To provide some context, in December of 2022, our daughter's first grade teachers summoned us for a conference to discuss her progress with ELA and Mathematics. At this point in time, they were very concerned that she was not performing at grade level and even attempted to hand us a packet for special education to consider it for our daughter. We decided to push back, asked for six months to work with her and tutors before proceeding down that path. We first attempted Varsity tutors, but it just did not meet our needs. Then we found Ms. Payton and Mrs. Anu, and something magical happened. Within a few sessions, her teachers started making comments about her wonderful progress. By March 2023 (the date we set for a follow-up on her progress), her teachers could not stop raving about her progress. Fast forward to her final conference in June, and she surpassed all of their expectations and is now on track to be ready for second grade. What has stuck out the most is their repeated comments of how much confidence she has now. Because they have provided her with the tools to work through ELA and Mathematics, our daughter actually enjoys it now (before she would cry at the mention of either). She even walks around with a notebook practicing equations all on her own! If you are considering tutoring for your child, do not look any further!

The kids who were the tutors were goofing around instead of helping her. It's great that they are trying to teach the teens responsibility by having them tutor, but they need supervision. We talked to them several times about this and each time they promised to fix it, with no improvement. In short the tutors are just high schoolers, and without supervision they are just babysitters. My daughter was so excited to get her grades up, and was crushed that they let her down.

I completely agree with Shauna K., the independent learning skills my kids have learned might out way the actually knowledge they have learned. I have a degree from Chaminade University, HI in School Counseling and I have piloted several educational programs. The Kumon system is a fantastic program that fosters deliberate practice and challenges your child at their appropriate level. There are no children left behind at Kumon. I am also very impressed by the younger tutors, my children work with. It is a wonderful way to incorporate mentorship.

Both of my kids are learning skills that are beyond their current grade level, but more importantly, they've mastered a foundation of knowledge to grow upon. Kumon, Ms. Yumi, and her helpers have taught my children to be self-starters AND time management. To me, that's just as important as the math skills they've learned. After wanting additional support we found Jack and Huyen in our neighborhood with Think and decided the sooner the better. The program Jack has started her on these past nine months has found her finishing first grade at reading level. We all couldn't possibly be any more proud of her and pleased with the services Think provides. The best part is that our daughter is proud of herself. Her progress in reading is readily apparent and now it has become a joy in that she actually looks forward to reading. My son has attended this co-op preschool for about a year, and he gets so much out of it. I love…read morethat it meets on Saturday mornings, which means his dad can attend with him. It is so awesome to see pics of my two guys building ramps together or cuddling during story time, and my fella really loves seeing our son grow and change along with the other kids in the class. The second thing I adore about our class is the talent: our teacher, Monica, is actually an opera singer, and she brings her beautiful singing to every circle time. Anyone who's heard a group of parents droning along to a song knows what a blessing a gifted teacher can be. Monica also provides a very laid back, attachment friendly style. When my son was scared of one of the circle time routines, she altered the practice to help him adjust, and she came up with clever ideas to help ease him into the routines of preschool. We also have a gifted "parent educator" who doesn't cram education down our throats but offers ad hoc support, tips and understanding. Third pro is the mixed ages. Any kid 1 - 3 years old can enroll. The bigger kids learn sibling skills and get to show off for the littler ones, and the younger ones get to copy bigger kids. It's a fascinating process to observe how fast the little ones learn. Finally, I love that I feel comfortable and at home in our class. The class doesn't operate along gender lines, which makes it feel queer friendly. The other parents who attend with their kids are friendly and open. Our teacher has a lot to do with that atmosphere. Cons? As I see it, this preschool's only flaw is that the co-op is perhaps too laid-back about organizing, which means we hover on the brink of under-enrollment. In short, I couldn't recommend our Saturday preschool more. Even though my own son is close to aging out, I hope the class will continue for many more years because it is so wonderful.

We love this Saturday morning coop preschool where parents get to play with their babies and other…read moresimilarly aged families. The stars of the show are the wonderful teacher Monica and Parent Educator Glenn. They are immensely wise and talented and gifted teachers. Thanks to the wonderful Monica and Glenn we have beautiful animated singing during circle time, ukulele-playing and sign language instruction too! We look forward to Saturday mornings in preschool because of these great teachers and fun multilingual families. We'll be sad to age out (though it won't be for a while) . . . hopefully by then the age range will be expanded so our son can continue to have fun being part of this community.

Our family has worked with NWES for the last 4+ years. We started when our son needed a proctored…read moreexam for the online ed advanced Algebra class he took over the summer before starting high school and he continued to work regularly/weekly with NWES tutor Jason on various things for which he needed guidance over the 4 years in high school. Their sessions were centered on strategy and learning how to organize and develop good study habits and while content teaching was a part of it, our son's growth into a confident student was the most important benefit. The last session with Jason is next week. Our son will be graduating from Ballard High School next Wednesday (with straight As) and in fall he is starting at UW Engineering - majoring in MechEng and Industrial Design. My husband and I are very grateful to Greg and Jason for all the support in last 4+ years. It was really great to know that even though our sone would not really listen to us, Jason will likely get through him and point him in the right direction.
