzoaffective disorder. He rotated between 2 doctors, one of which put him on Antidepressants rather than anti psychotics. 2 days after putting him on Antidepressants (which cause mania in Bipolar I) they then released him. Effectively turning him into a ticking time bomb and releasing into a highly populated area. All I have to say is, either Muhammed Zafar Uddin, MD, or Jeffrey Gerstein, MD need to go back to refresher med school. What they did was dangerous and irresponsible. read more
