My family spent the remainder if the trip trying to find waffles that lived up to this one. Light and fluffy and crisp on the outside. As of November, 2018 the place has been open for two years. The energetic and kind host welcomed us in, and we sat at a pleasant two-top with a view of the boulevard and passers-by. Eggs Benedict was listed as a house specialty, so we gave it a try. At €9, it was a little small (only half the size of a typical Benedict. More aptly named "Egg Benedict," it comes with just one egg, a single strip of bacon, and perfectly sauteed spinach on a single hearty piece of toast) - but the flavors were excellent. Instead of the usual hollandaise used in the US, which I find a bit bland, Bodega's serves a richer bechamel. This worked wonderfully. We also shared a €7.50 Greek yogurt and granola. Note that granola in Europe means a slightly different cereal- more like what we call muesli. Toasted and nicely flavored rolled oats with nuts and a bit of dried fruit, but without the clusters we typically see. It's quite tasty and similar to granola, but less crunchy. Good value. Coffee was typical European excellent. We had cafe con leche (coffee with milk). One of those will wake you right up. Total cost was €22. Not much more than we'd pay at a cafe at home, but far higher quality. Four stars; a great score by my standard.

Coming early was best as the restaurant fills up quickly. We had wonderful Belgian dark beer, Westmalle, which is so rich in flavor and body. For my meal I chose a well known dish from Ghent, the Waterzooi. It is a fish stew, thus coming with large chunks of salmon and white fish, sea bass. There's a variety of vegetables included, carrots, leeks, onion, celery, etc. The light white broth soup is outstanding in itself, similar to a chowder. There's a scoop of mashed potatoes on top to the side. This was probably one of the best dishes I have eaten in Belgium, and this place is well known for it. Hearty bread came with tbe meal, many types here are made with beer. The quality of the bread is so amazing. I have found here that the quality and freshness of ingredients far surpasses what we get in the US. Tomatoes smell like tomatoes should, bread tastes very fresh. Nothing is overengineered or processend processed. Finished the meal with a dessert, the Dame Blanche, vanilla ice cream with the most incredibly rich warmed chocolate you pour over the top. That with a coffee, always server on a smal tray with milk, sugar and a biscuit made for a perfect meal. The service is very friendly yet also extremely professional. Just three people, but they obviously know what they are doing and how to run a restaurant. This place is a must!

I came there because I wanted to try ostrich, but that wasn't available so I went with the kangaroo. Kangaroo meat is tough - I want to be clear, the food tasted good, the sauce was good, and it was perfect with red wine. But it is tough! But I enjoyed my experience there and the service was really nice.
