Horrible. Went here for Hair and Nail school.
In Nail school, the instructor Jenna Smid, was so busy either talking about her gluten allergy or her boyfriend or playing with her dog that she had no time in the mornings to teach us theory so we had to self teach ourselves. The first thing you learn is how to do a manicure and pedicure and most of the course focuses on that when it should be focused on how to perfect your gel nail application.
If you were Jenna's favourite you barely had to do any work and you would get amazing marks, but if you did something to make her mad or upset - you would see your marks fall to barely passing. Don't worry though, no matter what you did you would get at least a passing mark because they want to just take your money and get you out ASAP.
On top of that, she would bring her little dog to school everyday and sometimes she would clean its butt in the hair sinks!! EWW!!
Hair school was a little different but basically the same...
What you accomplished throughout the day was of your own accord and then when you had a month left in school they would rush you to finish everything.
There was no fine tuning or polishing or getting me ready for an actual salon - I would do my thing and then the instructor would come by and do her thing and that was it. There was no confidence building because the instructor was always there to fix everything.
The two hair instructors were frequently seen huddled by their desk watching videos or posting pictures on Facebook. There was no structure or discipline which is what students in the hair industry need when they're learning.
They accept people with open arms and act like they're your best friend just to get you in the door. After I had begun hair school, the other students were very rude to me. I had told the owner, Donna, and the other instructors and nothing was done. I was continuously bullied because I didn't have a rude bitch attitude and was more like the shy girl next door.
There was no accommodations made for my learning disability - I required a little extra time on my tests and my final exams and potentially a couple extra weeks to refine and concrete my education. Nothing.
Again, if you brown nosed the owner and instructors your marks were magically in the 90's, but if you were a normal student who didn't brown nose your marks would be mid 70's, but no matter what you would still get marks because they wanted your money and you out ASAP for the next person to come in.
There was a contest at the end of my schooling for the most likes and shares on a Facebook video of you colouring a clients hair - when I pointed out that the other girls were cheating by sharing their own video multiple times - I was told it would go based off of likes. At the end of the contest, it went off of shares only. When I stood up and said this was unfair, I was told not to come to the Christmas potluck dinner and I was charged $1000+ to finish my last two weeks of education.
Do NOT go here for school! read more
