My friend and I were in the Marina after an event at Fort Mason, and were looking for a low-key bar to get a drink. Fortunately, we were lucky to stumble across Horseshoe Tavern, as it immediately gave across a welcoming and comfortable vibe. Although there was only one bartender working the bar which was packed with a lot of people watching the Kentucky Derby, the service was incredible and the bartender immediately acknowledged us and took our order. We ended up getting two rounds, and again the bartender was super prompt and attentive with service when we went back inside for round two. This is a fantastic dive bar in the Marina District! It has a great vibe, reasonably priced draft beers, and an awesome $10 beer-and-shot special. The staff is professional and does a great job maintaining the right atmosphere. We caught the World Cup on their many screens and loved the overall ambiance. Popped in for a few quick drinks before a show at the Palace of Fine Arts. A group of friendly doggies were chilling and greeting everyone that walked thru the entrance. Inside was a bit dim but it was lively and had two pool tables in the back and a photo booth. They have various different deals on drinks and even had a special seltzer dedicated to dogs that were displaced during the LA Fires. We love this place! My partner and I discovered it when we were checking out the city to see if we would move here. Over 2.5 years later, we live in the city, and The Shoe is one of our favorite spots for dive-bar-meets-sports-bar vibes. Their drinks are cheap (for the neighborhood), the pours are generous, and all the bartenders make you feel at home. We love this spot so much we did a photo shoot for my cousin's engagement here!! Solid "locals" bar in the Marina. Friendly bartenders, cute little parklet, great tunes, and a decent selection of beers on draft. Beers were $7 each, but it's the Marina, so it was expected. There's a really cool mural above the bar, didn't get a picture but that alone is worth a stop to Horseshoe. This is an Old School Bar that is a pretty basic watering hole to grab drinks, watch sports and play pool. This place goes back to 1934 - One of the Post-Prohibition Bars. It is one of the best low key bars on Chestnut Street in the the Marina District. Given the neighborhood, this is a pretty unpretentious spot to grab a beer or two when you're in this neck of the woods. This is a drinkers bar. I am by no means a regular, but I can tell that there is a high regular presence. They have a nice pool area in the back with two tables. It sorta reminds my of Gino and Carlo. I usually just catch a Giants game or some Football. I have recently fallen in LOVE with the NBA and I just noticed they are a Celtics Bar, which is my adopted Eastern Conference team. I may propose that they institute a $2 discount if you wear Celtics gear. (Just bought a Jae Crowder jersey shirt on Clearance since he's now a Cavalier) So, they got that going for them, which is nice. $7 for a Beer is too much. It's also The Marina, so at busy times it can lurch towards Marina-ee pretty quick. But, given that statement, this bar gets voted least likely to go Full Marina Obnoxious and feels the most San Francisco of the spots in this area. read more
