decent park to come to for the splash water fun! there are about 6 benches surrounding so parents can watch. there were also people who brought blankets in the shaded area. the bathrooms i will say are pretty clean too so a star just for that!!! usually park bathrooms are nasty lol. read more

We've enjoyed coming to Swanston Park on hot summer days. Arriving in the late afternoon there is a fair amount of shade and usually at least a slight breeze, making it comfortable even in 100 degree weather. On our visits, all the water features have been working and we've been able to cool off. The kids love it and there's a playground nearby, though that has minimal shade. We'll definitely return. This is a great park! They have the typical playground area with wood chips and a sand pit (eww... but kids like sand so, OK). They have a tennis court, basketball courts, picnic areas, lots of open grassy space, etc. There is a community center that seems to always have something going on (seasonal parties, music lessons, old folks cafe, etc). The real draw here, though is the SPRAYGROUND! When the weather warms up they run it on weekends. Summer time they run it every day. When it's 100°+ there is still fun to be had outdoors. There is shaded seating for parents right along the edge of the sprayground (but it doesn't seem big enough). Wear sunscreen, a bathing suit, and some flip-flops and prepare to get wet! Oh yeah, the ice cream men hit this place hard so bring some cash if you can't say "no." read more

I can't believe it took us two years to find out about this place! The real star here is the "splash park" which has a nice little area where kids can run around in fountains of water, spray each other with water cannons, or dump large buckets of water on each other. It's not huge but it has water attractions for kids of all ages. My son who's not yet 18 months still had a blast running around in the water and I was pleased that the older kids were considerate enough to watch out for him. It's very safe in general, there's not much standing water that could be dangerous for the little ones, but I still stood nearby to help him out. They also have large shade tents for the parents, and nearby picnic tables for lunch. We didn't look around at the rest of the park too much but in general it seemed exceptionally clean and well kept. We'll definitely be back. read more

What a great park! We came just for the splash pad but there's several covered table areas, a playground, tennis courts, and basketball courts. Plenty of parking! My daughter enjoyed the splash pad while I sat in the shade. They have a few benches surrounding the pad and even has a cover on one side that protects you from the sun while you watch your kids play. It was the first day that the pad was working after being down for maintenance for a while, and it seemed like it was still trying to get the kinks out. There were several times where water didn't come out of anything and kids were just standing there waiting. The largest water feature seemed to not work at all. The only downside to the splash pad was how slippery it was. There were kids falling everywhere. All the kids rush from water feature to water feature because there's only one fountain going at once, so all the kids run and then slip. My daughter even fell on her back and hit her head and she was just walking. I don't know how to make the textured cement less slippery, but it's an issue to be looked at. Regardless, we'll be frequent visitors throughout the summer because it's free and a great way to keep cool! read more

Surrounded by low income housing, this park can get a little crowded with children. Sometimes, unsupervised children. We love coming here due to the great water sprays and lots of parking. Those land owners looking to build a park should follow this design, for it's got everything you could really want for a local park with limited space. Plenty of parking, basketball court, and tennis courts are pretty well kept (it would be nice if there were lights to play at night, but then again maybe not), playground area, covered picnic tables, grassy area to run around and the cool water fountain area that looks really fun to play in during the blazing hot summers we have in Sacramento. It's unfair for me to downgrade the review for this purpose, but I'm doing it anyway. I'm doing it for the area it is located in, and the type of crowd this generates for your safety and expectations if you come here. It can be straight G-H-E-T-T-O! You got cars rolling up on dubs with the stereo rattling in the trunk, people rolling "other" stuff that has a different smell to it, kids running around unsupervised (really messes up your tennis game), and I wouldn't want to be here after dark. Don't get me wrong, there are nice people that come here too, but you have been warned. read more

This review is only based on the fun my kids had at the sprayground. My kids had a blast heck if I were 17yrs younger I would be right along with the others having fun. Now the negatives of this park, some random kid comes and punched my niece in the face because she wanted the water sprayer, which if she asked it wouldn't had been a problem. I tried to talk to the childs parents regarding the situation and they wanted to act like they spoke no english ok fine I can speak a little spanish myself thought a bite rusty, I explain again and they said kids will be kids. Wtf!! My niece got sucker punched! So then I did what most parents probably would not do but yes! I let my niece defend herself. I have to agree with the other reviewers this park is the most ghetto park I been too, I don't understand why ppl come to a park just to play loud music in their cars and parking lot pimp all day so lame. If you have a couple of house apes and need something free to do on a hot day, look no further. This little park just opened their "Spray Ground", a bunch of spouting sprinklers and hoses shooting up from colorful cushioned playground material. There are shaded picnic tables and a play structure. Sand volleyball court. Grass to run around on. So wear 'em out. Maybe they'll take a nice long nap and you can catch up on Tivo. read more

