The cheese platter we got for dessert was pretty good quality but it just looked a bit like what you might get served in an airplane with 3 sad grapes. Wassenaar is one rich town but you'll find that people from all over the region visit the park. It's beautiful year round. When we were there there was a live feed of hatching owls in the attic above the visitor center. We visited right after a heavy rain, but it was no issue as the sandy soils of the dunes drain the water super fast. No mud or puddles. We had drinks and pancakes in the restaurant. The restaurant is very comfortable and good size with indoor (including fireplace) and outdoor seating. If you didn't know it was there, you would definitely miss it. Plus, you would never think a joint in a subway station complex is any good, but this is a real hidden gem. Suriname is a former Dutch colony in South America. Consequently, there are a number of Surinamese restaurants in Amsterdam, but this takeout stands OUT. The overhead menu sign is all in Dutch, and so are the few items marked in the butcher/bakery-like display counters. Most dishes are not identified. I had no idea what to get so friends did the ordering. After we ordered I noticed a QR-code for the English menu. Whatever I ate, and we had at least 6 dishes, they were hearty, spicy and bursting with flavor. You probably can't go wrong trying several items. Don't forget shrimp chips. If you aren't doing takeout, there are a few cafeteria tables to sit and eat. Don't miss this place!
