I didn't realise this place is actually a chain, but I guess this just means you're more likely to find a bagels and beans in close proximity when the hunger pangs hit. The ingredients are simple and it has a very relaxed atmosphere, I'd liken this almost to a Starbucks but with way better food. Feel free to bring you're laptop to do work, bring the kids while you have a catch up with friends (its quite child friendly, small play area included) or just sit and slam down a bagel before checking out the sights.

It's a lovely spacious Starbucks with room for working - I often see people having informal meetings, working on laptops or even skyping in here! I've never seen it over crowded or without a seat early in the morning and no matter what drink I order, it's always ready within 5mins irrespective of queue. There's not often a queue before 7:30 at least. The baristas are nice and friendly and have impressed me by remembering my name. My New Years Resolution might be to cut back on the Starbucks!! ;)

The overall look/feel of the store is similar to any Albert Heijn, my purpose of visiting this store was to return my remaining plastic bottles and cans for the statigeld on the final day of my trip to Amsterdam, it was fairly easy to get in and out of the store, and find the machine. The staff members seemed friendly, and spoke English, the self check-out machines also had an English option so were very easy to use. Again with AH pretty much having a monopoly on the grocery scene in The Netherlands, there isn't really much to compare the prices to, but the prices seemed in line and no more expensive than other Albert Heijns around the city. 4* - Pretty good Albert Heijn, it was clean and easy to find what I was looking for, and the location is pretty decent too.

They have a good variety of international candies and teas. Once heading to the check out, things get a little unusual for a tourist. They do not accept American credit cards. Your debit card needs to have a "chip" for their machines. I suggest using cash Euros and go through a service lane with a cashier. If you are with others who are not making a purchase, they will need to exit with your register receipt of have a service person let you out of the lane because there is a guard rail that is locked by the registers. I think that this grocery store reminds me of an Aldi's and Whole Foods combined.
