I want to write a good review for Swartz. Yes, Mike the owner is a quirky guy, seems troubled by things and isn't a warm touchy-feely person, but my experiences have all been good. They repaired a window perfectly, tried to fix a crank but couldn't. Mike did offer help and eventually found a company that did get me a new crank. I then used them to buy a screen door for my daughter's room. Everything went perfectly and the installation was on time and easy. So, I give these guys 5 stars. They've done everything they promised to do and then some. Rare in this day and age. read more

These guys saved me. One evening my son accidentally shattered our large front window. Luckily he was not hurt. I panicked because I had to go to work early the next morning, I have a large dog, and I am a single parent. I did not feel like it was safe to stay in our house with a shattered front window in the middle of Venice, nor safe to leave the house. I called Swartz Glass and they sent over a guy right away to fix the window. He was professional and courteous. The owner even said I could stop by and pay the next day since I was in the neighborhood. Also the cost was reasonable. Two of my clients have used them to replace the glass in fogged dual paned windows. Most companies want to install a whole new door or window in this situation. This is one of the few companies I know that will replace the glass. Also they came in lower than another local company. Needed to get a glass top for our dining table. Went in thinking I wanted the thickest glass possible and not knowing much else. Spoke with mike and he insisted on 3/8 inch, more than that was overkill and not worth the extra $$. Let me take two samples home to test it out. Decided on the 3/8 inch thickness and placed the order. Three days later received a call to schedule the delivery. Final output? Awesome. The glass looked great and Mike was absolutely right. The thicker glass would have looked ridiculous on our bamboo table. Quick service, great price, that's what I'm talkin bout! Btw, I did read the past reviews and was nervous given what was said when i first got there. I think if you're expecting Nieman Marcus white glove service, this place will fall short. After waiting 2 hours they never bothered showing up! As a Designer I deal with allot of vendors, and I have used Swartz before also with mixed results, this was the second time on a residential project. I asked only for an metal trim strip, the owners response was cold. all of my responses were not fast enough. I paid $ 10 cash for a item worth $5 and after 15 minutes took the account with me. We all have bad days, but I am afraid this is a place to avoid as they are very hot and cold. perhaps you will see them on a good day. read more

This place is great. I brought them a potential nightmare; a pet door insert for a sliding glass door that had to be cut down. Our office contacted them because they were listed as a preferred vendor by our property management company in our office building. We needed a window replaced immediately to protect our business from theft. They were unprofessional, disrespectful, and did not show up on time. - Unprofessional: Did not communicate change in service date and times. They changed the invoice twice with new charges not previously disclosed. - Disrespectful: Because they were a no show, we requested they board the window until they were able to service it the next day. They advised there would be a fee. We requested the fee to be waived since they did not show up at the time scheduled and they LAUGHED advising they would not change the fee. - Untimely: Both scheduled appointments on two separate dates were not kept. read more

