I have been a patient here for about two years and unfortunately my experiences have been very frustrating. At the front information desk, I have sometimes felt dismissed or spoken to harshly when asking for directions or clarification, especially when I mentioned that I had visited before but needed reminders due to medical issues and medication-related brain fog. During some specialist visits, I felt that my responses were not fully acknowledged when I answered questions in ways that were unexpected. This left me concerned that parts of my medical information may not have been clearly reflected in my records. I have also struggled to get assistance from the Galter Life Center. Despite having a referral from my specialists, I have not been able to schedule an appointment or receive clear guidance through in-person visits, phone calls, or email. Additionally, I have attempted to contact Patient Experience and Advocacy several times but have not received responses to my calls or messages. When the system moved to NorthShoreConnect, I hoped communication would improve, but many of my messages there have also gone unanswered. Because of these experiences, I personally feel that my concerns have not been addressed adequately, and I would encourage others to carefully consider their options when seeking care. read more

Excellent care for my sister. She was brought in by a wonderful team of paramedics and was admitted immediately and cared for on the spot. They did all the necessary tests and got us answers right away. She ended up getting admitted and some minor hiccups she was successfully released. Kudos to the medical team and nursing staff. I am so sorry to the People of Swedish Hospital (North Park) I hadn't slept in days, I was very drunk, and in my paranoid mind something different was happening. I've been robbed a lot, trauma, blah blah blah. Different things just kept dawning on me throughout the day, like "Oh that's why they put shit in sealed bags", Or oh thats why I have track marks. It is no excuse but I assure you I was having crazy dreams, in the flashes of reality I retain from that night You have the patience of Saints. I would not have the strength to put up with that shit for a second. That must have been wild to witness. You are all lovely people and again, I could not be sorrier for my behavior that night/day. This is a great smaller hospital which is well maintained and managed. Care is patient oriented. Great comfortable rooms. Attentive personnel who clearly have vocation and commitment to healthcare. Care is as good as larger hospitals in city while keeping a homy small town feel. Have accompanied or visited many times and experience is always positive. read more

I came to the ER due to severe throat pain, and I've been here for over five hours without anyone checking on me or offering any pain medication. I understand how busy the emergency department can be, but I'm in significant pain and have asked to see a doctor several times with no response. I wouldn't be here if it weren't for the severity of my condition, but I truly need medical attention and some relief from the pain. Have been in the ER since 1am with my 80 year old mom, who had a stress test days ago that showed blockage of a small vessel. She had burning in her chest, nausea, and sweating last night so we rushed in. We still aren't in a room 5 hours later. She still has no IV. They've been coming to the waiting room to do vitals (once for her) for all patients. This doesn't even seem HIPAA compliant. They drew blood twice but provided no explanation of what they were doing. No one has communicated with us at all. I'm regretting not just taking her to Rush but this was closer and we thought it was an emergency. Our visit seems pointless as my mom can't even lie down to rest. read more

There's a disabled parking space on either side of the door from the lot into the elevator bank, but no button to open the door automatically. I guess they expect folks in a wheelchair or something else to just figure it out? Very very strange indeed. I've used swedish for many years. Now it's called endeavor. Today I called for an appointment with a DR and was on the phone 10 min just to be asked if I wanted to set up an appointment with one of their Drs. Well that's what I stated I was calling for ten.minutes ago so yes. Ended up with n hold pretty much just for them to tell me the Drs office will call me to schedule an appointment. Not sure why I needed to sit on the phone for ten minutes then. When is m given a number to call from a Dr to make an appointment with a specialist I assume it's because like all the other times I've called that they will then give me an appointment. Now I anticipate they will call while I'm at work or something and it will take me another 6 months to get time to call them during business hours. Lovely. read more

I had the unfortunate luck to be brought here by ambulance on 8/27/2024 after suffering an asthma attack. My husband and I made the mistake of informing the staff that I also have PTSD when they asked about other ailments. The attending physician's attitude changed immediately. He kept making comments about how it wasn't an asthma attack that it was a panic attack. I have been dealing with both for over 20 years. I know the difference. I kept shaking my head no because it was hard to speak with the oxygen mask on. He basically laughed and kept on. They released me without any medication and I left still not able to fully take a breath. I went to my doctor the next day who prescribed me a steroid and a daily inhaler on top of my regular rescue inhaler. Within a few hours of the new medication, I was finally able to breath normally. If you ever have a medical emergency, do not go here. The doctors are arrogant, the staff uncaring. This is really unfortunate because my father in law passed away peacefully in Swedish's hospice wing but this experience left me with never wanting to step foot in anything Swedish Hospital related. Treat people better, even if I was only having a panic attack, I deserved to get treated with respect. read more

