Turns out it was empty because it was nearly closing time, but they still happily made me a delicious mocha (I couldn't decide if I wanted coffee or hot chocolate in the end) and even directed me to have a look around up the back of their shop while I was there. Turns out they have a craft workshop up the back, and sell all sorts of goodies from funky embroidery kits to recycled yarn to vintage style clothing patterns to origami paper to hand made colouring in books! They hold regular workshops in the space which is a concept that I absolutely love. I picked up a few gifts in time for Christmas while I was there. They use local organic milk, and locally-sourced in-season produce wherever possible. And the coffee is excellent! The cafe had a lovely feel to it, and friendly staff, and a range of inviting looking sweet treats on display - I think I'll have to go back and sample a few! I was really impressed by this place, and I'm so glad I stopped by!

I entered a warm bustling cafe which was already quite full due to large table that had been reserved. Staff however found me a table in the corner and brought over some water straight away. The cafe is connected to a homewares store which is interesting. Apparently this cafe seemed to be the only one open as people kept rolling in with lots of takeaway orders and my order for an extra hot skinny dirty chai became delayed. When it arrived it was lukewarm and but delicious. Though I had ordered a large it didn't have two shots of espresso in it which was disappointing Their menu had lots of interesting options. I got the truffle mushrooms. My dish was delectable. Large fried Portobello mushrooms in some pesto sauce with crispy enoki. Delicious crunchy soft sourdough. Beautiful poached eggs and cherry tomatoes. Beautifully flavoured. Very filling and satisfying. And of course the presentation was equally spectacular Love the vibe. The food and the service.

They did have a slight markup for public holiday pricing but considering penalty rates, I'm totally ok with that. The coffee was beautiful, the food options were great. I had a stunning fresh salad plate with heirloom tomatoes, zucchini and kale, which came with a side of fresh bread. So good. Bryher does a trade with local growers to get a lot of their ingredients, which means they can tell you where their produce comes from. It's this kind of local spirit that makes me fall in love with cafes, so you can be sure that I'll head back to Bryher next time I'm up top.
