Relating to the theatre venue itself, I was stunned by the lighting, special effects and sound technology. The show itself was fantastic, but was made better by the SRT acoustics and lighting. With so many theaters around the Suzanne Roberts Theater may be mistakingly overlooked. I have been to several well acted, professional and enjoyable performances here over the years. The type of performances vary from dramatic, comedy, musical and better yet local playwrights. Every seat is a 'good seat' all at a very affordable price. The Suzanne Roberts Theater is nicely situated on South Broad street close to public transportation and a better chance of street parking vs other theaters in the area. This theater is extremely clean, with comfortable seats and a friendly staff. Additionally the drinks are sold at fair market. No overpriced wine or beer here. My first time in this beautiful theater! The theater is located on the first floor of The Symphony House building. It has a modern facade. The lobby is large with a sitting area, concession stand and coat racks. It was clean! The bathrooms were also clean. There were about 10 stalls but the line was still long. The staff were helpful in finding our seats. Picking up tickets at Will Call was easy. The theater has two levels. The seats were comfortable with some leg room. I really enjoyed the Philadelphia Theatre Company and I'm so glad Yelp brought me here to experience an excellent theatrical experience. It was awesome to attend the opening night of the Pulitzer Prize winning stage play, "Sweat." I loved the set (really captured the essence of a neighborhood bar where regulars gather) and the acting was great. The plot was politically relevant and presented current social implications. The audio and lighting was good, and as far as I can presume, it seemed like there wasn't a seat in the theater that wasn't good and we sat in the mezzanine area. I also like the design leading into the theater. After the show, there were collations which added a nice touch to celebrate the opening night! After visiting a few theaters in Philadelphia, I'm glad to have visited here because I really would like to attend more shows! read more

Came here thanks to Yelp and had an amazing time with my guy friend who I've been dating for a few months. First time being at this theatre company but I enjoyed myself. When we first got our tickets we went to go find our seats- but noticed the seats weren't together so if we sat and watched it we'd be sitting away from each other which I wasn't going to be happy about since it was a date night for us. So my date mentioned maybe going back to see if we could get the seats switched so we are together. The staff were really friendly and helpful and ended up getting us seats on the 1st floor next to each other- and we had a seat where we could see everything up close. I was so happy they were very accommodating to us. As we walked in to give our tickets to the ushers, there was a bar and snack area to the left and they had live music playing. It was a really nice place, sorta fancy and was a mix crowd of people of all ages and races. We were helped to our seats and waited quite a bit of time for the show to start. The show was supposed to start at 7 but didn't start until about 20 minutes after 7, which I was a bit annoyed by- cause I was on a time crunch since I had a sitter for my daughter- but I soon was happy when the stage lit up and the acting begun. The story line and actors were great and I especially enjoyed the music- which to me was the best part of the show. They really pack you in the theatre- and you don't have much leg room on the bottom level which was a bit uncomfortable for me to sit in- but I was so glad there was an intermission that gave me a chance to stretch a bit until the last parts play. I really enjoyed this story and love that they used characters that are often overlooked in society and in films- the LGBTQ ‍ population. I loved seeing two women being able to express their love in a play- and seeing how they showed two scenes at once showing flashbacks about how different the world is now compared to that of the 1960's. If you are for equal rights of all people and especially for our LGBTQ people, I'd suggest seeing this play. There was some hot and steamy scenes of women kissing and touching, so if that isn't your cup of tea--- this isn't a show for you. Overall I enjoyed myself and I am happy and grateful that I had a chance to experience this show. Thanks Yelp! This theatre is located right in the heart of beautiful downtown Philadelphia! The staff here are really nice. Everyone is friendly and there to help you out. Vince, Margo, and Matt are all very professional and they manage the teams to craft amazing experiences inside the theatre. I have the privilege of working with these teams weekly as we operate as a church location out of here on Sundays. The technology is all really nice- there has been a revamp to the sound system and they recently have a new projector which will take all of the shows and future movies to the next level. Keep love theatre and art alive, grab some tickets to the next production and head into this beautiful theatre to see a show! There is not a bad seat in the house so don't worry about sitting up in the balcony- it looks great from up there. Suzanne Robert's Theater is a good small and modern theater. Seats are comfy and there truly isn't a bad seat in the house. They have a nice little bar where you can purchase drinks and snacks and prices aren't exorbitant. Great place to see local and national plays at an affordable price. read more

The only reason this isn't a 5-star review is that I have to leave room services I didn't utilize (bar) due to time constraints. I hope to attend shows here in the future that will enable me to update this review. Neither myself nor my aunt had ever been to this theater before. We both found it very well put together. It is a significantly more intimate theater than others in the area, but still very comfortable. Further, I doubt there's a bad seat in the house. We sat in the mezzanine level a few rows from the wall and still felt close to the stage to see everything. The theater itself looks updated and fresh; the seats were comfortable and clean while the walls looked new and modern. I'm looking into becoming a subscriber knowing that I can enjoy interesting shows at half the price of nearby theaters. read more