First time here for a mammogram. I used to go to a different place. I was able to quickly find a schedule here surprisingly. I booked it just 2 days ago. I came early but they were able to attend to me without having to wait for the appointment time. The waiting area was big and clean but a bit warm. I'm not sure if that was the A/C or my hot flash. The technician was friendly and swift. She only took 4 photos and seems confident everything was clear. I often had multiple takes at the other place and it was often hard on my bossom. But this experience today was not too hurtful. I was out in no time. There is next door parking for $4 the whole day. You don't get a ticket when you come in and you have to pay in the lobby. The parking checkout was a bit confusing and I think I was double charged. But I'll call my credit card for that. Overall, I like this one and will continue to come here for my mammogram. It's much closer to me too. read more

There have been AT LEAST 20 people go ahead of me when they have arrived after me and they didn't look like they were on their death bed. Unless you're dying, they don't care. Don't come here. I've been sitting in a frigid emergency room waiting area for almost ten hours with no end in sight with an infected finger that's slowly creeping toward the point of no return with cellulitis, so I figured why not write a review of how horrible my experience has been while I listen to a guy next to me snoring and someone vomiting into a bag five feet away? Nine hours ago someone took my vitals, and eight hours ago someone else took my blood. Five hours ago I was told there was only one other person in front of me. Four hours ago a lovely person behind the reception desk, when I reminded him that I'd been waiting six hours, told me that no one had chained me to a chair forcing me to stay. (Never mind that my PCP actually told me to go to the ER, this wasn't my idea, and what's probably happening with my finger is MRSA chomping at the bit, but sure, I'll just prance right outta here.) Three hours ago a nurse made the rounds of the waiting room taking everyone's vitals again since the ones taken before had "expired" (?). I wasn't keen on everyone in the waiting room seeing my blood pressure, which was probably reflected in said number (145/98!!) and I'm not sure that's entirely ethical. Two hours ago the one person in front of me left. An hour ago I asked for a status update. I got a shrug. At this point it's a battle of wills. I once spent 22 hours in a chair in the Columbia University Medical Center ER waiting for pain medication in the middle of a kidney stone situation, and THAT involved better communication and more functional medical care than what's going on here. On an ordinary day, and for the specialists I see at Swedish, it's not a bad place (Dr Cilley, Dr Park, & Colleen Harrison are all highly recommended). But the ER experience is horrendous. There is absolutely no reason why anyone should spend 10+ hours in a waiting room with almost zero communication at a large hospital in the third-largest city in the United States. read more

They left me in a hallway while I screamed for help while in labor. I never got to the OB ward until after the horror had mostly finished. I started to give birth in a wheelchair l, screaming in the hallway, when a team finally came to get me (after being brought in via ambulance). There was no one with me, EMS ditched me there and there I sat and waited in agony and terror, as I knew my baby was likely going to die since labor started totally out of the blue at 24 weeks. I finished birth in the ER and my baby died. The experience of screaming for help while medical personal WALKED AROUND ME has caused me long lasting trauma. I also can never forget the nurses joking about a pen while I was in total terror and my child was about to die. The director of nursing tried to tell me the gap of care was "no more than five minutes" as if that makes it acceptable. Then the hospital tried to charge me for the nursery stay (for my dead baby). They also got the death date wrong on the certificate which delayed my ability to have my daughter cremated. The doctor treating me had some lapse in her license so the medications she prescribed could not be given to me by the pharmacy. They wouldn't bring me my phone because they took it and left it in the er and I had to ask over and over for them to bring it so I could call someone, anyone. I was so alone. A total shit show. It was outrageous and I will never be able to forget the nightmare which is compounded by the grief of my baby dying. I never held her while she lived. I heard them trying to revive her and then was taken out with no option to hold her even though she was dying. I did get to hear nurses and the doctor complain and go back and forth about the stretcher not working well over my head while I wept. It was horrific, and the ER absolutely failed me. One guy even told me to "take it easy" while I stripped off my pants as the baby was coming out. They seemed surprised that I couldn't get myself onto the stretcher even though my hospital notes indicated I was screaming that I needed help and the baby was coming. I was alone and terrified, but since it was "no more than five minutes" I guess that's fine. I hope I never set foot in that building ever again. read more