This park is great from kids and parents with moderate expectations. Obviously if you're driving down Northrop you're going to be distracted with the visible blighted neighborhood, but that shouldn't keep you from coming to this park. For the most part, people are good and nothing harmful is going to happen to your children if you keep an eye on them. For the women who previously commented on the "Sheriff's Cars" parked out front - well, she should have read what was on the cars - Teen Youth Program. (These cars are parked there every day) There's a community center attached to this park and the Sheriff's department goes there to work with teens and young children. It's an awesome program and its shouldn't be looked down on negatively. Now for the actual park - There are many different water features at the park, much more than the one on Pope Avenue which is the only closest comparison. There's spray guns, water that shots up from all different areas and a rotating bucket that splashes the kids! The playground area is okay. Not up to ADA standards in my opinion. There's no recycled tire chips (bad cushioning if there's a fall) and not to many handicap access points, but fun for kids that don't have handicap disabilities. There's so much acreage it's amazing! The land spreads for what looks like miles. My son brings his baseball gear and his soccer ball and can have fun for hours with all the land. Now for the few negatives... only reason I won't give it five stars. The restrooms are just bad. There's no doubt about it. No doors, no soap, no nothing. Just a pot to you know what in. Ugh, this frustrates me. I honestly do not like going to the restroom without a door, and then to have no soap to wash my hands??? Talk about spreading germs... yuck! And as much as I love the grounds, I have to say that I've seen some people not pick up after their pets. Ewww... people, come on! Kids play out there. Just pick up the poo please. And I hate to say this... but there are some people that really need a lesson or two in picking up after themselves. You're children are watching you, lead by example! Pick up your trash on the way out. There's recycling bins and garbage cans everywhere. There's no need to be so lazy. read more

I went here a lot when I lived across the street. My dogs loved walking around the park and attempting to bolt to the basketball court when kids were there. The grass can get a bit soggy and there is often a homeless dude hanging out/sleeping on the picnic table. But no body's bothered me when I've walked there. Since I moved they opened a water/spray fountain for kids, that seems pretty freaking adorable. I wouldn't come after dusk (Which I think the park is technically closed?) Let's just say, there are some cars that slow down and sell what I can only assume are "baked goods" in plastic bags. read more

I live really close to this park and I love it. I visit it with my son a few times a week. It has plenty of green grass, nice tennis courts, basketball courts, community center and a great splash pad for kids. On Memorial Day, there was probably 50 different families BBQ' it up! I personally do not mind people having a beer in the park. If you care, this park is not for you. The people in this area are diverse and having a beverage in the park, is not top on the Sheriff's list. It is an urban area, so if you pass judgement then go somewhere else. I wish this park had a softball diamond, but it has plenty of space. read more

This splash park is great! There were several water features that kids of all ages can play with, so my daughters had a great time and we spent more than an hour here. There was also a good amount of seating. The only issue I had was how crowded the entire park was, since it's all in such a condensed space. I am going to try some other splash parks in the area, but I would come back to this one. read more

I give it 3 stars because it was fun for the kiddos overall....BUT there were a couple bullies out on the splash pad and we had a bit of drama. One kid pushed my daughter for no reason multiple times. And when I tried to stop him, he attempted to bite me! He was a tiny guy but nobody was watching him. My son also told me after he got in the car that two other kids were trying to throw toilet water on him multiple times, and shooting soapy water in his eyes. I was so upset. I was watching and at no point did I think they were doing any of that. My son didn't tell me until after we got in the car. When I was watching them it was seemingly harmless and they all appeared to be happy. My attention was split between my daughter and my son so that's probably why I missed it and ai feel so guilty. Anyway, the park should consider having someone working the area to help maintain some ground rules to keep everyone safe and happy. Otherwise this is a cool splash pad and clean park. read more

Its a hidden gem in my neighborhood! I love this park especially the water park. When I was younger I would drag my friends over here to play all the time. Its still the same, and well kept park. I love the community who goes here and its family friendly. Its fairly quiet too, and good place to bbq or picnic at. Plenty of sport activities, spaces for volleyball nets, basketball, tennis, even frisbee! read more

This review is mainly for the the tennis courts. I'm not even sure if I want to give this review 2 or 3 stars.. maybe 2.5. I visit this park only to play tennis when I'm in the area. It seems like almost every time I come here to play there are some shady people that don't do a good job of watching their children. (Once I saw a toddler walk from the play area to the parking lot and no one in the child's party noticed until I notified them.) On several occasions kids have ran in and outside the courts while we were playing and started picking up our balls. Its hard to play when you've to got to avoid hitting someone's kid with a ball and keep an eye on the balls near the fence because they try to steal them from the outside. Guess their momma never told them not to touch other peoples things! Also, there are always people blasting thing their music from the parking lot for no apparent reason. These courts would be better if there were lights to play at night... then again... would you really want to play in this area at night? read more

This place has changed a lot since I was in high school. Love coming here for the Zumba classes on Tues and Thurs! Plenty of parking, sidewalks around clubhouse and parking lot lit enough to feel safe (could be a bit better lit), clean bathrooms, and friendly front desk staff! Will definitely be back! My kids, ages 8-13, love this park. There are lots of things to do. Play areas for all ages, plenty of room to run around on their scooters, water rec for those hot days when they just have to cool off and want better company than you find at our apartment's pool. read more

Stopped here along the way while on a trip to Seattle. There was plenty of shade, the water area was great for the kids (a bit small) and although the playground was very hot my kids played on it a bit. There were plenty of kids playing there and the bathrooms inside the center were super clean. read more

Simply the best, its a water park in the summer there's a monthly magazine with all the what to do for the month activities for all ages even sports equipment try volleyball for example, do you want to have an event you can bbq or rent the hall for a banquet or party, You also can get into whats going on with the community meetings its an all around great place all year around oh and i love Christmas there's also a Xmas program for children. read more
