I was walking down the hall and a random girl 5 fingered me, all the way in. The school did nothing about it, other than giving me forced counseling. This school did not deserve even 1 star. There is a rat infestation, black mold, rats falling from the ceilings, teachers crying because HISD is making them into slide readers. I see many fights.. some kid chucked a metal lunchbox at a poor teachers face. Mr. Espinoza told them to not press charges because that would look bad on their school. Some kids got into a fist fight because someone looked at someone. Parents, do your research, my parents didn't and now I suffer. There is so much homework, locker rooms have decaying rats. Wish I didn't go here. If I could give zero stars, I would. Communication from the administration is inconsistent, and concerns from students and parents don't seem to be taken seriously. The environment feels disorganized, and policies are enforced unevenly. Some teachers clearly care, but overall the school culture needs major improvement. Students deserve better support, structure, and accountability than what's currently being provided. read more

As an 8th Grader getting ready to leave and move on with my life. PLEASE do not send your kid here. It looks like a very 'High Rated School' on the outside but just trust me when I say there are better options for your child. There is black mold growing from a lot of classroom, frequent rat infestations and roaches. Kids on the daily are either having sex, vaping or doing drugs which you will hear about and staff seems oblivious. Many of the decent teachers have already quit and just this year alone we have had 5 different algebra teachers and this year about 15 or more teachers have been replaced constantly. Admin and staff is very ignorant and rude, often making fun of kids and yelling at them over very mediocre things. Teachers aren't any better your kid will most likely not learn shit from this school like I have unless you have good teachers. Favoritism is HEAVY at this school, alot of the bad kids are favored by admin and almost never recive reprocutions for there actions Mr. Hill (Debate), Mr. Swann (Choir), Mrs. U (Karate) and Mr. Coyoy (Math) are people I think would be able to teach your child alot like they taught me but everyone else.... Pretty cool school there are many challenging fun classes here such as tech class Spanish class and band Etc. There are many opprutintys at this school because of the staff and education here. You should go here if you want to become a educated/displicined individual something to be aware of is the fights there are many of them in the school atleast 1 every month or so and most of the time they are violent big fights but overall the school is pretty good because of the learning experience. 7/10 read more

