I was able to meet Ryan early on in the process, he is truly a wonderful man - family man and business owner. The finishes were pre-planned with the model home we chose, love the details - granite countertops, rounded corners, high ceilings, crown molding, recessed lighting, under the cabinet lighting in the kitchen, and the list goes on. :) We did up grade the flooring - hardwood throughout, tankless water heater and gas range! Everything came together fabulously! I was so excited when we did the walk through to find that Ryan heard me in our brief conversation, when I said I prefer gray tones over brown! My walls are grayish white and the granite has more gray tones than brown!! It was like I picked it myself :) VC Custom Homes is incredible, if you are looking to buy one of their models or build a custom home the construction is top notch - the sub-contractors do a fantastic job. Geoff, the on-site Forman is absolutely amazing, his eye for detail and knowledge of construction is impressive! As with any new construction, we have had a few minor issues - a small blemish on the master shower wall, sub contractor came out last week and it is like is was never there - one of our deadbolts did not lock properly, Geoff came over immediately and replaced it with a temporary lock- the sub contractor came out within a few days to replace it. All of this could not be possible without the fabulous, wonderful customer care - Kim and Shannon in the office! I have spoken to Kim several times she is super sweet and helpful! She has gone above and beyond for me, helping me get these minor issues repaired. Overall, if you want to have a fabulous home building experience VC Custom Homes is it! They are everything you want and they do it with construction knowledge and customer care! I love my new home!!!

We initially chose Rick at Carolina Mountain Grading because he answered emails and messages…read morepromptly and was very courteous during our initial meeting at the site. We told him upfront that we were new to building a home and had never done this before, so we admit we were quite naïve about the process. He appeared genuine and we felt we could trust him. He gave us a quote, which left out a lot of details. I contacted him to get more information, such as what was covered in broad categories such as cutting in a driveway. Over the next few weeks, several things came up that he charged us extra for supplies such as gravel, although he clearly stated in an email that gravel was already included in the price. Each week, more charges were added without any forewarning. They would just show up on the invoice. He was not able to provide any receipts to show the number of trips to the dump, yet he claimed it took 21 trips to the dump to clear a 1/3 acre lot! When I tried to discuss this, he simply would not discuss it. As we were in the middle of the process of getting the lot cleared, we did not want to fire him and hire someone else, so we tried to continue to work with him. Long story made short - his final bill came to over 3 times the original estimate! Considering the tremendous increase in the final bill, it took a week or so to transfer funds from various accounts to get him paid. I explained this to him and he seemed Ok with this, but he continued to send us electronic invoices every single day stating that the account was overdue even though we were making payments to him every couple of days. Clearly, we were trying to get him paid! So, he finished the tasks and we are hoping to move ahead with the building of our house. Final straw, the drilling company and home construction project manager called me today to explain that the silt fence was not installed properly and someone has to redo that. It was simply staked in the ground. I called Rick to discuss this with him. He said he never heard that a silt fence needs to be inserted into a trench in the ground and backfilled to work properly. He flat-out refused to do anything about it, even though we paid him to install a silt fence. He got very angry with me and told me the conversation was over and hung up on me! He was shouting so loud that my husband in the other room could hear his voice over the phone. This guy comes off as being very polite, but honestly - don't trust him unless you have everything down to the minute detail related to costs. We paid him an exorbitant amount of money to clear a 1/3 acre lot and he can't even fix a silt fence? He certainly does not stand behind his work.

From start to finish, Genny was kind, helpful, and truly cared about making sure we were happy with our carpet purchase. She made the entire process easy and stress-free. These guys are absolutely brilliant! As DJ said when he came out to give me a quote, they may not…read morebe the cheapest, they definitely won't be the most expensive but they will do the job right. And they did. DJ came out that day and took all sorts of measurements, and made calculations, regarding the grading that would need to be done (our yard slopes) and I had the estimate within 24 hours. From then on, as we arranged the date they'd come out, DJ kept me in the loop. I'd had a quote from another company and yes, it was less than theirs, but the person didn't even come out to look at my yard or anything. This company is very professional, very efficient and the team they bring gets on and does what they do, so well. I actually watched them some of the time and they were amazing! If you are needing a concrete driveway then I'd definitely say "go with these guys!". They'll do an excellent job, proficiently, on time and keep you in the loop the whole time!

Following a recommendation from another locksmith, who wasn't available at the time, I called Fred's Lockwork. He answered the phone quickly and was very familiar with our location. He was there in 45 minutes. He had the door open in just a few minutes and made 2 keys on the spot. I hope I never need a locksmith again, but if I do, he will be my first call.
