Ms. King, the branch manager, was very courteous and friendly. She also explained acoount features and fees to me patiently. Most importantly, Bankwell doesn't nickel-and-dimed customers to death. So far, I'm also impressed with the quality of the online and mobile banking tools and they're easy to navigate around. Furthermore, the phone bank customer supports were very help and nice. I'll provide another update after banking with Bankwell for at least a month.

The loan officer there, who was leaving to work at The First Bank of Greenwich, convinced me to apply with them instead. He promised to personally introduce me to the bank manager and a VP, which he did. At The First Bank of Greenwich, the VP required me to deposit $100K into an account in order to receive a $100K "secured" loan. Both the VP and the manager assured me that, within two weeks, this would be converted into a standard loan. That turned out to be a complete lie. Instead, they held onto my $100K for two months, during which I had no access to it, and ultimately informed me that they would not be approving any loan. When I decided to walk away and asked for my money back (I returned their $100K check, which I had never deposited elsewhere), they had the audacity to charge me $500 just to withdraw my own funds. In other words: they took $100K of my money, used it for two months, refused me the loan they promised, and then charged me $500 on the way out. I do not trust this bank and will never do business with them again.

I was minding my own business when a woman who appeared to be a manager or customer service approached me and asked what I was doing. I told her I was making a deposit. She asked if I had my debit card, I assume to tell me to use the ATM, and I told her I did not have an account at this bank, I was making an alimony payment. She then took my papers, which I thought was to do the deposit for me, as customer service has done for me in the past. She then began berating me as to what I had written on the back of the check. Since it was the same thing I had written on the back of the check for 154 months, I told her that I had been writing it for that period of time and that no one had corrected me in the past. She expressed doubt that I was being truthful. In front of people that I do not know. In public. As a representative of the bank. Therefore I walked out. I tried to go to another branch to complain about her, and they told me "just use this branch from now on". Be careful with these people. Bank of America apparently has very poor hiring, training and supervision standards if their staff are allowed to act in this manner to the public.

David finally built up the energy to reply and say good morning, the ladies continued glancing over. I just used the ATM which only offered 5's and 20's so I asked to exchange for larger bills. Just a friendly FYI....... You represent this institution as well as yourself. Be a professional! A friendly good morning or good afternoon sets the tone and goes a long way.
