I wish we did…read more Probably the best way to see the park is to stay at the several lodges rather than commute from Whitefish or other areas. I heard the lodges fill up fast and are very expensive however. This historic hotel is quite incredible from the architecture to the settling right on the lake. It might be expensive but the time savings on being able to start hikes right from the hotel may be worth it. For people like us who did not stay overnight you can enjoy the hotel common areas and restaurants. However unfortunately no WiFi unless you are guests. And they need to install benches outside where you wait for the shuttle.

Note that there is thin walls so we were offered earplugs from the hotel. Hotel amenities also include e-bikes, hiking gear, bear spray to borrow, etc which was really a nice bonus. There is a very old cool elevator operated by staff for luggage and those who can't walk stairs.

It sits on a mountain top overlooking Upper Waterton Lake. The lobby and outdoor seating, that overlook the lake are open to the public. There was a boy about 12 years old who was playing the piano in the upstairs lobby which was a treat, he was very talented. There was parking at the top of hill with a short stroll down to the lodge. Of course there was a gift shop and bathrooms avaliable to the public. Lovely space worth seeing.

Webcams showed eastern Glacier National Park in heavy smoke. I am 62 with a "compromised" respiratory system. We were hoping to get some clean clear air on this trip but the Howe Ridge wildfire around Lake McDonald in GNP destroyed our hope. We contacted the managers of Glacier Trailhead Cabins and explained our situation. The person on the phone agreed to cancel our $95 reservation but charged us $50 as a cancellation fee. Now I know that some people cause inconvenience and loss of revenue because they're flaky about reservations. But this was not due to my wrongdoing, but to Mother Nature herself. The wildfire made the air quality unhealthy there and I am fined for that? Isn't that really a business risk of the motel owners? Beware that you will be fined for canceling reservations that are caused by natural disasters within Glacier National Park.

There was a GREAT dinner and a PHENOMENAL mucosal experience! There was a variety of salads and vegetables to accompany two protein entrees and a nice dessert all prepared by a top notch chef and his staff. We were greater at the door by Trevor, the owner/operator, who was later one of four outstanding musicians and vocalists. He was extremely cordial and welcoming, helping our 93 year-old Mom to a seat. We were early, but he took us in anyway. We watched as the hall began filling with excited patrons, and soon Trevor's wife, Candy, another great performer, joined in greeting folks and getting things going. The dinner was served buffet style and we were encouraged to eat hearty. "House rules require men to have two plates full and women have the same option." After dinner, a very nice dessert was brought to the tables by Candy and their son, Ronan,, who was also a multi-talented musician and vocalist. Then the show began... The show featured songs by numerous well known musical stars and groups, professionally presented with the request for the audience to sing along if they knew the words ( or to hum if they didn't). The 90 minutes flew by with everyone having a rousing, great time with songs they could recognize and enjoy. Trevor introduced a new member to the team of performers, Paisley, who was a very talented, young performer, harmonizing or soloing with flair, or playing an instrument as needed. WHAT A FABULOUS TEAM! We hesitated to drive those back road for 45 minutes from town to find the site. We were not familiar with the area. The route was very comfortable and easy to follow, and after such a TRULY WONDERFUL EVENING, the return route flew by. We were still singing all the way back to town. I would encourage EVERYONE who wants a first class evening in the area to call, reserve a spot, and spend time with Trevor and his family. There is an RV park there, but we did not check that out. We did find that there was a price reduction for patrons over 65, but we did not need to ask about children in our case. WELL DONE, Great Canadian Barn Dance musical team - oh, and food service team, too.

I've never been to anything like this, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. We were in a large room with a stage at the front, and rows of tables (many of which were reserved, so I could tell this was a popular show). When it was time for dinner, we were called up by table to choose from a nice selection of roast beef, pastas, salads, vegetables and other yummy stuff. Once we were done with dinner, we all got a little white chocolate cheesecake dessert, which was delicious! When the food is out of the way, the music show begins. It's a family band of multi-talented people, sort of like a Mormon Partridge Family! They played a selection of Country and Folk songs all with a story behind them. The show lasted about 90 mins and then we all went home. What a great night hosted by a wonderful family. They have a music camp and support youth learning to play instruments, so that is definitely something I think is important. Great place - visit if you can!

Stayed in the Bear Mountain Motel for two nights in the middle of August for my anniversary trip…read more Everything else in Waterton was significantly more expensive (almost twice as much), so we booked this motel based mostly on price ($114/night including all tax). Happily, we ended up having quite a good stay. Room was bigger than expected, with room to walk around. Queen sized bed was a little bit hard for my liking. There was a desk and TV in the room. No mini fridge or anything like that. The bathroom was pretty small but not too cramped. Biggest downside was no AC, only a fan. Keep the blinds closed during the day and that will help a lot. We really liked how each room had a parking stall assigned right in front of their room. Super convenient! There is an ice machine and a BBQ for everyone to use. Also liked how there are two chairs outside of each room, and a few more chairs and rocking chairs at the front of the property. Staff were nice each time we dealt with them (check in and check out as well as when we had questions). Waterton is a tiny town, so every hotel is centrally located. If value is important to you, I highly recommend the Bear Mountain Motel.

The food was well-prepared, but not super exciting, appropriate for the clientele. My favorite dish was the baked potato soup, a reconstructed scallion, bacon, potato gem. I think the takeaway is that you would not ever be disappointed by a meal here. The view is beautiful, highlighting the west face of the original lodge, and a part of the bay.