Last night I visited this theater for the first time, to see a speaker sponsored by WHYY. Though I've driven by many times, I'd never before had occasion to stop inside. The theater is small, but that means there's not a bad seat in the house - we had a perfect view from the balcony but could have sat anywhere and still had a clear view of the stage. I also thought the seats were quite comfortable, especially in comparison to Philly's older (and very narrow seated) theaters. The staff was friendly, the bar was well stocked, and there was plenty of benches for seating in the first and second floor lobbies before the show started. There's also a convenient coat rack, which means you don't have to keep bulky winter jackets in the seat with you. read more

We recently viewed the "Outgoing Tide" which was well done and a great topic. The seats are comfortable and the people are extremely helpful and pleasant. Last night I had the pleasure of seeing The Scottsboro Boys presented by Philadelphia Theatre Company at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre. First of all, the show was fantastic!!! If it is still playing when you read this go check it out! It features some Philadelphia favorites as well as the bulk of the Broadway cast. It was the first thing I saw at Suzanne Roberts, personally opting more often for the smaller and more local productions around the area by companies like InterAct. My commitment to local works and the PTC price points (up to $70 for some performances) have always deterred me but I definitely enjoyed my time and will be trying to go back for Reasons to Be Pretty later in the season. Now for the space itself. If you are unfamiliar, the Suzanne Roberts is a more traditional theater space than many Philadelphia venues like the Adrienne Theatre or Christ's Church, and from the moment you enter it has a very different and far more commercial feel, that is not a criticism but worth noting as you might want to dress up just a little more when attending a show here. Ultimately, the venue is beautiful and well-kept and I absolutely agree that there doesn't seem to be a bad seat in the house. There is a complimentary coat check in the lobby which I highly recommend as the seats are not all that spacious, and a nice lineup of concessions for your eating and drinking pleasure. The seats are not super comfortable in my opinion and I found myself needing to adjust my sit a number of times during the performance which I'm sure was annoying to those around me. read more

Amazing venue right on Broad Street. Came here on opening night of Bridges of Madison County and loved it. They had a bar and some light food afterwards as well. The venue does not fit an excessive amount of people so it felt very cozy. Park right across the street in the ABM parking lot for $11 for 5 hours! read more

Came here last night to see a comedy show. It was a great little theater. They were comfortable seats good snacks and they even hosted a happy hour after the show. Most important it was clean and updated. Did not seem old and run down like some theaters in philly. For those coming from out of town there was parking right across the street too. read more

A lovely, medium-sized, well-priced theatre with easy access on Broad Street via public transportation and with parking lots and garages nearby for parking. I just saw Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike and it is a great play; the cast is phenomenal. Also, I recommend the drinks based on the characters, especially the Vanya. I have seen two plays here and both were top notch. A smaller intimate theater that doesn't have a bad seat in the house. It is well taken care of with a wonderful foyer and great seats in the venue. Suzanne Roberts Theater always has a great array of shows and acts that are moving and/or comedic. I appreciate the high quality play with a laid back attitude. This theater is the home of the Philadelphia Theatre Company, which has a separate set of reviews. So here I am just reviewing the physical space and the staff running it. The space still feels new, even though it's been around for a few years now. We had balcony seats when we were subscribers and we liked them a lot. Recently, I've been on the main floor and can confirm that there isn't a bad seat in the house. The concession stand has a pleasant selection of choices and is open early enough that you can enjoy your wine or beverage before the play if you want to. If you don't finish it, you can take it into the theater. The box office staff is super efficient and helpful. I've never had a problem picking up tickets and I've been there more than a dozen times. The plays at this theater are always excellent. See my separate review of PTC. If I hadn't gotten a job that took me out of town for a year, we'd probably still be subscribers. This is our favorite theater in Philadelphia. read more

We just visited this theater for the first time to see a Philly Live Arts show. The theater is a great size - as someone else pointed out, there are no bad seats. It seemed very nice and new. The concessions are reasonably priced and you can take drinks into the theater with you, which I liked. The seats were comfortable and I had plenty of leg room. The acoustics were excellent. This is a really nice theater. Their first success is keeping their enormous sign from falling to the ground (though I am still wary about walking underneath it.) The lobby waiting area is comfortable and well-spaced out, with complimentary coat check before the show. The theater itself is smaller than I expected (seats around 350), and everything looks very new. The seats were nice and squishy and there was plenty of leg room, plus, the orchestra section is small enough that every seat has an excellent view of the stage. The theatre itself is clean, comfortable, well designed. Wish I could say something good about the performance. Awful, abysmal, depressing. The well appointed theatre became a prison till the end of the show. We saw Bob Garfield in his one man show "Ruggedly Jewish." Basically a soapbox for this guy's inflated ego and bitter condescension. Horrible horrible. Exceedingly unfunny. This was his premier. Our only hope is that it was also closing night. read more
