Sweetie's Art Bar is a bar for regulars, that much was evident when I stopped by as a visitor to San Francisco. The service was great, the atmosphere was more than what I expected, in a good way, and all the local regulars were friendly. There is free billiards, and the prices for drinks is typical for the area circa 2026. Four pints of beer ran me ~30$. You can smoke outside on the patio. Closing time is flexible, but listed rather early. I stayed around 15 minutes after the official closing time and the place was still hoping. I had a great time. read more

Met with an extremely rude bartender. She thought my government issued ID was fake and hesitated to even give it back to me. Keep in mind I'm 24 as was everyone in my group. She refused to make us a double and stated she "wouldn't be able to make it through the rest of her shift" if we stayed and claimed there were better places for us to go. As if we were doing anything other than drinking, chatting and laughing. Made us feel bad for stepping foot into the establishment even though we did nothing wrong. Bartender was unnecessarily rude. 10pm friday night we ordered one round and were laughing, she told us we were cut off and said we should find a different place to drink. Called my friends real ID bullsh*t and rolled her eyes at us all night. Said rude things about us to other patrons. We were super kind, not loud or inappropriate. Closed out the tab after one round and tipped. Then were told to leave because she wasnt gonna make it thru her shift with us there. Sooooo ridiculously rude i cant even find the words to describe how unwelcoming and cold and unprofessional her behavior and attitude was. So disappointing... other customers were telling us shes their friend and to ignore her because shes just jealous. Thats so weird to me. Omg how much fun was this place. I just did another review about a bar, and it was a bit boring. We arrived here before they opened, one bartender for the evening! Crazy right! This is definitely a neighborhood bar cause everyone seemed to know each other. Everyone walking buy was waving to others, even an ex coworker back in the day, I saw... it's been 20 years. This place feels like a speakeasy but with none of that other stuff. All the walls are covered with stuff, lots and lots of stuff. The bar itself looked like it sat maybe 10 people at most. The place didn't feel that big. They do have a pool table and a couple of cute places to sit and have an intimate conversation. They have a parklet and a couple of tables right in front. People were nice but you can tell this place makes strong drinks, they were all pretty tipsy. They do have food, but it's very minimal, and yes it was again just the bartender having to deal with everything. They had small bar items, a small little kitchen, with an oven to make pizzas. They have a great drink menu, the specials are on the board. I had their basil daiquiri and let me tell you! Yum!! It was perfect, had great flavor. Just the right amount of sweetness, made with love. Whenever someone thinks of daiquiri, they think of a mixed, slushy, drink with whip cream.. this is an original daiquiri This place was reasonably priced, about 10 bucks a drink! Crazy for the city.. been paying $18-$20 for a cocktail! My favorite part was the Buddha! You have to come in and immediately rub his belly! read more

Stumbled upon this bar after walking back from dinner. Not hard to miss at night since all the holiday lights. Has a lot of unique art inside. Love the stone Buda Statue. It is dark and eclectic in here. The bartender was annoying like the soup Nazi on Seinfeld but cute. Not sure if she is Sweetie. Beer selection was Ok. They look to be better at cocktails. I just LOVE this place, even when you're a block away you see their gleaming green lights almost like a mirage awaiting...but it's not! It's sweeties bar! free pool, nice simple food selection (I've only ever tried their bowl of olives, so good) and usually a nice rotation of art to either buy or just marvel at. Bartenders are super casual and down to earth, reminiscent of a faraway SF that still exists in this establishment. I believe they have live music every first Friday of the month in the parklet area out front. Really nice but easy to miss gem in north beach. read more

