We trusted him and his advice and it was the worst thing we could have ever done and now my 1st time offender son sits in jail with more jail time than others who have done far worse AND we are out a big chunk of money. Zero gonads and speaks to the judge like he is about to bear his testimony instead of defending his client. It is doubtful that he has ever been to trial for these types of cases, though he claims to represent this type of law. I could not be more disappointed with his service. Super nice guy and would make a wonderful Grandfather or someone to play golf with but don't hire him as your attorney and let him take your hard earned money. Laurie cared more about my son's ex-wife than she did about helping my son. She told him not to make his ex mad. She told him he should just give his ex everything she wanted to keep the peace. She told him not to make his ex mad and he only discovered she hadn't filed the response he approved because after he made his ex mad she compiled a new one giving literally everything to his ex, including their 18 month old son. He told her she was NOT, under any circumstance, to submit that response and she should submit the one he approved, 2 weeks earlier. I guess because the deadline to respond was that day she decided to ignore his instructions and filed it anyway. She said she was going to get him "liberal visitation" but my son went 3 months without seeing his son because she did nothing, even after many, many phone calls asking when he could see his son. She told him he was not to call his ex under any circumstances. Thankfully, he found and hired a MUCH better lawyer who was able to fix some of the damage she caused. Johnston was going to charge me a $2,000 retainer to do the name change for me. I happened to have a grand in cash on me so I asked the paralegal if I could pay the grand no and the remainder in 2 weeks when I got paid since i knew the process was going to be lengthy they could atleast start the paperwork or something and then I'd pay the remainder. Just before I went to pay the remainder thousand I called to let them know and that's when they informed me they weren't starting anything until the full $2.000 was paid if I didn't like that I could have a refund. So a couple days later as promised I went to pay the remaining $1,000 but I had a change of heart. I didn't want to work with someone who was too good to start working for $1,000 considering the cost to do the change on my own is around $200 I don't think $1,000 payment is not worthy of the most minimal effort/time. They kept doubling down on they didn't agree to work for less than $2,000 like it just wasn't worth their time. Not a problem. I'll find an attorney who values the customer over the almighty dollar and what they FEEL they're worth. Oh then they tried to charge me $30 for the 1 minute phone call where he told he wasn't lifting a finger until the full $2,000 is paid citing some retainer agreement that I never signed.
