What a neat place! It really is in the middle of nowhere. It is nearly all gravel roads for miles…read more Max speed probably around 35mph. But it's so neat to just drive around. It's also very quiet, except for the wind. I didn't pass many other cars at all. It probably took me about 2 hours to drive through (including my stop at the visitor center). I stopped for about 30-45 mins to talk with the volunteers there and sign the guest book. They were so friendly! Both ladies were so passionate about the preserve and knew so much about its history. And also about the wildlife and plants on the prairie. They were also telling me about the controlled burn that they were doing at the time of my visit. I learned about how the burns help keep the prairie healthy. So neat! Cell reception is spotty. I have an iPhone and downloaded an offline map while still in Tulsa before my journey up there so I was worry free. Worked out perfect! Also check the website i'm close to the day of your visit to ensure of volunteer will be staffed that day. As the visitor center is run by volunteers... There might not always be someone there every day. PS... don't expect to touch a bison. There are signs warning you to stay away as they can be dangerous/aggressive. For the most part, you are supposed to stay on the gravel road.

We visited this Park while passing through on our way back to Fort Worth. It had just rained so the…read morelake had flooded many of the sites and standing water was everywhere. That's just how it happens! Nature tends to take over sometimes and there nothing they could do to prevent it. We ended up finding a camping spot for our tent that wasn't too flooded, yet close to the outhouse. It was pretty quiet, even being close to the train tracks didn't bother us that much. The outhouse was a bit dirty as you can imagine the rain probably added to it, but we were just grateful for a hole to relieve ourselves! There are plenty of spaces to camp, the cost is about $21/night I believe. And since the office is closed on the weekends, you have to pay by cash or check and drop it in the box by the office. The camp site we wanted were walkup only so we just drove around until we got the place we wanted to camp for the night. No issues! I'm sure in the summer it's gorgeous!

Only once were there other small dogs on the small dog side, while me and my 2 doxies were there. There are usually several large dogs on the large dog side. We just look longingly at them. I hope you'll come out and visit the best kept secret in Andover. This dog park is part of the municipal park which has everything you could ever wish for in a park. It's located behind Andover's city hall on East Central.
