The Horseshoe Tavern has been our neighborhood watering hole for over 16 years, and at this point, it feels a lot more like family than just a bar. So many memories have been made here -- birthdays, celebrations, nights out with friends and family, and plenty of random evenings that turned into some of the best ones. We've also made friendships here that have lasted for years. It's one of those rare neighborhood bars where you can walk in, see familiar faces, bring your dog, grab a drink, and immediately feel at home. I was especially honored to be asked to guest bartend for The Equal Pour, an event celebrating 55 years of women being able to bartend in California. It was such a fun and meaningful day, and San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie even stopped by to celebrate with everyone. And because the Horseshoe always seems to have a good story attached to it, we were also there when the Budweiser Clydesdales came by to deliver beer -- definitely one of those only-in-San-Francisco neighborhood moments. The staff here has always treated us like family, and that's what keeps us coming back year after year. No pretension, no fuss -- just good people, a great neighborhood atmosphere, dogs welcome, and a place that has been part of our lives for well over a decade. My friend and I were in the Marina after an event at Fort Mason, and were looking for a low-key bar to get a drink. Fortunately, we were lucky to stumble across Horseshoe Tavern, as it immediately gave across a welcoming and comfortable vibe. Although there was only one bartender working the bar which was packed with a lot of people watching the Kentucky Derby, the service was incredible and the bartender immediately acknowledged us and took our order. We ended up getting two rounds, and again the bartender was super prompt and attentive with service when we went back inside for round two. Overall, this place is a gem, especially being in the Marina. Down to earth and comforting vibe. Highly recommend if you're looking for a nice watering hole or a place to play pool. read more

This is a fantastic dive bar in the Marina District! It has a great vibe, reasonably priced draft beers, and an awesome $10 beer-and-shot special. The staff is professional and does a great job maintaining the right atmosphere. We caught the World Cup on their many screens and loved the overall ambiance. Even with the games on, the volume inside wasn't overwhelming, so it was easy to hear each other and enjoy some friendly banter. Highly recommend! read more

Horseshoe Tavern earns five stars for being exactly what you want a neighborhood bar to be -- welcoming, unpretentious, and somehow both chill and chaotic in the best possible way. First of all, this place is **extremely dog-friendly**. Not "we tolerate dogs" friendly -- **"your dog might become more popular than you" friendly**. There's a steady rotation of very good boys and girls hanging out, accepting compliments, and occasionally judging your drink choices. Honestly, you may come for a beer and stay because a golden retriever made eye contact with you. The bartenders are fast, funny, and seem to have mastered the art of knowing when you need another drink before you do. The drinks are strong enough to make you text people you haven't spoken to in years, but not so strong that you regret your life choices (usually). It's the kind of bar where: * You plan to "just stop in for one." * You end up talking to three strangers, two dogs, and possibly a bartender about the Giants. * Suddenly it's closing time and you're emotionally invested in someone's labradoodle named Kevin. Popped in for a few quick drinks before a show at the Palace of Fine Arts. A group of friendly doggies were chilling and greeting everyone that walked thru the entrance. Inside was a bit dim but it was lively and had two pool tables in the back and a photo booth. They have various different deals on drinks and even had a special seltzer dedicated to dogs that were displaced during the LA Fires. There was only one bartender and maybe 30+ patrons of all ages but she was doing a great job and had a positive attitude. Overall would love to come back and support this place again. read more

I've been stopping in "The Shoe" for pool the past few weeks. The single bar table is $1 in quarters. The cues are a bit warped, but so is my game lately. Haha! We love this place! My partner and I discovered it when we were checking out the city to see if we would move here. Over 2.5 years later, we live in the city, and The Shoe is one of our favorite spots for dive-bar-meets-sports-bar vibes. Their drinks are cheap (for the neighborhood), the pours are generous, and all the bartenders make you feel at home. We love this spot so much we did a photo shoot for my cousin's engagement here!! 2nd Review: Very Responsive and Responsible Management A fun dive bar in the Marina The main reason I am posting this second review is that the owner and manager of the Horseshoe were very helpful when I complained of a racist customer and incident in the bar. At first I was very angry, but the owner and manager banned the troublesome guest and profusely apologized and batched up the situation. Solid "locals" bar in the Marina. Friendly bartenders, cute little parklet, great tunes, and a decent selection of beers on draft. Beers were $7 each, but it's the Marina, so it was expected. There's a really cool mural above the bar, didn't get a picture but that alone is worth a stop to Horseshoe. I live on the east coast but this place will get all of my money every time I come back (my sister lives here, I visit often). I had dropped a family claddagh ring between boards on their outdoor bar. The bartender offered to drill and lift a board out for us and we asked for just a wire hanger to fish around. A local walked by and offered to come back with tools. After 45 minutes of digging, the ring was found. The bartender gave us a round of free shots. The crowd cheered.
