My experience with this veterinary clinic was absolutely amazing. I was three hours away from home with my bearded dragon that I recently rescued. Unfortunately, we had an emergency situation where she started breathing heavily. All of the other veterinary clinics, unfortunately could not take exotic animals. When I called Switzer veterinary clinic they kindly answered my call and got me right in. When I arrived, Stacy from the front desk quickly paged a nurse to come upfront to take my pet back. Shortly after taking her back, they got us in a room and discussed care with us. The vet tech Sam was so kind and took the time to examine her and ask background questions. Dr. Knight came in shortly and examined my pet and we discussed care. We ended up getting her an x-ray, subcutaneous fluids and started her on some antibiotics. I am now home with my rescue and she is doing so much better. I took her to her exotic vet today and they said If it weren't for their interventions, she would've died. I would like to thank everyone there and I am soso grateful!! They talked through costs of treatment and everything was transparent. While we sat in the waiting room, I was able to observe the way the staff treated other patients. They were so kind and treated the dogs and cats with love and care. They treated the owners with respect and kindness as well. They were very transparent with how busy the clinic was to everybody.I wholeheartedly am thankful for everyone involved in this process and kudos for them too because that was a really long day and I could tell the clinic was busy. I want to thank this wonderful vet clinic for seeing our Fievel on June 1st. We were in Oscoda MI on vacation and four hours after we arrived from Ohio our sweet Collie boy became gravely ill. I called several well rated vets in Tawas, Lincoln and Whittemore but no one could take us in so I started calling farther away from our rental home and was very fortunate to find Switzer Veterinary Clinic. They squeezed us in that afternoon and took excellent care of our Fievel. He was in serious condition and Dr. Marek ran bloodwork and x-rays and other diagnostics to try to find what was going wrong. She stabilized him so that we could drive back to Ohio that evening and get him to our vet and possibly MedVet. Her genuine compassion and concern for Fievel was obvious and we were in good hands. We unfortunately had to send Fievel to the bridge the next day back in Ohio but we will always be grateful that Dr. Marek and Switzer Veterinary Clinic cared about an out of state, non client dog as it were regular client. Our regular vet was impressed at what all was done for our boy and how thorough she was. That is a vet/vet office that is dedicated to animals and cares about doing the right thing. It is awful to be so far from home when your pet gets sick and you don't know any local vets or who to trust. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your help and concern. I brought my cat in because he had lost weight and wouldn't eat. The vet Dr. Lewis who I do not recommend suggested we put him to sleep without even knowing what was wrong just because he was in poor condition and 15 years old and I needed to decide right then. I insisted on treatment and he ate a little and acted playful for awhile after his 1st treatment. His 2nd treatment, he was given a drug without my permission. This drug is known for causing kidney failure but yet was given to a cat with kidney disease. It is mostly meant for treating skin infections which he did not have. I've read many things about this drug being too strong. My cat's condition worsened after that but the vet rudely argued with me that she told me he would not make it from the start. I saw a super nice vet there on Friday but it was too late. Most of the staff is compassionate and helpful there. However, I am terribly upset that I will never know if my cat could have recovered without this drug in his system. I wish I could get this vet fired and stop this drug Convenia from being misused. It should not be allowed without the pet owner knowing. I only found out from the bill and researched the drug. She was very rude about the whole thing. read more

They have cared for my pets since purchasing the practice from Dr. Lynn Switzer, who started seeing my pets in 1999, and with the help from all of the staff at the clinic, I've been lucky enough to get to share 14-1/2 and 15-1/2 years with my two oldest German Shepherd Dogs--significant ages for this breed of dog to reach with a good quality of life, and it would not have been possible without the assistance of Switzer Veterinary Clinic. I had returned to rural northeastern MI after spending 20 years in Oakland county. I had not yet found a regular vet. We had a veterinary emergency late in the evening and I was just about sure my pet was not going to make it. It's a 45 minute drive to Alpena from my remote location. At the end of the harrowing drive, Dr. Knight was there to save the day. She was professional, proficient, compassionate, and informative. She did some great triage work and kept my girl comfortable until they could perform surgery later. After a few surgeries and loads of meds and supplies, I was awaiting quite a hefty bill. When it came time to settle up I was shocked by how reasonable the rates were. After Oakland county, I had expected double or triple the amount. The facility, doctors, and staff are all top notch. They over-charge for their time while claiming to care about animals, they will not return your money even when they fail to provide basic care, they pretend to know more than they do, they all attended a university known for animal abuse, they take advantage of a technocratic system that makes it illegal for people to treat their own pets, their receptionists are rude, will hang up on you if you don't accept them telling you your animal is not in critical condition even if you tell them it is turning blue and going cold, if you ask too many questions they will act like it's none of your business, if you tell them you want to learn how to treat your exotic animals the best on your own they will act like you're insane... and tell you to get some degree... they have no problem raising their brows at you and then cackling as they walk away like some psychopath... read more

I have always had positive experiences at Switzer Vet Clinic. They are professional and compassionate and truly provide excellent care. They are very thorough and will take the time to discuss every option with you so you can make well informed decisions. It never feels rushed. They will call you to follow up and see how your pet is doing. They are experienced and knowledgeable, and I wouldn't trust anyone else with my pets. We will always go here for our needs. Dr. Knight was able to administer chemo to our dog for several months right here in town, and the staff always took great care of him. What a valuable community asset! We went to a different clinic afterward, where the vet immediately recognized the irritation, prescribed antibiotics, and advised us not to return to the original clinic. I appreciate the initial nail removal, but the follow‑up care and communication were not acceptable.brought my 75‑lb lab in after a nail removal that continued to reopen for over a month. We had a need for an emergency vet visit while up at our lake house. They were able and willing to get us in that same morning and were thorough, professional and overall - wonderful. We were able to have one of us in the room and when the labs came back and we had a heart wrenching decision to make , they were patient, informative and compassionate. They allowed both my husband and I to be in the room and gave us time to spend with our dog to say goodbye . As always a caring and loving staff, great drs. I had to have my guinea pig put to sleep and dr ryan was kind considerate and explained every step he took. I will miss my guinea pig. I can never express how happy i am with this Vet. We had an emergency and our vet was not available nor did he have a back up. We called 4 other places before we found this doctor who got us in and did all the test needed. They are kind, friendly and care about the pets they see. Although we have a long road to go for our fur baby, we are transferring both of our pets to this clinic. A 1 hour drive for us is nothing to provide for our babies.