As per my dr to go to the er. I went for low fever that I had for 7 days. Migraine dizziness some short of breath. I had foot surgery close to 3 weeks. Stood in the er for 12 hours with just vitals and bloodwork and sent to waiting room. Left in worse condition than I came in. My foot that was operated on started to cramp up shooting pain up my leg and giving me muscle spasms in my back. read more

"After an initial visit of 5 minutes, where im not even sure he looked at my chart, i was scheduled for a follow up 8 months later. I have a blood clot on my spleen and was refered here due to an mri showing a lesion on my pancreas mind you. The good Dr. had his office call me twice a week before the eventual appointment saying I couldnt come because my referral expired, which they surely would have known when I booked the appointment. Guess I'll just wait to die. I would find a Dr. who cares more about your health than his pockets, but sadly, good luck finding one. What I can assure you is, this guy aint it." Review is for Gastroenterology Dept & Call Center Operators Delighted when Swedish joined Endeavor Health in 2020 as they are conveniently located in the neighborhood and hubby needed to schedule a colonoscopy for the end of Dec 2024. We're part of NorthShore University HealthSystem and transportation to one of the other hospitals is difficult in winter. Since it can take 6-8 months to get a colonoscopy appt, we began in early April by contacting the Gastroenterology Dept 773-907-3038 and the journey into a surprisingly arduous scheduling process began. Despite being part of Endeavor for several years now, Gastro staff could not access the Patient History/Notes in the portal, which is an absolute necessity. You can't get on their calendar without it. They are able to view all sorts of other personal patient info including your physicians, current appointments, and Visit Summaries. Mind-boggling that the info crucial for scheduling purposes is the only info that's inaccessible to them. In any event, we were instructed to have our primary fax the Patient History directly to the Gastro office 773-989-3815 and to then wait for a call back from Ramona in 3-4 weeks. We're informed that Ramona is the sole scheduler for colonoscopies. We periodically called back for updates and to ensure the fax was received and the Call Center operators were generally helpful in forwarding our messages to the Gastro Dept. However, the last operator, a guy, hung up on us literally in mid-sentence. We are not rude or verbally abusive people, so it was rather shocking to encounter this level of unprofessionalism when simply explaining the situation. And of course it's not possible to be transferred directly to Ramona. She will call back. And it's not possible to talk with someone in Dr. Blake Jones' office either. Someone will call back. It's now Jan 2025 and we've been forced to schedule at another hopt through the Northshore call operators. We did so with zero hassle. In one phone call. What a terribly frustrating experience this has been. I still can't wrap my head around it. A colossal waste of time and energy. The Gastroenterology Dept at Swedish Hospital is in dire need of some help and perhaps some restructuring in personnel and policy. read more

Fell down stairs , bumped head badly , ambulance took me to Swedish, part of Endeavor, rather filled with employees at entry mostly on phones. Nurse took me to room, took regular blood pressure, pulse, etc..Dr. McNulty arrived, wanted to do complete body check but I insisted head only...he was flexible , did eye, ear, neck, hands strength test, asked Qs...examined scalp and saw minor cut, no stitches needed...I was feeling better , no dizziness nor pain...Dr. suggested Cat Scan on head but I thought that was overkill and another 3-4 hours...so I thanked all, left , walked briskly home and slept well..I appreciated the professional, mature caring...Today I reviewed others BUT one female was so negative re Endeavor she left est 8 reviews from FL to Niles , IL so others mixed Swedish Endeavor with a Credit process negatives also - so although Swedish could do better..they received a bogus review based on the Credit investigation. read more

I have had many excellent experiences at Endeavor Swedish Hospital. Most recently, I fell and broke my wrist. I received thorough expert care. I was referred to an excellent surgeon, Dr. Dietrich and OT, Vivian. The emergency department was very efficient and helpful. I would recommend Swedish to anyone looking for a caring environment to support their health. read more

