I had to pay upfront my $21. They did a GREAT job painting my nails and toenails. I think for me, I am not sure if I TRULY trust their equipment. I didn't get a fungus so I guess they clean and sanitize the tools. But the place still made me weary. The mani and pedi school is a couple doors down. The main location is for the barbering. They do NOT answer the phone. The price is great. You are in a HUGE room getting service. They did a great job because my nail polish lasted and still lasting after a month with my pedicure. I also brought my own nail polish - which I do because i have a certain color I love that a lot of salons do not have. Shout out to Essie Mint Candy Apple. Will I go back? Possibly.

Okay - I took a gamble going here and it did NOT disappoint. I think it might be my new go to spot…read moresince my usual stylist retired. When you walk in, everyone is so excited & just happy to be there. Ok, ok - yes it's a school but it's so legit! I had my hair cut by Shubashini (Lakshmi?). First of all - what a total sweetheart chasing her dreams. She provided the kind of experience that would gain her loyalists for her services. So excited for her! I would pay for just the hair wash cuz that head massage that came with it was phenomenal. Low-key still dreaming of it. She spend adequate time understanding the look I was going for (a LOB) and she gave suggestions based on hair type. I have fine hair so she gave me a long layer to add body. She took her time and cared about getting you a quality cut. After, the cut is checked by a teacher there and you're styled off with a blowout and out you go! Affordable. Ample parking. Excited stylists. Quality experience and somewhere I'd recommend to my friends. Definitely bringing my mom in. For salon services: only available on Thursday & Friday.

My experience at this school was very mixed. I want to start by recognizing the instructors because…read morethey truly made a positive impact on my education. Ms. Silva and Ms. Brooke were amazing teachers who clearly care about their students and love what they do. They created a supportive learning environment and taught us a lot during my time there. I would also like to acknowledge Mr. Alex, who always had great energy and was very helpful. Ms. Danni at the front desk was also always kind and welcoming to students. Unfortunately, my experience with the administration caused me a lot of stress throughout my time at the school. My interactions with the financial aid advisor, Danielle, were often negative and discouraging. There were times when I was struggling financially and trying to communicate honestly about my situation. Instead of feeling supported, I felt like there was little understanding or compassion. For example, when I first enrolled and mentioned that I needed to discuss the monthly payments with my mom because of how expensive it was, I was told by Danielle "this school might not be for you." That comment was very discouraging and set the tone for many of my experiences moving forward. At one point, I was not allowed to attend school for over a week and a couple of days due to a payment issue, even though I had already communicated with danielle the exact date that I would be making my payment. When I did pay, it was nearly about $1,500, but I had already lost valuable time and hours. This situation was very frustrating because students are charged $20 per hour for any time beyond their contracted completion date. Being prevented from attending school caused me to fall behind, and now I am expected to pay for overtime hours that resulted from a situation where I was not allowed to attend, even though I wanted to be there. There was also a time shortly after making that payment when the traffic light at Nordhoff and Tampa was out, causing heavy traffic in the area. This was something that had already been communicated to the school by multiple students. Because of this delay, I arrived late and was sent home, which was extremely frustrating after paying such a large amount to return to school. Additionally, I was once sent home by Ms. Melissa, the night instructor, for not having my book with me. What made the situation more frustrating was that she waited until the end of the lesson to send me home. During that same situation, she claimed that I was falling asleep in class, which was not true. I emailed Jill and asked if the cameras could be reviewed to verify this. I was told the situation would be looked into and that I would receive a response, but I never heard back. Overall, these experiences caused a lot of unnecessary stress and made me feel unsupported during my time at the school. I truly appreciate the instructors who work hard and care about their students, but unfortunately my experience with the administration overshadowed those positives. Because of this, I would not recommend this school.

I arranged childcare and missed work for this appointment. When I arrived, the front desk staff (not the person who booked me) realized there had been no communication about needing to wash and blow-dry my hair before braiding. I explained that Nancy had never informed me of this, and thankfully the front desk kindly honored the original quoted price. After my hair was washed and blow-dried by Christina, we were about to start braiding when Nancy stormed in and abruptly demanded that the service stop until I paid extra for the wash and blow dry. She was loud, rude, and dismissive -- even putting her hand in my face when I tried to explain the miscommunication. She told me not to speak because she was "talking to her student, not me." She then touched my hair and began making discriminatory comments about its length and thickness, saying that it would "cost more" but refusing to give me an exact price. Instead of resolving the issue, she escalated it, argued, and ultimately instructed the student to stop the service entirely. When I asked for her supervisor, she claimed she was the boss and the supervisor, blocking any accountability -- until I insisted and was finally able to speak to the actual administrator, who was kind and understanding. This unnecessary conflict wasted 25 minutes of my appointment, leaving the students pressed for time and forcing my service to be cut down to 2 braids instead of the 4 I had booked. I want to be clear: the students and instructors were professional, kind, and compassionate throughout this. The only problem was Nancy Lopez. Her behavior was unprofessional, hostile, and completely unacceptable in an educational or customer-facing environment. I will be reporting her to the board for her conduct. If you book services here, please know the students are talented and respectful, but the administration -- at least under Nancy Lopez -- is another story.

