Examples: - the lockers have electronic number pads to enter your own code - sauna and steam room are connected at the end of the male and female toilets - the bathroom have change rooms with benches, not just showers and toilets - the general decor is focused on dark (with many a splash of neon colour) which makes it feel more private for workouts and cooler - the group fitness room is huge - the group fitness timetable is huge - an on site coffee shop The only issue I had is with one staff member at the front desk. I'm going to let it slide in my rating because everything else is amazing. I don't want to sound like an old fogy, but what is it with kids these days and their terrible, terrible lack of customer service? *shakes head* I restate, though, that was one person at an amazing club.

I allowed my "partner" of these past Two Years living in Brisbane to pretty much destroy my motivation at this Gym, specifically. Take advantage of the great Personal Trainers at this Gym Who spend their time with their noses in books and bettering their knowledge to better themselves so They can help You! Don't let my mistake be your mistake. Many other Gyms wouldn't care about personal issue(s) like mine affecting their ability to enter and exercise at this Gym. This Gym, however, does care. I encourage Anyone to work with a Personal Trainer at this Gym specifically to REALLY maximize your potential and see how amazing that "next level" can enhance a person's mood and enrich a positive perspective in life. Don't let the hater(s) win! The better You do and the more members enroll and develop a healthy addiction to exercise, the better the world is - in my opinion. Train hard. smile harder!

I found the staff also welcoming (most of them). My problem with the gym stated very early. First ive joined just of for one month to see how i go. Before i knew i was on a 12 month contract which i was not told when i signed the first time. Probably he did not lie and it was a convenient omission! Now after a year when i moved to Sydney i cancelled my membership, but the direct debit is still going on until april 2013 they say "because it was in the contract!" It is otherwise a good gym, but be very careful with the money part of things and read the contract very carefully dont trust anyone.

I used to be a member at Fitness First Lutwyche. When I signed up I'd never been to another gym…read morebefore and was impressed by this one's large space, pool, and sheer number of machines. After a few visits, I was beginning to dread the gym more than one usually does. Not because of the whole exercising thing (though god knows that's bad enough) but because this gym was just SO crowded. Since leaving Fitness First and going to a few other gyms, I now realise just how over-full it was. Fitness First Lutwyche is sort of the battery farm of gyms. You're packed in with so many other people, often find yourself waiting in a queue for a particular machine, and no matter how hard the air-con works it can't fight the mass body heat at peak times so it can get pretty stuffy in there. The service was great at first but once they had my signature and direct debit details their attempts at personalised and welcoming service waned. I'm glad that I branched out in the gym world and found others that made trips to the gym less daunting.

I registered for a 3 day free trial through their website, so I could get a feel for Goodlife…read moreChermside and I ended up signing up the next day. That's how much I liked it. Goodlife gym in Chermside has been open now for about 5 years and is still going strong. Being located in the shopping centre has its disadvantages, especially with the parking situation at Chermside, but I can walk from home in about 20 minutes and I think I'll avoid driving there on weekends to avoid the parking nightmare. The rooftop parking near the gym entrance is actually not too bad during the week, as most cars tend to avoid this tucked away corner of the rooftop. The gym itself is pretty damn swish. It is really huge. Rows and rows of cardio equipment, all in pretty decent condition. All the machines have TV screens and you can watch one of the many stations playing or you can plug in your iPhone or iPad using the plug to watch or listen to your own stuff. There's a ladies-only area too, which has a few cardio machines, pin weights and free weights. It's nice to have this little space in case the guys in the main weights area intimidate you. All new members get a free training session with a trainer, who goes over your goals and puts together a workout plan. You get another session every 8 weeks to review and update your workout, which is a nice feature that many chain gyms don't offer. Goodlife at Chermside have just started offering Home Memberships, which is a cheaper weekly rate but means you don't have access to every Goodlife around Brisbane. But you can always upgrade your membership later on, if you need this access. The timetable of classes is pretty impressive too. The summer timetable has 43 classes and 12 cycle classes over a week, at various times throughout the day from 5:45am to 7:45pm. Both the cycle room and the class room are really large, so I think you would always get a spot even during peak time. They also have a sauna and steam room, and have child-minding services from 8am to midday every day except Sunday, and 4pm to 8pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. A new feature is the TRX Suspension Training, which Goodlife in Chermside offers. Most of the trainers are now TRX qualified, and you train in small teams.