My bf, cousin, and I stopped by here after work. We were looking for a chill, dive bar and this place was perfect! Ambiance: It's dive-y but still looks nice. No weird smells or overly sticky floors or tables. There was a group at the bar and a few people playing pool. There was also a very cute dog there who loved sitting next to us as we ate dinner. Service: The bartender was welcoming and friendly. We ordered our drinks and food at the bar and she brought everything out in a timely manner. Drinks: I had the Sweeties Sling and Basil Daiquiri. Both were good, the latter was stronger. I'm sure they can make anything you ask. Food: We ordered a Mushroom and Sausage pizza, the Shepherd's Pie, and Mac 'n Cheese. The pizza was solid. I liked that it was super cheesy. The Mac 'n cheese was good too. The top middle got burnt though so we ate around that. I wasn't too sure about the shepherd's pie because I'm more of a chicken pot pie girl, but it was really good! It's green from the tarragon (I'm assuming) in the potatoes which we didn't know beforehand, so it looks odd but trust me..it's tasty! I would come back for a chill night. What's an "Art Bar"? I have no clue, but whatever the definition is, I like this one because it is in my neighborhood and it has been a wonderful gathering place for neighbors, locals and visitors. On an average day (COVID era being an exception) there is a crowd standing or sitting on chairs outside engaged in conversations. Inside there is a long bar, where I would prefer to park my rear end, and a couple of tables. They also have a pool table inside. The Bar Tenders are just awesome, especially if you get to know them. And even more importantly, they make awesome drinks. You can also order some snacks. Bar snacks include pizza, black bean and cheese dip with chips, roasted cashews. So I walked into this bar and sat at the counter. I have trouble seeing so I ask the bartender what beers they have on draft. She replies, "they are right in front of you" I then inform her I cant see the names of beers on the taps. She then pours a beer and hands it to me. I ask, is this what I am supposed to drink? This bar was so perfect, I felt like maybe if I went back, I wouldn't even be able to find it. Did I dream it? Did that really happen? Who can say? My sister and I were staying at a hotel in Fisherman's Wharf while my brother was in the hospital at UCSF. We had some time to burn, and we definitely needed all the drinks, so we went walking. I think maybe we had actually said we were going to Trader Joe's to get healthy snacks. But the universe provided for us, and we stumbled into Sweetie's. I spent my wild and wonderful twenties traipsing across the world, finding all the best bars. Now, not only am I not going out because I'm an old married lady with two kids and a mortgage, but I haven't been going anywhere because of the pandemic. So to sit at a bar, staring up at the friendly rows of bottles... it really felt like something from another lifetime. The drinks were perfect, the company was even better. The food looked great, and we were even offered to try something by the sweet guy we'd been chatting with. Maybe back in that old lifetime I would have sampled it. But I was so content to sip my mule, visit with locals, chat with my sister, and watch a little bit of the SF crowd go by on a rainy afternoon. Our lives changed a lot after this day, so in some ways even this feels like a lifetime ago. This seems like a bar for the locals who live in the immediate area. We stopped by for cocktails before heading to Cobb's Comedy Club and the drinks were so strong we barely finished them (with the help of ice water). I'm used to drinking strong old fashioneds, manhattans, dry martinis, etc., but the drinks here seemed like 2 shots shaken with ice and added bitters! This place is a relic of a bygone era. You won't find super expensive craft beers or girls with tank tops behind the bar. What you'll get is a stiff drink and some pretty standard beers on tap. Their guest beer is Anchor California lager, so you're not exactly talking super craft. Beers are super cheap during happy hour, the bartender doesn't wear gloves, and you get stale chips. It's divey, and there's a kitschy Buddha statue next to the pool table. Not complaining though. Sometimes, you just need a place like this to clear your head. So after a day of being a tourist and wandering the streets of San Francisco, I turned to the hubby and said, lets get a drink! And after a quick Yelp! search via our iPhone apps it came up with Sweeties - which happened to be 2 blocks away. Perfect! Friendly bartender, lots of ladies chatting at the bar and a couple with the baby in the corner - basically a nice neighborhood joint. Kinda dark, kinda small, but drinks were cheap ($16 bucks+ tip got us 2 Guinnesses and a couple vodka tonics) and the atmosphere was laid back. It short it worked perfectly for our needs! Go for the Aviation or a dirty martini. In terms of food, if you're looking for a snack, try their nuts. I hear their pizza is decent as well. I gave Sweetie's Art Bar five stars back in 2006 when a pint of beer was apparently $2.50. While those days and prices are gone, Sweetie's is still one of the cheaper bars in the city, and I love it even more now that I've been back several times. It's one of my favorite bars in the city. The bartender, Randy, is always really friendly and easy to chat with. With even something as simple as a whiskey soda, he'll make sure you get it exactly how you want it. The cocktails here are also pretty good; I really liked the stiff Rumhattan (a Manhattan with rum instead of whiskey). A pretzel fanatic, I was happy to discover that they sell $5 pretzels here. While not as good as a fresh German brezel, they are cheap, big and salty. I'll probably get one each time I'm here. It is a good thing that this bar is approximately one hour away from me on public transportation or else I would be a regular and would not be nearly as productive in life. I was spending a fabulous Saturday afternoon in the city with my good friend, Jen B, and we had some time to kill before meeting my fiance, Jac C, and her brother, Jason B, for dinner at Melt. We checked yelp to find a bar near Melt and Sweeties came up as one of the highest rated. Sweeties was the perfect pre-dinner spot to sit and chat and have a cocktail. This bar is laid back, cozy and entertaining. The bartender (Amy, I believe) was super nice, attentive and mixed us up some delicious drinks. The other patrons were nice and very welcoming of us newbies. The roasted cashews are delicious and well worth the $3. Amy apologized for having to charge us but we completely understood. Nuts are expensive! I love that they buy cashews and then season and roast them there. The women's bathroom is spacious and clean. I cannot report back on the men's bathroom since I did not go in there. I am not sporty but they have a pool table for those of you that are. read more