My daughter went here for a few months and our experience was awful. The esthetics teacher at the…read moretime was Mrs. Corona who unfortunately couldn't speak English correctly. She couldn't explain things well or use the correct terminology of the things they were supposed to learn. But the worse is that she wouldn't even really try to teach. She would often tell the girls she was about to retire anyway (which she did halfway through the course) so she didn't really care. Day after day my daughter came home and told me the teacher had spent several hours talking about herself and her life, her personal problems, plans for the future etc. This was during Covid and my daughter also said the teacher would not wear a mask and would sneeze and cough without even covering her mouth at all. Who even does that, Covid or not? My daughter also brought to my attention the school wasn't very clean, the classroom used for esthetics was a small room where also they had to take clients in for treatments because they didn't have a separate place. It often got used as a break room by the students so it would smell of food as well. Another issue that kept coming up was that Mrs. Corona spent most of the class time, literally hours on end talking about her personal life and going on long breaks. The students didn't know what to do. They had no daily schedule to follow. The classes were not structured at all in any way shape of form. Mrs Corona would go on hour to hour and a half lunches cutting into the students learning/class time. Apparently she felt she was entitled to long lunches because she was diabetic. At least that was what she told my daughter when she asked why they never observed a 30 minute lunch like they were supposed to. One day the students were told the State Board was coming that week and they needed to prepare for it. WTH? Mrs Corona pretended for that day only that the students were actually being taught lessons. For that day only she printed out a schedule and a fake lesson plan and posted it to the wall. She also told the students to take a 30 minute lunch only that day while the State Board was there. My daughter came home and told me she couldn't believe all the lies. It got so bad the students had taken it upon themselves to teach each other since the teacher was physically present (so she could get her paycheck) but unwilling to actually teach. And god forbid you asked her a question about aesthetics or skin and interrupted her story about her house or her grandkids. She would berate you for it. We couldn't take it anymore. We had spend thousands paying this school for my daughter's education, which she wasn't receiving. So I felt like I had no option but to make an appointment to see Mrs Avina, the owner of the school. My daughter and I came in person and I told her everything that was going on. Her words to me were "I know I know". So after that appointment I saw that Mrs Avina was aware of all that was going on but chose to take no action. She kept on gladly accepting new student enrollments and receiving funds from the state of California as well, as they are a school that offers financial aid. MRS. Avina gave me excuses and said "good instructors are expensive", basically admitting that she has hired someone who doesn't know how to teach and doesn't even care to teach the students. Just so she could continue to collect the tuition money. This is BLATANT FRAUD. So I chose to withdraw my daughter from this school and enroll her elsewhere where she had to start from scratch since she had not been taught anything at this place. Other observations: other students that have gone here have also said the teachers don't teach and that the school is dirty. Be careful though, some of the positive reviews for this school are not real and some of bad reviews have been deleted. This school didn't even have a dedicated laundry room or a freaking autoclave to disinfect the tools used on students and clients faces. That is disgusting and I'm pretty sure against health code. If you are considering this school for yourself or a loved one thank God you came across my review first. Don't go there. This ia a pathetic excuse for a school. Tour other schools in the area. They may cost more money but you pay for what you get.

I had very reasonable expectations going into Monarch for a haircut/bleach and tone. I've gone to beauty schools for services before, and understand the nature of it as well as the risks. But I've never left one completely dissatisfied. Here's the thing, though- The student did maybe 10% of my cut. The instructor did the remaining 90% And not only did she ignore what I asked for, she botched what she gave me. The photo I showed her is far from the cut I received. It is SO much shorter, the layers are very rough, blunt, and uneven, and the shortest layer is literally unstylable. I explained that I needed enough length to curl daily. I was far more after a little volume and hair health than a full on transformative haircut. If the student had done this, though I'd obviously still be upset about the outcome, I feel it'd have been excusable, and would have understood. I wouldn't be writing this review. But there is no reason whatsoever that a licensed cosmetology instructor should have been so very careless in this situation. I felt there was zero caution exercised, and it was just immediate chopping off major length, no work up to it. So it was too late pretty much instantly. And even the student was visibly jarred upon watching. I voiced that she cut it way too short, and she told me that she left far more length than my photo showed, which frankly felt insulting because it just simply isn't true and anyone with eyes could see that. Not to mention that later on in the appt when her student asked her how much longer she should leave my bleach in after checking me, she didn't even look and said "her hair will tell you." I understand the sentiment, but that's not teaching. That's a disservice to her students whom are paying top dollar to be there. I'm not going to name the student, as she did a very good job on my bleach/tone, and I don't want her name to be associated with a 1-star review. The instructors name was Mrs. Ramirez, who I've come to understand is head cosmotology instructor. It's very unfortunate, because now I'm in a tough spot trying to find a stylist whom can install extensions ASAP as I cannot go to work like this. So I'm going to be out several hundreds of dollars, and several hours of my day (which I have to take off work for) I'm not sure how the other instructors operate, so I can't say to stay away from this place entirely, but I would definitely discourage having Mrs. Ramirez oversee/participate in your services. Her approach is far too lackadasical.
