The bathrooms are always well stocked and there is always tons of parking available. They really take care of the area well.

The park itself is beautiful--green fields, covered picnic areas, a nice playground, and water fountains. Perfect spot for families and gatherings. Unfortunately, our experience was soured by the security staff. We understand the park closes at sundown, and we were already in the process of packing up with a large group and plenty of belongings. The guard approached us multiple times, repeating that we needed to leave, even though it was clear we were packing. Meanwhile, another group nearby still had a barbecue fire going, and he never approached them. It felt like we were singled out, which was frustrating. We were in the covered picnic area closer to restrooms. When we asked him why he was picking on us he replied he will go and talk to other group later, we observed him leaving and never approaching the other group. Great park, but security needs to be more consistent and respectful. read more

Good park and good slides but there were homeless people bathing on splash pad while my toddler was having fun in it. There should be more security around this area since it has museum and kids playground. read more

We go to a lot of parks cuz I have 3 littles and this park probably takes the cake! Area looks sketchy but the park and play structures are dope! The little kiddie area [aged 5 and under] is spaceship themed with missle, airplanes and seesaws to ride on. The big kid play area looks like a huge missle and my 11 year old said she had so much fun on the steep slide she screamed on the way down. I love how the kiddie swings has super soft stuff on the bottom in case the kids fall. There are 3 covered picnic areas, a basketball court and this cool place is right behined the aerospace museum. There's a small rock climbing area and a water play area for the hot summer days. The only debbie-downer was the bathroom was closed [it was only 2pm?] and the only alternative was a stanky porto potty. read more

I like this park and came on a day when the weather was sunny but cool and it wasn't crowded. Maybe on a hot crowded day, things would be different. Playground looks cook, shaped like a rocket. The slides are tall and fast. There's a small area for wee kids and a splash park area that was closed for the winter. It does look old though so not sure if it's open fo summer. There's a basketball area and tons of grass to run on. Not a lot of shade in the grass area but tons of covered pavilions. Plenty of parking. I didn't go into the restroom to see if it was gross or not. read more

Sat here and had my lunch in the shade near the water play area. At one point, I was somewhat surrounded with a field trip group having their lunch but they didn't bother me and I didn't bother them. Very peaceful here and I really enjoyed watching the kids running around in the water play. read more

I pulled into Freedom Park after picking up a cuban sandwich. A sandwich I happened upon when early to the opening of another shop. I picked this spot to eat lunch .. a sort of picnic, by myself. This park is west of Watt Ave on Freedom Parkway (a road that used to access the former AFB). This park is next to the Aerospace Museum of California. That explains the design of the playground equipment. Back in my day, we had to make our own playground (tire swings, forts from scrap lumber, etc.) The main play structure at this park is BIG and space exploration in theme and design. Picnic tables, benches, grills, and covered group areas. The concrete walkways are wide. The grounds were clean, swept, tidy, and manicured. I saw only one stray human asleep on a bench. I had no idea this park was here. This isn't an area of town I frequent and not sure if, when, or why I might be back. read more

What a great park this is! It's well laid out with areas that are designed for various ages from toddlers age 2 years old up to senior citizens. It's very handicap accessible with plenty of wide cement sidewalks and picnic areas. The restrooms are also wheelchair accessible with the men's room having 1 of 2 stalls wide enough for a couple of wheelchairs. The woman's restroom is similar with 1 of 3 stalls. Barbecues are sufficient, with each of the smaller pavilions have about 2 or 3 grills and 5 picnic tables. I counted at least 14 grills.There's a covered "stage" for groups who desire an entertainment or presentation area with a large picnic table area in front if it. The park also has a few baseball diamonds with bleachers, a nice size basketball court with cemented seating areas court side. I salute the North Highlands Recreation and Park District for such a fine job in providing the community with such a gem. read more

Loved this park great play areas, gazebos, and picnic areas. During summer they even have a little slash zone for the kids which was great. Restrooms near by benches everywhere so you can get a good seat to watch your children. Great park got to check out. read more

I'm ashamed I'm just now getting around to doing this - but this park is truly a gem! In June 2016, I held my baby shower at this park. I had a lot of family coming as my husband and I had been trying to conceive for almost three years and miraculously got pregnant without help. Yay! Anyways we were due in July and wanted to wait until the end for the shower. We were concerned about it being too hot but we didn't want to rent a hall because we wanted the entire family, including children to come. My mom and I prayed and one day she drove past this park. She and my dad stopped to scope it out, sent me pics, and we reserved it, the Richard Dickinson Pavilion, the next day (April 2016)! It was perfect! There was no poopy grass. There was a splash and play for the kids. There was shaded space under the Pavilion which was clean. The one issue was the bathroom being dirty when I visited myself and we asked the staff to make sure the bathrooms were clean before the even which they did so that wasn't even an issue the day of my event. We had a blast! There was plenty of space to play games, eat food made on the grills and it was perfect in every way! read more