Behind the slick site, shiny exterior and fancy seating area are facilities that aren't properly maintained for years. Broken fitness equipment takes weeks to "get back to full fitness", including safety issues like sharp cables and loose barbel ends! The tennis courts are the worst in Brisbane, full of cracks, fences full of holes and sharp edges within players' reach. Things only got worse over the years, no improvement in sight. Nighttime pool lighting is poor since the shade sail was removed. The concrete behind the pool fence is very sharp on the feet and there are no dress facilities at the pool. (requiring walking through the entire facility in your towel) Promises of new equipment and resurfacing of courts have yet to be met. I would think twice before joining Coops now, especially with new members paying double the rate of long term members and when you see the prices in that fancy lounge area.

"T-Zone", "Table top", were two new things I learnt whilst doing my first ever Pilates Class. I'm…read moremore of a gym, weights, cardio, high-intensity-interval-training (HIIT), kind of person but was persuaded to give Pilates a go. This class in particular was a Pilates-Reformer class, so I was reassured that it involved resistance training. After arriving at Posture plus Fitness at 69 Byron Street Bulimba, I was impressed with the set-up in the studio. There was plenty of space, yet, it felt intimate. The room was very modern, simple, clean and open. It's well ventilated and cool. Big mirrors stretch along the wall as you walk in, which is used in the classes. There are 3 big reformer machines along the back of the room as well as other various equipment she has available to use. I liked the fact that it was really just the two of us in the class, along with Trish the instructor. No crowds, which makes for a more personalised session. Trish, is a very friendly and knowledgeable Pilates instructor, and I felt right at home. Trish explained all the movements and how to use the reformer, and was there from start to finish. I learnt that "T-Zone", is an area you squeeze, (your abdomen and pelvic floor) by placing your fingers on the hip bone. "Table Top" is a position you adopt by raising your legs (knees bent) so that it is parallel to the floor. In fact, we essentially had our own personal trainer in Trish. Pilates on the reformer machine was quite challenging, and resistance is increased using a set of springs. Each rep and movement is focused on a specific area of your body, your core, quads, abs, biceps, triceps etc and I worked out my whole body. The best way I can describe to the boys who love the gym and weights, is that Pilates on the reformer machine is like, going to the gym and doing weights, but you are using your own body weight as resistance, and ensuring your form is perfect as you complete each rep. It's quite challenging, but feels like a form of meditation too. I think it's a great way to compliment your gym sessions, and keep your weekly schedule interesting. It keeps your muscles toned, and maintains your strength. Each Class goes for an hour, and Trish is fantastic because unlike some gyms out there where some of my girlfriends had been to before, Trish works on each individual. I am hoping this doesn't ever change, but I'm sure that the more popular this studio becomes, this level of service will be hard to come by. The classes are also affordable, as I've signed up to do 3 more classes for $35. In today's world where we are all working longer hours with not much time for ourselves, with more stress in our lives, Posture Plus Fitness can be that one hour of escape where we are giving back to ourselves for our mind, body and soul. I highly recommend Trish and this studio. For more information on prices, classes and packages, visit postureplusfitness.com.au.

The equipment is in really good nick and I love that the cardio equiptment all has individual screens that means you can watch your secret shame tv shows like home and away while going for a casual job on the treddy. The change rooms are a clean and well maintained and if you prefer privacy, instead of public nuding up, they will delight you. There is also an infrared sauna which I am sure has some great health benefits other than making you sweaty. Breakfast is provided in the mornings, and there are always pieces of fruit and orange segments available, as well as icy cold face washers in the fridge which are great for neutralising bright red exercise face after a hectic spin class. Firstly, I am coming here only for pregnancy exercise classes as I am no longer able to do my normal training under doctors orders :( I do have to say that the pregnancy exercise classes held here are very good and the instructors are lovely. That being said, I will talk about the gym itself - it is old, tired, on the small side and in desperate need of a makeover ... oh and the bathrooms could do with some cleaning and sprucing up! The equipment has seen better days, the TV's are the older style of TV's (not the nice flat screens you get everywhere else), the air conditioning does not work very well and the group fitness rooms are the tiniest I have ever seen - even the group fitness rooms in gyms in Stanthorpe are bigger! The bathrooms only have 4 showers and two toilets which, for a female only gym, I personally think is not good enough. They do have real hand towels to dry your hands with but these are often wet and I would prefer not to touch them. On the plus side - the gym is open 24 hours a day, they have a full working kitchen, fruit available all day, cool face washers available to cool down with after your workout and the staff seem quite pleasant.