03/20 - My only experience of going into Swedish Hospital was a bizarre one. When I got back from Japan & the Philippines last March I called in to see my doctor at Lutheran General. The person I talked to insisted that I go to the nearest hospital to get checked for Coronavirus since Japan and the Philippines has a few cases. Why? I didn't have any symptoms, but they insisted anyway. I reported to the ER entry as directed. They had called ahead to alert them that "CYRUS THE VIRUS" was coming. When I arrived they looked at me like I was the walking dead and directed me back out of the front door into a side door into an isolation room. Once inside the room I had people looking in the window at me. It was strange having people peeking in at me. I felt like a gorilla in the zoo. This was so awkward. After about 40 minutes a doctor and a male nurse came in fully gowned w/masks, face shield and a hazmat suit. He asked me some questions that have now become standard like my temperature, was I coughing, sniffling or sneezing. NO Did I have a headache, loss of sense of smell or taste. NO Did I feel sick in anyway? NO. Since all of my response were negative I was released from my cage and set free. How do you rate that? read more

Since Endeavor took over, dealings w/ Swedish Hosp. have been a nightmare. I realize everyone is overworked, overwhelmed, and understaffed but this is over the top in poor services. my most recent problem is their phone system which is inefficient, ineffective, and just a plain nightmare. I held for 20 minutes before being to simply call back. I was trying to reach my doctor (not possible) or his staff ( also not possible) when after numerous attempts and 20-30 minute holds each time, the person told me to call back because nobody was available. I gave up and just went into my doctors office to straighten out. Done right away. I tried for 3 weeks with symptoms that could be important or not. urgent care would have been no help. your phone systems is a nightmare and the phone staff are completely unhelpful. FIX IT!Also, my sister was admitted to the hospital with complaints that she hurt in her stomach area. She endured multiple tests and exams and went home with no diagnosis. she saw her regular doctor & was immediately diagnosed with shingles. The sores were present the whole time. Another time I had a fall and broke my nose on both sides. was taken to Swedish by ambulance & put in ER hallway. I had to ask everyone that walked by for a towel for the bleeding. nurses and doctors ignored me as they were eating cake for a birthday they were celebrating. Human compassion has apparently gone out the door never to be seen again. Fix your problems! read more

Even though it is the closest medical facility to my new home, I will never ever ever go to Swedish Hospital again. It's outrageous that I asked for the MRI disc after the procedure, I was told by the tech that they would deliver it to my doctor, and that was completely inaccurate. Now I have to go back at least once and maybe twice to get the records because process of obtaining medical records is an unbelievable maze, it's unclear on the website how to do it, and when you talk to a live person in the medical records dept. he or she can't possibly tell you what you need to do, i.e., go to the facility and asked for it; email the form; bring the form to the facility, submit it physically and then go home and come back when they tell you to; or submit it physically at the facility and they'll give it to you right away. They don't know if you have to wait for it or have to come back a 2nd time (that would be the 3rd time because I already went there for the procedure). It is a complete cluster F---. Overall good experience here, but really dependent on department. Midwives and birthing center: amazing! Super knowledgeable, great facility, and amazing care. Highly recommend. Mother and baby unit: okay experience. I am not a first time mom so it worked for me, but they were not hands on and didn't even check on us often. If I was a new mom, it would be a rough experience. Had some good nurses but also one pushy nurse that didn't make for the best experience. Midwives and doctors great. Labs and ultrasound: okay, just be ready for a long wait. They just want to get your insurance money and leave you dealing with the deductibles. I went in December to the ER with with immense flu like symptoms, they did all types of radiology exams, and IV's: the works, only to find out it was Covid. I've paid them while I was there (300) another 900-1000 was billed to me in January, and now they want another 100 for god knows what reason. Hospitals like this pray on the under insured, and bank on trying to maximize how large of a claim they can pass off to the insurance company. On top of that, you spend an ENTIRE day there doing absolutely nothing. be very skeptical as to the services they have you sign up for. I know I'll never go back to this group. read more

My father has been to the same ER more than 6 times this year. He has advanced Alzheimer's and cannot speak but they never let me back until I ask at least 5 times. The nursing staff is inexperienced and literally don't know what they are doing (ask a question and you get a "I don't know or I have to check". Even worse are the ER physicians - the female ones are non-professional, angry and rude and end up taking it out on patients and family. The male physicians are haughty and dismissive, visibly irritated that you ask them questions. Hard to understand why the service is so poor when most of the time I see doctors/nurses/aides sitting at stations laughing and joking while family members and patients fervently wait for them to come in and turn off alarms (sometimes they go for 40 minutes), bring a blanket or even provide water. It is unfortunate that NorthShore hasn't done anything to bring this hospital in line with its other hospitals that run much more professionally. Shame on you for keeping this at such a low performing institution. read more