The park it's self is great and everyone had a good time the only problem is that the bathrooms were locked and as far as I know no one informed us of that, there's a porta potty.... but in the contract that we it said that restrooms will be open from dawn till dusk or so unless you would like us to open an investigation into false advertising I suggest that you call us very quickly, my number is 916-385-8131, or you can contact 335-9751 If I am missing something I apologize it's just a real disappointment that restrooms wouldn't be open on a Sunday when multiple people are having parties here for their children. read more

My kiddos affectionately call this "Rocket Park" They absolutely love it, I love that they have swings. Weeeeeeeee! Atmosphere: Aways a good mix and crowd if there are others here, if we get the park to ourselves then that's when the kids really let their imaginations fly! Park: They have the big structures for the older kids and my boys can spend a lotta time running through the different play zones and big slides. The park also has a smaller structure for smaller kiddos. There is also a small water area for those hot hot days. Amenities: On site restrooms, and they always been clean and stocked. Lots of shade and picnic benches if you're coming to have a picnic :) Final thought: It's always a favorite and high on our park list. read more

Fields are garbage, very uneven, especially the outfield. Small parking lot for larger tournaments. Staff is very friendly when we have played here. Snack bar is usual junk food so if you're health conscience at all, pack an ice chest. Located fairly close to some fast food, coffee, and gas stations. read more

This park is pretty cool for kids and adults. There are plenty of places to sit and I hosted my daughter's birthday here. It was less than 50 people so I did not have to reserve a canopy/table area. The kids had fun on the playground. There is a big one and a small one for the little kids to play on. It is next to the Aerospace museum. read more

We were there today for few softball games. You pay to get in yet the bathroom floors were all wet and slimy. Seems like the Owner of the league or the person collecting monies from teams to play, can afford to hire a janitorial service to service the bathrooms every couple of hours. The neighborhood /street was full of homeless living in RV's , near a school. also. So do they share the same bathroom or grass as the softball players and their families? read more

The softball fields at this park are sub-pare. In need of much repair and maintenance. If you plan on watching a tournament their. bring a blanket. When they drag the fields the bleachers get covered in dust. The facilities management does not clean them. If your charging to watch kids play it would be nice if the fields and the seating area were better kept. read more

Okay !! Seriously! Love this park! Hidden gem amongst Highlands. I needed to find a place close to home for the little man to burn off energy. Perfect place for that. Really big park. There was a lot of shaded seating area, perfect for a kids birthday party! The mini water park was off (it is freezing outside) lol. Other than that, it's got a "big kids" playground, a "little kids" playground and a toddler playground! I definitely will make it our go to park, only wish it was easier to get to instead of having to make a U-turn if your coming off watt. Other than that, plenty of parking spaces! read more

Amazing jungle gym. One of the best in the surrounding areas. Too bad it's in a sketchy area itself, and little to no shade.

This is probably my favorite park in the area. It's right next to the Aero Space Museum so you can see some of the planes through a gate which is pretty cool. there's a splash pad for the hot summer days which is awesome because there is nowhere else in north highlands to cool down with the kids. The weekends are always packed due to birthday parties. All in all good environment. Very well kept and clean. Basketball court available as well. read more

This park is great for family fun events like birthdays. Make sure to reserve one of the bench areas though, as it is a popular spot for kids bdays and community events. They have a water area too most summers! Just watch out for the transients who use it as a hangout and drug use area. read more

This park is amazing especially for its location. The park has so much for the kids to do and right next to the old air base and museum! The bathrooms and the water faucet were clean. Multiple areas for parties or picnics. My only complaint was one of the slides were boarded up at the top. The kids went and climbed through the bottem and didn't see anything wrong so maybe some punks boarded it to be funny. Other than that everything was awesome! read more

First time at the softball diamonds. We are here from out of town to play in a tournament. Bleachers have no backs at the top. Dangerous for children. Having to take cover constantly because of pop flies and NO protection over head. Annoying to say the least! There is some type of half way complete wooden structure above the bleachers but not sure what they are doing with it. Cannot bring food or drinks in. Concession stand expensive. read more

Being that I grew up a Highlands native and was always at the AFB, when it was open, I actually have no idea what used to occupy this space. But I can tell you that there is a lovely park there now. There are 3 covered picnic areas (2 large & 1 medium). There are some shade trees and ample grass so you can bring your own shade umbrellas, if u don't want to pay to have the covered ones reserved. There are also a good amount of grills, if you don't feel like lugging yours from home. I liked that there were ample trash cans, giving you no reason to not clean up after your party. Surprisingly, the bathrooms weren't bad. There was no soap and only cold water, but we brought soap just in case. There's a large space themed jungle gym for the big kids/pre teens; as well as, a play area for the younger ones. They've just added a water area, where the water shoots out of jets in the ground. This is open from 12 to 7p. It looked quite refreshing. I may have to break out my 'kini and shorts, to check it out on my next visit. read more

We took the kids on vacation to Sacramento, and knowing they love outdoor playgrounds I tried searching for the most awesome one beforehand. Found it! This place was great. The main play structure was too big for our little ones, but it looked amazing for the bigger kids. The toddler play structure was perfect for my almost four year old and 20 month old - complete with 4 different slides! Clean bathrooms, lots of seating areas. The only small downside was there were only 4 swings, two baby ones and two for big kids - they were very busy! read more
