Everything is so pretty/elegant/stylish/quirky/or just plain useful that, if you are ever stuck for a gift for someone who already has everything (like most of us), here you'll find something for them. They have the most beautiful greeting cards, scandi-inspired home wear, candles (not the tacky ones), mugs and decoration, maps, quirky wrapping paper, books....the list is long. Go check them out, browse their little shop and if you do, make sure to look up as the ceiling in there in beautiful as well.

This place tried to charge me 7 euro for the most boring of door stops. And they almost got away…read morewith it. I walked into this shop hoping to buy a nice tea cosy, the place is jammers with cool stuff. Things like chopping boards that fold up for easy scooping into a pot, and spatulas with a bump to keep the spatula head off the kitchen table and thus keeping the table clean. These are really good ideas, and you look at the prices and think that they're expensive, but maybe they're good value... Anyway, after a few hours of unsuccessful search, I pull a member of their staff away from her Facebook to ask where Tea Cosies can be found. They have a lot of tea cosies, it has to be said, I spent a good 20 minutes deciding between the cosy shaped like a hen or the bottom up design for €20 In the end, function over fashion, the bottom up design won (see photo). I then remembered I needed a doorstop for the house. I found a bucket'o'doorstops and picked one up, no excitement needed here! At the checkout my bill came to €27, which was €7 for the doorstop. I was like "ok, that's fair", compared to this €20 tea cosy, that seems like the going rate. But thankfully I managed to cop myself on to this absolute ripoff. They are actually trying to charge me €7 for a piece of plastic which does nowt but use friction to resist the door's gravity... So I just went to Dunnes and got one for €0.50 instead!. Anyway, this story only justifies a 2 star location, but they go down to a 1 star shop in my opinion because of their TERRIBLE hours. Stock closes at 5:30, and is closed all Sunday. Suddenly I understand why their prices have to be so high.

Roughly 25 euro so not cheap but not too expensive either. There were tons of cute items all over the store and I'd recommend this to anyone who is looking for pieces made by local artists. I've long been surprised that more niche businesses haven't followed the spate of indie cafes and restaurants into the area. Well here is one of the first. A small but perfectly formed gem featuring unique art, really really gorgeous gift wear, vintage clothing for men and women, and lots of other knick-knacks. Two things stood out to me here more than anything - 1. You can tell that each and every item in the shop has been carefully considered and individually picked. There isn't an overload of stuff to trawl through - each piece is meticulously styled and merchandised beautifully. Though it may not be to your taste, the quality is most certainly there, and there is a myriad of styles, so the next item may very well be right up your alley 2. The clothes are priced incredibly well - a lot cheaper than most vintage shops in town, which I have to say I was really surprised about in such a small shop Delighted Lyon Loring has opened up - I really hope they do well, and I'll absolutely be calling in regularly from now on!

Maybe I'm just sensitive to it but it was pleasant! I had a little wander around, checking out all the little gifts and trinkets. I was approached by a lovely guy with a huge smile, asking if I needed any help, I didn't. I spent about 30 minutes pottering around and it was lovely. I have my eye on a couple of things that I want now so I shall be making another trip out soon!

Inside... well it pretty much lived up to the promise, but with a few omissions. Souk does stock lovely and unconventional bits and pieces: couscouseries, enameled platters and Afghan rugs. But there's also a bit of the discount shop lurking here as well, with cheap-o plastic serving bowls, tatty rubber doilies and a whole mass of over-bright plastic toys. But as I often find with places like this, it all adds to the charm.

It's the kind of shop you need to know about to find, and that's exactly what Yelp is for! This one-of-a-kind shop boasts a nice selection of colourful designer wear, hand-made accessories and very cool children clothes, toys and prints. If there's one place to go for Christmas gifts, that is, if you want something unique and creative for a reasonable price, Mayfly would be a sure bet. I covered pressies for all the little ones in the family and picked up a cool pin for myself (cause you always need to treat yourself a little after a day of shopping presents for others). You can easily loose track of time in here as there are interesting items in every corner. Finding this shop was the best part of my day. Check it out, it's definitely worth a visit. There's tons of options for cheap clothing these days, but every once in awhile I stop and think why is that shirt so cheap? The answer sadly is more probably than not that some unsavoury labour practices were undertaken. Mayfly solves this dilemma: it's fair trade, the clothes are funky and cool and they're relatively cheap for the material you're getting. If you check in the shop they also offer classes on jewellery making and felt work amongst others and will hold private events showing how to do such things as make an old outfit look new and other great things. They also trade in the People's Park in Dun Laoghaire on Sundays.