Looked into this school because of its "academic" ratings, but very disappointed with the administration and how they run this school. From the very rude and incompetent front office staff, to the vice principals/principal who have their favorites and do not punish the kids that they should. The ladies in the front office, including Ms. Bonilla, need training on how to speak to parents and students respectfully and not roll their eyes or sigh when someone comes in. They are very rude to students, even those just asking where they need to drop off an excuse absence. I witnessed it myself several times. And they are rude to parents as well. The Hispanic lady with thinning hair was annoyed that I interrupted whatever she was looking at on her cell phone when I walked in one day to pick up my student. Then there's the crazy male teacher with the mega phone that stands outside and screams to students to go home every day after school. Apparently they scream at students during their lunch with the mega phone as well. There were lots of food fights and instead of Mr. Graham punishing the ones who started the food fights, would punish the entire cafeteria, even the ones who had nothing to do with it. So the bad kids just kept doing it over and over. Of course, since they knew they weren't going to get punished anyway. My friend's daughter got pushed down the stairs by a cheerleader who then laughed at her. Mother reported it, the principal never did anything about it. That girl was never punished. There were other incidents as well that I heard from other mothers. Principal and Vice Principals never did anything about it. They just brushed it under the rug. And this principal got some kind of award last year. If they only knew all that he actually does, which is nothing! They are also "strict" with dress code but only whichever rules they liked I guess. If they had sweatshirts or sweaters that did not have "Lanier" logo on it, they would take them away since it was a rule that all must wear Lanier tops. Another rule was "skirts no shorter than 2 inches above the knee." Well that one seemed to be ok with the administrators to not be strict on because every single day I would see girls with skirts that barely covered their behind and were not punished. So they were only strict with whatever was convenient to them I guess. And watch out for crazy teacher Ms. Blossom who is as rude as they come. She is rude to every student, whether they are good students or not. Treats them all like they are in juvenile detention. There a few teachers here and there that my student said were nice and good teachers, but overall my student HATED the experience here. Much happier at the new school this year. Place sucks. Went here and I saw fights nearly every day, one of which included a kid and a lunch lady. Too many kids in a small place. Everyone is super racist and I hear the hard r every few minutes in the hallways. Passing period is super short (only 5 minutes) so I was late every period after lunch. "You'll have time to go to the bathroom and your locker", a claim they always make, is entirely incorrect. I barely have time to go around the school, how am I supposed to go up 3 floors, go to the bathroom, AND go to my locker as well in that short time period? Most teachers aren't horrible, but some are. There's an outdated rule called "one-way hallways" which requires kids to only go counterclockwise in the hallways. Not only was this rule outdated and made during COVID for social distancing, it causes many people to be late to class. Imagine having a locker right next to your class but it's further down so you have to go around the school TWICE. Kids have attempted to convince staff to remove this rule but to no avail. There was a period last year (roughly 6 months) that the boys bathroom on every floor didn't have paper towels or soap. There is piss on the ground and the stall doors are broken in most places. Some kids were stupid during lunch and threw a bunch of stuff (only ~4 kids) so the entirety of B-lunch is in "assigned seating". Basically they have numbered tables 1-17 and they only open 1 table at a time until every seat is filled up. Every lunch is spent listening to someone scream into a microphone at full volume. Checked on my Apple Watch and it usually is around 100 decibels. Repeated amounts of decibels that high can cause hearing loss. Me and my friends counted the average time spent between screams from the microphone and it's about 5 seconds. And no, it's not anything important. All they say is "SIT DOWN" or call the students "weird" and that we don't know what odd numbers are. In conclusion, pretty bad school. Essentially the Lamar of middle schools. Lanier MS does not live up to anyone's low expectations. A lot of the teachers are questionable as well as the substitutes. Not only did a substitute use slurs, say a student looked like Jeffrey Dahmer, but she also locked the kids in a room trashing them and yelling at them for doing nothing wrong. The amount of gas leaks in the school is insane even though their claim to fame is being one of the top HISD middle schools. In a classroom where students were concerned about a gas leak the substitute told them to come back to him when someone passes out. When a teacher came in they were told "it's a safe gas leak so don't worry." A safe gas leak? Maybe just don't have gas leaks. The administration is overly harsh and punishes kids for the silliest things. When kids act out the administration just yells which doesn't fix the problem. Also so many of the students have unacceptable behavior such as fights, threats of rape, threats of shooting, and kids being "jumped" after school. After being suspended twice before a student who was reported by multiple people for threats of rape and school shooting was suspended a third time, then almost put back in a classroom with the people he threatened. Students were told to get over it and forgive him. The teachers are also boring and teach kids with no creativity whatsoever. Administration has been much more favorable to white students. The school just put tampons in the locker rooms, the bathrooms were being torn apart by kids, and they still haven't opened one of the patios because it was a safety hazard. The school isn't even that good for disabled kids as there is only one ramp in the back of the school and the elevators don't even work sometimes. Dogs are "absolutely not allowed on campus no matter what." So even if you have a service dog they are not allowed on campus. Mold is also an issue on campus as the classrooms are filled with it. The black mold throughout the ventilation system is never fully treated and causes student to constantly move classrooms. Once a student even passed out from the mold which is completely unacceptable. Does the school or administration do anything about it? No. There is also a rat problem in the school that I must point out. One of the main problems is that rats are in the vents and walls of the school. A rat once ran through the halls where a teacher had to chase and capture it getting bit in the process. It is unsanitary and a health hazard. Ants and flies are also a major problem because they are in a lot of classrooms and have to be killed by the teachers. The dress code is also a problem because once a student was wearing tights under ripped jeans so they got dress coded meanwhile their friend right next to them was showing more skin by wearing a skirt. The admins are concerned that boys will look at girls ripped jeans which are covering the legs but not boys looking up girls skirts. Are they even aware that students can look up girls skirts while using the stairs? No. They don't even look into the lives of students that much either. The wifi that is made for the school switches on and off so sometimes students cant even complete their online work. The water supply is tainted with lead and has made students sick before. I watched as a student started coughing right after drinking water from the fountains which had been previously closed off and bagged with duct tape. This school is old, the teachers do not care, the students are not being properly taught socially, and the administration is very old fashioned. read more

I am just finishing up my time at Lanier, as you can say I am int the final stretch and I go to highschool next year and I have a lot to say about my 3 years at this school, the building is absolutely disgusting, its old very old, there is horrible smells coming from anywhere in the school, like someone just died. There is mold everywhere in the school, and constant leaks of some type of liquid in the ceiling, the cafeteria food has bugs in it and the the football field isn't even regulated to have home games on it, poison ivy on the fences outside, the education at this school is questionable, coming from a an actual student, all we did in class was the teachers just getting some type of worksheet of Google and just handing to us, day after day after day. and the school building isn't even big enough to house all the students without being cramped in, it feels like your in a little hut oh and I forgot to add the AC doesn't work in 99% of rooms in the school. The school also doesn't have much freedom at all, the only time you can really go outside is during lunch when you eat which is only for 30 mins, like imagine sitting inside all day, how bad would the be for your mental and physical health. What are some positives you may ask, well if your children are artistic they have some decent programs for that, especially Mr Garret, which was my favorite teacher at my three years at this school. Great school. Top tier education though the homework can be a bit much. The courses are on par with other higher programs so don't expect to have much of a social life. In the end it's a school meant to prepare you for higher education and allow earlier entry and better understanding of AP courses in high school. I'd highly recommend it if you are an education oriented person but you will probably be very disappointed if you're into athletics. read more
