It sits on a mountain top overlooking Upper Waterton Lake. The lobby and outdoor seating, that overlook the lake are open to the public. There was a boy about 12 years old who was playing the piano in the upstairs lobby which was a treat, he was very talented. There was parking at the top of hill with a short stroll down to the lodge. Of course there was a gift shop and bathrooms avaliable to the public. Lovely space worth seeing.

We had our own bathroom and shower which was great! There was ice available at the registration across the parking lot as well as Two Dog Flats restaurant which we ate at a few times. WiFi was very limited only in registration area and restaurant it still was very sketchy. No tv in room but this is pretty standard for the NP. There was a lovely porch area in front of the hotel. We sat out there quite a few times just enjoying the view. The setting is so lovely mountains around us. There is a campground available if you are into that. Me I camp in hotels!! we were pleasantly pleased with our stay.

She made mention that it was locally owned, AND it was the only one of the 3 restaurants she named which was open before 4pm, which is when we were there, so we trekked on over. We arrived behind a large party of about 8 people and were the only other table in the restaurant. They - or should I say he - took our order quickly and were willing to accommodate a special request (to have a breakfast dish after their stated cutoff time due to a wheat allergy; almost everything on the lunch menu is breaded/fried, so I couldn't eat it). It was clearly Native-owned, which I was happy to support. However, the poor guy who took our order was the only one in the place. He was doing everything: stocking, cleaning, taking orders, cooking. We were there for nearly an hour when the other party's food came out. By this point, we had figured out that he was flying solo, so we were sort of hoping our food would come out at the same time. It didn't. We asked if ours had been started yet, and it hadn't. Seeing that we were staying 3 hours from the park, we had to leave to meet up with our family without having any lunch. This could easily have been avoided with a little communication from the get-go: "Hey, a large party just came in ahead of you. Just so you know, it's probably going to be an hour or more before you see any food." We would have left then and had time to get lunch before starting our drive back to Augusta. As it was, we paid for our 1 drink, made do with whatever snacks we had, and hit the road. Can't comment on the food and the guy was super nice, so I hate to leave a not-great review, but I can't imagine what would have happened if 2 or more of the parties from our boat ride had arrived at the same time we had. We made a reservation in April of 2018 for a night in August. Come August, as most people know,…read morewestern Glacier National Park was on fire, closed, and everyone there evacuated. Webcams showed eastern Glacier National Park in heavy smoke. I am 62 with a "compromised" respiratory system. We were hoping to get some clean clear air on this trip but the Howe Ridge wildfire around Lake McDonald in GNP destroyed our hope. We contacted the managers of Glacier Trailhead Cabins and explained our situation. The person on the phone agreed to cancel our $95 reservation but charged us $50 as a cancellation fee. Now I know that some people cause inconvenience and loss of revenue because they're flaky about reservations. But this was not due to my wrongdoing, but to Mother Nature herself. The wildfire made the air quality unhealthy there and I am fined for that? Isn't that really a business risk of the motel owners? Beware that you will be fined for canceling reservations that are caused by natural disasters within Glacier National Park.

I wish we did…read more Probably the best way to see the park is to stay at the several lodges rather than commute from Whitefish or other areas. I heard the lodges fill up fast and are very expensive however. This historic hotel is quite incredible from the architecture to the settling right on the lake. It might be expensive but the time savings on being able to start hikes right from the hotel may be worth it. For people like us who did not stay overnight you can enjoy the hotel common areas and restaurants. However unfortunately no WiFi unless you are guests. And they need to install benches outside where you wait for the shuttle.

The rooms were so small I had to go outside to change my mind. It's an old joke and particularly…read moreapt in this case. If you think youth hostile then it might meet your expectations. In addition to the small rooms you get access to the shared shower, toilet, and sink rooms. There are two of each, also small, located in the center of the hall. The hot water was limited and when present was difficult to adjust. Expect showers to be cold or scalding. And whatever you do, don't get stuck with room #6. That's the one that shares a wall with both toilet rooms had there's no telling what sensory experiences you might enjoy at any hour of the day or night. The furnishings in the rooms and common areas were... shoddy. The beds were uncomfortable with well-used spring mattresses. Any noise from the kitchen and bar areas below carried and things didn't get quiet enough to sleep until everything was closed down. And I suggest you avoid sitting on the sofas in the lobby. It only took me a few minutes to discover there were already lots of little things already living there. Food service is erratic. We didn't try any of it and from what I saw it didn't look awful. The good news is you're just down the road, around the corner, and down the road from the Cattle Baron Supper Club. We had dinner there one night and it was the best steak dinner I've had in a long time. We were chatting with a bellman at the Many Glacier Hotel (which is another spot to get a great meal). He mentioned there were lots of places outside the park besides his hotel that provided better value. When we told him where we were staying he replied without skipping a beat, "that's not one of them." The park is beautiful and we will be back. However, we'll make a point of seeking out some other place to stay.
