My kids loved their children's area and I felt safe leaving them there with their sign in/out process. Pastor Al had a way with his words that makes scripture easier to understand. I liked all his stories he added into his sermon. Since then I have seen a few other pastors and I have loved them all. I will now be a regular at New Hope. If you are looking for a new Christian Church that makes you feel at home you should check them out. This is the first and oldest Serbian Church in the United States and Canada. The construction of the church started early in 1894. The church bell was presented to the church by the Russian Bishop, the Rt. Reverend Nikola. This church sure stands out. A few years ago my mom was visiting me and we saw the church from the street above and we were determined to find it. This is one gem you won't want to miss. I've taken the kids here a few times now. Within its time many events have happened. Many loved ones have died. Many loved ones have been born. What an absolute gem of a little church we have in Jackson, the tiny Serbian Orhtodox church, atop…read morea pristine, elaborate graveyard in front; and the paintings on the interior have to be seen to be believed. Best time to do this is at their vespers service. No, I'm not Serbian, and certainly not orthodox, but this place is just unbelievable. It's a little known fact that this is the very first church of its kind in America, built in the early 1890's.....the mother church for that faith, and it's a stunner, and a visual standout as you come over the hill to descend into the town of Jackson and look slightly to the left. (Jackson was also home to the first synagog in California, right around the corner, at what is now the elementary school. )They also have the St. Sava Serbian mission campgrounds on the other side of town where Serbs gather every year over 4th of July weekend for an annual event that's fun and has real cultural significance.

Nice warm welcome. + I loved to see a wide range of demographics from toddlers to the seniors and plenty of younger families. + Nice worship with most of the songs focused on who God is and maybe one song focused on us, as His children. + Solid theological teaching from the associate pastor (Sr. pastor is in recovery for his health). The sermon was clear, logically interpreted using other Scripture (no complex, vague method of interpreting the verses), relatable examples/stories, and I always appreciate looking at the actual Greek word used as that could change the understanding for use using English only. Great visit. We look forward to meeting this body of believers again in this life or the next.
