The magazine area feels cramped. On the whole the prices can be a bit much and I would recommend you watch out for the 3 for 2 offers and also the vouchers they hand out at the till. If you are looking for something specialist it would have to be ordered in as they tend to only have a basic stock on most items. The store also has a good range of stationary and a limited range of DVD's, CD's and games.

Generally, they only sell chart DVD's, but at the moment there is a decent selection of DVD's at very cheap prices. Some starting at just £1. Many bargains can be found in this area. Some are even cheaper than Tesco's and the majority of them are a lot cheaper than HMV. I bought Peter Pan in WHSmith for £10, whereas in HMV it was £22. The stationary area is extensive and includes a few ranges of fashion stationary, computer peripherals and the usual range of pens, paper, art materials, childrens art materials, photo frames and albums and office adn student essentials etc. WHSmith can sometimes be expensive, but it is important to know that there are always bargains to be picked up here. A large selection of stationary is usually on sale at the front of the store, especially around Back To School times, where calculators and the like can be found at up to 75% off. The books section is an okay size and is well organised. It can still be difficult to find the book you're looking for however. It's always easier to ask, the staff are extremely friendly and happy to help. Just ask at the desk and they'll check to see if they have it in stock and they'll find it for you if they've got it. If they haven't got it, they are more than happy to order it in for you. I have ordered a few books and a few items of stationary in with them previously. The items usualy arrive within 3 days to the store with no charge for delivery. The staff are very helpful in this store and always polite and friendly. Lucky then they have a website with all the same information, plus they have a twitter feed so you can keep really up to date on whats going on. Its not a cheap looking magazine, whoever makes it really puts a lot of effort into it. I wish Cardiff had those magazine boxes on the streets that they have in London so I could get it easier.

It is a 'What's On' for South Wales, but somewhat unsurprisingly, for this Cardiff based magazine, Cardiff listings tend to dominate the publication. Of course, the fact that South Wales doesn't have another city anywhere near the scale of Cardiff is another reason why it features so prominently. I have been consistently amazed by Buzz. Their listings are accurate, their features are well researched and well written, and their website is packed full of info and regularly updated. I don't know how they do it! The best thing about Buzz is that it's free. You can pick up a copy from loads of places around the city of Cardiff, but it's not so easy to find places that stock it further afield. Art Centres tend to be a sure bet. I even found a copy at the Art Centre in Pontardawe. Impressive!

It's been running for 15 years now, and aims to provide student listeners with decent music and up-to-date hourly news plus information on issues that are important to them. During the daytime, there's usually more mainstream content such as chart music, competitions, features and general banter - then after 6pm there's more specialist music, whether it's jazz or new, emerging talent. On Sundays they have some talking radio - with political debates, comedy, and so on - from 10am to 3pm. Then at 3pm there's a student chart countdown compiled by a collaboration of various universities across the country. For journalism students at Cardiff, and particularly those studying broadcasting, the radio station provides an opportunity to gain some practical experience and something to stick on your CV - although volunteering opportunities are open to students of all disciplines, not just the journalists!