My Father tested positive for covid-19 at 7:30am. Our family spoke with a doctor and nurse later in the morning around 10:00am. Neither of them mentioned he tested positive for covid. They completely forgot to even mention this to the family. We didn't find out until about 12 hours later. And when I contact the Patient Experience Team to communicate my concern about this glaring mistake, I never received a call back. This hospital is poorly run, and isn't interested in even acknowledging any mistakes. Take your family elsewhere. read more

I wish I could give this place 0 stars. My mother passed away due to tumors in her brain. She was suffering for about 3 days. She couldn't keep food down anymore. She kept telling me the hospital won't do anything for her. Just prescribe shitty medication or tell her to visit and emergency room that will take 8 hours to be seen. I called in the morning hoping to get some help but didn't receive a call back till many hours later. I told one of her doctors that she couldn't keep food down anymore and they said they could prescribe something but I should go to the emergency room. I hope that the prescription would follow threw. That following day at 1am I called Walgreens to see if the prescription was ready and they said her insurance wasn't covering it and it would take 5 days to be approved. I knew she couldn't wait that long so I had no choice but to take her to the ER at her main hospital. As we got there it was hard to get her into a wheelchair because she was so weak. My brother went to ask for help and the 2 nurses helping were walking like they were taking a stroll in the park. I was freaking out, crying and they were doing everything so slow. I took the car and put it in park and as I went in to see what they were doing they were getting her checked in. I went up to a nurse and said "she needs oxygen now" my mom was already gone by then and the nurse said " she needs to get checked in!" She put something on her finger to get a heart rate and there was nothing. They took her to the back so slowly. How was this any way to be in an emergency. I had no idea what to do. I was in shock, I was terrified. I didn't know if I took her to late to the ER. I felt huge guilt on my shoulders.we waited about 20 min in the waiting room to hear from the doctors. They asked questions and I answered the best I could. 2 hours later I could finally see my mom. When I did I felt my heart break: her eyes were bulging out of her head. She was basically in a coma. And I didn't know until hours later. She could speak when we were driving there. She could see. She was AWAKE. I asked why her eyes were the way they were and they kept saying I don't know. What? I wish I knew the doctor who was "taking care" of her. He was the most disrespectful doctor I've ever met. I've done everything for my mother; I've taken her to the bathroom, I've helped her in the shower, helped her change, I've done everything and I've never seen her naked. I know how much she wanted to keep that image of her away from us. And she did. That was until these 2 doctors removed the blanket from on top of her while we were in the room with her and exposed her in front of us. No warning, no "would you like to step out" nothing. She was unconscious, with her children watching her. I left the room crying. The last words the doctor said to us was "I don't know why her eyes are that way. It could be a brain tumor. Keep holding up guys."They decided to do an MRI on her head to see if she had a brain tumor. I could feel my whole heart sink into my stomach. They told us that we needed to go to the main building and go to icu and wait there for her. We did as such but we're stopped by one of the ladies in the main entrance. We stated that our mother is in the icu and they told us to wait there for her and she replied with "no visitors until 1130." I said " Oh but they said we could wait there." She replied with "well that's just not the case." I didn't know what to do except just go home and wait 3 excruciatingly long hours to come back.30 minutes later i am back home and call the hospital to see if the results for the MRI came back but nothing yet. I prayed everything would be okay. I finally get a call back later and it's my moms nurse telling me my mom just got back from the MRI but that she's doing very badly. When I last saw her they told me her vitals were getting better. How could everything change after only an hour. I wasn't even there next to her. They told me they would call me back with the results. I wait and wait but still nothing. I finally fell asleep at 930 in the morning, until I was awakened by a call from my mothers ICU doctor at 1030. She told my my mother didn't have a lot of time and that I needed to come because her results came back and she had multiple tumors in her brain. Her ovarian cancer had spread. I told her that I was sent home by the ladies at the front desk and she said "I'm so sorry that happened, you can come now and I will have them send you up since this is critical." The ride to the hospital was torture. As we went inside I went to the front desk and said I was here to see my mother and once again I was told that visitation is at 1130.
