We saw Israel's Inbal Pinto & Avshalom Pollak Dance Company perform Oyster here last month and we were quite pleased with the clean, (albeit dated) contemporary and spacious setting. The Annenberg Center is located across the street from Pod restaurant and public parking, so getting out to Philly for dinner and a show is quite convenient. I like to think that I am a Tim Burton follower and this performance was intended to mimic his expression and style. The production was indistinct and gritty which I typically enjoy but the cast seemed to work so hard at making this show weird that sadly, it wasn't weird anymore; just confusing but still an enjoyable event.

Staff was friendly and on point from beginning to end. They do take the dress code seriously, I saw people get turned away for athletic wear. It's clear on their website and not asking too much for an upscale night out. Prices weren't ridiculous, especially since portions were plentiful. A lot of people were leaving with leftovers. The specialty drinks are a bit pricey tho. The cornbread and Mac n cheese are a must order the moment you sit down to start things off. Both served in a small skillet, perfect to share. The cornbread bread was flavorful and the butter that comes on top you def want to let that melt right in! The Mac n cheese noodles were a little softer than I would of preferred but the blend of cheeses and the crisp crust on top made me not worry about the doneness of the noodles, it was top notch! We went classic with the entrees - catfish with gulf shrimp. The catfish was cooked perfect super tender and flaky. I wasn't thrilled with the shrimp, for "gulf shrimp" as they listed in the menu they were a lot Smaller than I expected and a little tough. The sauce they came in was nice. I would have liked some kind of sauce on the side for the catfish. The collard green rice was delicious and the broccoli that came with it was prob the most delicious broccoli I've ever had, just cooked well in lots of butter! The other entree we got was the fried chicken. Really delicious and tender. It came with a sweet potato side that was yummy and a classic collard greens Even tho we were stuffed we had to try the bread pudding, it was served with a Side of delicious ice cream. The bread pudding was perfect! I would definitely return even just to eat and try more menu items but the jazz club is a must do! Beautifully decorated and classy establishment all around

I've gone to the bar on multiple occasions to get just cornbread and an entree to go as well as when I have had reservations to dine in, I've seen people come in, just go to the bar and order take out. I'm really disappointed at this experience and it seems like every time I go to South, It's a different experience and a different enforcement of rules.

What can be said about the WOL Jazz Festival except that I love it so and can't wait for it to come…read morearound each year. It's held in June and it's basically your typical outdoor festival with vendors both food and crafts per se. As well as artists coupled with 4 stages of music for three days. But also at this festival is an Arts Pavillion, where some well known artists in the business gives insight to those visiting the pavillion. Art Noir feature poetry slams as well during the festival. AND it primarily features local jazz artist along with "big name" artists. I put that in quotes in hopes of not downplaying the locally gifted. It gets crowded but still (for now) fairly comfortable and the crowds each year is always pleasant no matter how packed it gets. The kicker for me is it's in my back yard! I can come and go as much as I please and avoid the traffic of traveling home when it's over. And the beauty of it is, for those that do not live in the area, there are free shuttle buses that can also take you to and fro as you please oppose to having to stay so you don't lose your space or what have you. It also highlights all of the beautiful things going on in the commnity rather it's new business or the work being done via OARC. Some of my favorite acts that I checked out this year was Kevin Eubanks, Jeff Bradshaw's Brass Heaven and an African dance troupe who's name I cannot recall at the moment, among others.