When we tried to reschedule they couldn't offer an appt wimdow to commit to and repeatedly said 'let's try...' as if it was always a possibility they'd be late/no show. if i could, there would be NO STARS. The rudest service (if you can call this service) i have ever experienced on the face of this planet. I needed a very simple glass top done. Called order in on Friday, asked for it to be done on the following Wednesday. Called to follow up on Monday. Couldn't find my order. Called on Wednesday for pick up, couldn't find my order again! Never did the glass. When i got frustrated with them, they gave me complete attitude. First, a woman by the name of Elizabeth. Then Sandy came on the phone, she was even worse, completely rude and childish. No way to do business like that. He is unhelpful, argumentative, arrogant and, even though it's close by my workplace, I will no longer go there - in fact, I went to another glass place and happened to mention I had been to Swartz and without prompting, I was told they get people coming in there who've had a bad experience at Swartz. Apparently it's a family business, so it's a case of they-can't-fire-me syndrome. You'd think a place with a dicey parking situation might go out of its way to cultivate customers, but it's the opposite - while I was there, the next designated victim was being rudely treated as I was walking out of the place! haha, This place is such a joke! I called to ask for a quote and if reasonable, to install a simple square mirror. The woman on the phone replied to my questions quite curtly. But whatever, i needed to get this job done. Anyway, I got the quote and then my husband called back to schedule the measurement visit, and the installation date. He got an appointment for the measurement for 1pm and they never showed up. When he called the store, they said they would call their measurement guy to see where he was. And then they never called back. My husband called again 20 minutes later to see what was going on, and the girl on the phone was like, "we couldn't contact the driver." No offer to reschedule or to get someone else to do it. Just a useless statement. Umm, hello? The worst! SOOOO Unprofessional! We scheduled to have a broken window replaced and then they never showed. When we called they said they didn't know who we were... this after multipe calls and emails. Then we got a call from them days later asking us if they had fixed the window..?? This is without doubt the worst small business I've ever had dealings with. I took a mirror for remounting onto the frame. A clerk wrote up the order. When I returned to pick up the mirror, and as I was putting it into my car, I noticed that the corner of the frame was separated. I pointed it out to the helper, who denied that it was done by them. I spoke to the on-duty person (it was New Year's Eve), who was extremely rude, hostile and aggressive. When I pointed out the separation, he immediately (without examining the corner) said, "We're not responsible for anything!" I said, I brought the mirror and frame into them, the counter clerk had taken my order, had not noted any damage (because there was none) on the frame. He was nasty, angry, and said, "How do I know it happened here? We're not responsible for anything." I said, "Fine! That's what I'll tell people, that you, Swartz Glass, is a business that's not responsible for anything. Is that what you want?" So he offered that I could leave the mirror and let the owner see it and talk to him later. I said I wanted to do that. And that I wanted the frame repaired, because they had broken it. I returned about 2 weeks later, walked in and asked the counter clerk about my mirror and that I wanted to speak to Mr. Swartz. He looked up at me (was helping another customer), didn't greet or acknowledge me. Swartz said "How do you know we did it? You could have brought it in like that." I said," The clerk didn't note any damage, because there wasn't any. My husband carried it into the car and didn't see damage, and I brought it into your store and didn't see any damage. You broke it." He was hostile, rude, short, and when I told him this was no way to run a business or treat a customer. He cut me off with, "I don't need to hear this elementary school stuff..... And if you think I'm bad, my father was worse!" Great family pride. Horrible business ethics and behavior. Stay away from this place. This doesn't deserve even one star. Had a shower stall installed several years ago. All was good until the door wouldn't stay closed due to a corroded magnet. Went back to Swartz and the curt attendant had me wait 20 minutes while the owner finished his lunch at his desk. Then the owner proceeds to tell me that I should just upgrade to a seamless stall and shell out $2500. As he said, "these things don't last forever." I ended up convincing him to just sell me the magnet which ended up being the wrong size. I think all of the celebrity photos on their walls (most from 60s and 70s) have gone to their heads. read more

All I can say is all of you who gave them a bad review can tell me "I told you so". Worst customer service EVER... Sent them to chk a window for a tenant and said there's nothing wrong with it. Told them to send me a letter stating that, they said ok but will send me a bill for the service call. I agreed. When I received the bill there was no letter so I called them to ask if they could email it. The lady put me on speaker, said they couldn't fix it (??) because they are just a glass company not a window company. I asked what was wrong with it and she said NOTHING. They lost my payment, then said I never sent it, I sent copy of cancelled check, they lost that too and then in a very rude and disrespectful way threatened to send to collections as if they had done nothing wrong! Swartz glass is a west side institution. Personally, I love them. They get the glass done right and don't take too long about it. They're unfriendly, they fight with each other in front of you, they don't give or accept compliments, they're unfailingly impolite and impatient. They HATE small talk. They're like your favorite grouchy uncle that never has anything but gripes, but you love him anyway because he's so consistent, extreme and predictable. Maybe it's because I'm from NY, where you're actually a bit disappointed when you're treated kindly -- it can't possibly be sincere. At Swartz, they don't pretend to like you so you don't have to worry about that. But they'll get your order right. read more

I like this place. True, the staff may not be the warmest and the owner has a unique personality that could be construed as hostile, but I like to find it more amusing. He reminds me of a Ron Swanson from Parks & Recs. It caught me off guard on my first visit, but I kept a smile on my face, hid my surprise and they came through with great work and a reasonable price. I used this company 11 years ago and they did a good job providing protection glass for furniture. I just bought new furniture and called them in again. The on-site employees know their work and did a good job taking measurements and delivering the job. However, in dealing with the office and the owner of the company, they were unorganized and downright rude. They never got back to me by phone or mail regarding the new job. They had to look up the work and finally confirmed the job. They called three times times to set up the previously scheduled appointment. When I questioned how they did that, the owner told me not to be critical, rather than apologize. If I have another option for the service they provide I will use it in the future. Human courtesy and decency is key to maintaining any business. read more

my experience here was fine. the owner of the place was nice and really talkative... but a little flirty (weird!) i called to get a quote for my project and the woman who helped me out was really nice. when i dropped off the frame, they took a couple measurements and that was it. quick/easy. they did a good job and had the project done in a couple days. i would have given 3 stars, but they quoted me $45-50 and the total came out to around $65. the project wasn't a difficult one, and there were no unforeseen issues that would have increased the rate. even with the quote, they're more pricey then other small glass shops. other shops were quoting $40, but since they're close, i went with swartz. if i had another glass project, i'd probably check out another place. read more
